Hi everyone!
We're building https://gift.cash - gift card infrastructure solution for the Legends of Lightning Tournament and I'd like to share here some details. I'd love to hear your thoughts, feedback and suggestions.
What is the problem we're trying to solve?
  • Many companies offer rewards to incentivize user behavior and engagement. E.g. Sign up for mailing lists, completing surveys, etc.
  • The rewards are usually in the form of Amazon US Gift Cards, VISA prepaid cards, Paypal Credits. Those gift cards might not be usable to some users (e.g. only valid in US). There are marketplaces that users sell gift cards with a discount in exchange for bitcoin.
  • There's currently no way for a non-technical person to give sats in batches to incentivize a user behavior.
  • Furthermore it's complicated to give BTC to a no-coiner.
How are we going to solve the problem?
  • We'll make it simple for a non-technical person/company to give bitcoin gift cards to their users, even if the user is a no-coiner.
  • A web app which a user may paste a list of emails, and in a click, create and send gift cards to all recipients; create and track gift card campaigns;
  • For technical users, we will offer an API integration.
  • A simple interface where anyone can redeem gift cards using LNURLw, learn about bitcoin and self-custody.
About us
I (Porto) and Gustavo are builders, we do UX, backend, frontend, deploy, etc. We have a profitable bootstrapped SaaS B2B startup and we're super excited to join the Bitcoin builders club ๐Ÿ™‚
Wanna join us?
We're looking for someone to help us with Business Development. Our goal is to provide our solution to companies that offer (or should offer!) gift cards.
We want you to help us sell our solution to these businesses and help us learn from their needs.
If you're interested, DM me on twitter @guiporto or email me: join [at] gift [dot] cash
I think your idea is great. I'll send you a DM to assist a LittleBit with the sales ;)

Gift cards are great. I work with many companies that give them to their employees as a non taxable bonus. Offering it as a Bitcoin gift card is more versatile and will expose more people to the wonderful lighting network.

Are you sure is valuable to add the "gift card" concept to the project communication?
Gift card are usable only at a specific store, you can use Bitcoin everywhere it is accepted.
In the Bitcoin ecosystem gift cards are used as a proxy to spend BTC where it is not accepted, instead I suppose you aim to give BTC to people so they can use them directly.
Someone could misunderstand the project real value... :)

Great feedback, thanks! Yes we'll give BTC so people can use them directly, and we'll incentivize self-custody.
Our goal is to make companies like swagbucks.com offer BTC payouts instead of Amazon US gift cards/Paypal. We think these companies' backend are integrated with APIs to generate these gift cards. We picked "gift cards" as a wording on our solution as we think it would make it easier to sell the idea to companies like Swagbucks.
But after posting and seeing quite a few misunderstanding, we'll certain re-think on the wording.
TBH, we're engineers, terrible with copy and english is not our native language, so it's been quite a ride :)

gift cards are shitcoins
CHANGE MY MIND
Are just a way to keep people into fiat world. Gift cards are just another way to fool people into paying in advance for something they don't need. Just use bitcoins damn it. Bitcoin change the whole way we do commerce.
FIAT DELENDA EST.

Did you read the post? Theyโ€™re making it easier to give out bitcoin.

From the post:

Just tell me that those are not shitcoin cards?
There's currently no way for a non-technical person to give sats in batches to incentivize a user behavior.
Wrong. There are many tools already at hand. If they want to do a massive print of LNURL-w, go for it. There are already many tools to do that: LNbits, laisee, lntxbot, lightningtipbot and many more can offer simple ways to print some LNURL-w QR codes. Anybody can do that, easily.
My point is simple: push new users into Bitcoin not into shitcoin gift cards.

Your point of view is clear but you are putting it agains the post, so you didn't read it :)

Love the idea. To cut out some steps on the way to an mvp, you might want to look at the vouchers system in lnbits.
reply
yeah! we love lnbits and we'll build the MVP on top of it

Thanks for posting here @Porto
Listing the problems and solution is helpful.
Can you also list or map out the incumbents in the field and help us understand how Gift.Cash is different, or complimentary to, the existing players?
Good luck !
