There were several movie versions of Dune one in the ‘80s one in the ‘90s and one in the ‘20s.
Each one shows a different and unique perspective on the book, tuned to the times in which it was made.

I really liked the OG and the movies. It's a tough call, but i picked the movies.
Why did you enjoy the latest movies? What did you enjoy about them more than the others?
So in the OG it does a lot of exposition throughout the movie, and then towards the end they sort of gloss over stuff at the end that was in the book. It was still really good.
In the movies I like that it was slowed down because it was two movies. I loved how they leaned into the religious aspect of the story and the cinematography was fantastic. The music was great also, I'm a big Hanz Zimmer fan.
Hans Zimmer was the first movie composer name I learned to recognize.
Never cared about credits, but sometimes the music was so banger I'd be like who is this??

I don't think the music in Dune is the most memorable compared to some other scores, but this is not meant as a criticism.
The music works in Dune. I say "work" here not merely as in "fits" but as in it had a straight up job and it involved some heavy lifting and it broke a sweat and got it done and should probably get a raise and a promotion.
I liked it since I identified it in Interstellar and Inception. When the music seems special, I always look to see the composer, even if I have to wait through a whole lot of scrolling credits.
I’ve got to agree on the Hans Zimmer music!! They couldn’t have gotten anyone better for the movies, being that the books are so famous and well liked. I think they were all good, each from a different perspective. Different writers (adapters) and different directors.
I gotta watch them now. I didn't think they were so popular.
The latest pair were very popular in the theaters. Many of us saw them more than once on the big screen. BTW, the big screen is the best way to see them.
You know I'm from India and we only occassionally watch hollywood movies. However I've seen the promos for Dune on OTTs here. I'll watch them today or tomorrow.

Th newer ones are some of my favorite newer movies. I really liked them a lot.
I haven’t seen any other new ones at the theater, but these. I think that these are best seen with a huge screen, not the little digital screens.

They took out all the nonsense scenes, and made the movie many times better.

Even though the scifi channel was a low budget endeavor, l like this one because l watched it when it came out on the tv.

They made a whole series out of it.
James McAvoy was perfect for the Leto role.
The guy they had for Paul Atreides was also fit for the part.

I am a sucker for great scenery. That's why I love Lord of the Rings so much. A deep story, but man, the big scenes on screen with monumental buildings, incredible nature... I'm a sucker for that.
Thanks to modern CGI we can create monumental scenes. If the story is also deep and well written, like in the case of Dune, I go for the modern versions.
You can certainly say that the vistas are wide in these movies. I don’t know it it is all CGI or on-site, looked to me like a lot of it was on-location. Deserts are tough places to be for things like movies.
Agreed, maybe we shouldn't call it CGI, but maybe CGI enhanced locations?

I love them all but Villeneuve’s is so epic and beautifully shot. I prefer the beautiful cinematography over accuracy to the books
I can understand that. After all, movies are for the eyes and tell you all that is happening by visual cues. If you are a Dune fan, sometimes the inaccuracies get in the way of enjoying the movie you have in front of you.
I definitely understand that. I enjoyed the books but they’re not one of my favorite series. If it is a series I really really like, inaccuracies are hard to watch

Denis Villeneuve's Dune is evolution pure and simple. It's how you build something awesome from an awesome book. I do really like the 80s version but since I have to put sats in it, that's my answer.
Is it accurate? No, it's not.
Do I care? No, because Denis didn't destroy the esence of Arrakis and the characters were beautifully composed in the movie. Yes, it's not like the book[1] however, the artwork worth those little arrangements.

My take on comparing books to movies is that a movie will never do justice to the book. It cannot because they are two different media. A book is only limited by the imagination of the reader, whereas a movie must make everything visually knowable. I have liked all versions, so far. They are each focused differently, though.
What is 4/6 saga?
My bad. Frank wrote initially three books; Dune, Messiah and Children of Dune. Then three more: God Emperor, Heretics of Dune and finally Chapterhouse. Right now, I'm reading 4/6 intial saga which is God Emperor. Worth it.

If you are a Science Fiction fan you may want to see them all! I think it is better if you read the novel first, though. The novel is so good they have made three movies of it.

Yes, that was my feeling about the three movies. Different budgets, different times and different technology created much different movies, All of them had notable actors and actresses in them, all were good and all had different foci. I still liked them all.
