pull down to refresh

Sun returned to the village a couple of days ago (we're just below the Arctic circle so we don't get polar night, but there are tall mountains to the south blocking out direct sunlight between mid-Nov and late-January). And what's better to celebrate the return of our wonderful life-giving sun... than to plunge straight into the ocean?!
@Undisciplined may have "Fast February" (#873395). We're going more (less?!) hardcore over here. It was 1.8°C (35.3°F—or what's universally known as "retard units").
Yes, this is my verifiably retarded selfie face!
So lemme just assure you that yes, this was cold; and yes, it took like 30 minutes for my toes to regain any form of natural/normal heat.
I, being pretty squeamish about these sorts of things, barely "swam"—more like wade out into waist-deep water, plunge in head-first, and run away to the safety of the cool air and a warm towel. Body feels fucking wonderful for the rest of the day.
One of my companions, however, swam around for a good two minutes. Badass lady.
Will I keep this up for all of February? Probs not (maybe 2-3 a week, though).
What craziness are the Stackers doing for this month? (or year?)
Well hot Tub bath is fucking crazy too!! 🤣
This year it's not an usual winter here and I missed the bath in the hot springs near the river.

You are going to do it again??? Haha
A lot of people like to do the polar plunge here in Canada on New Years day and jump in the freezing cold lakes but they learn their lesson and don't do it again for another year.

hahahaha PUSSIES.
Yeah, ideally every day but that is so not going to happen. Good, purging-type shit; builds character (#Huberman), cleanses the soul !

Sounds boring

Polar bear plunge. Its all a mind game.

I know the Finns do this. They include this as part of their national character, sisu. But I never knew you do this too. Puts my daily struggle with cold showers into perspective

tots. It's part a Nordic tradition/custom (ordinary people just go sea swimming, esp in winter), but it's also 'Murican bros (hashtag Joe Rogan) popularizing it

Wading out to waste deep is so much worse than just diving in.

Good god, that's too cold for me. Good on ya.

This is incredible. I'm sitting on my ass next to a wood stove, and it's not even 0 celsius outside.

I'm planning a trip to Norway soon, but I was very disappointed by the lack of merchants on BTCmap.org.
How can such a badass nation not be taking Bitcoin adoption more seriously?! Is it really as dry as BTCmap makes it look? Do you have any suggestions for places to go accepting Bitcoin?

There is very little. All across Scandi lands, it's sad.
You can google up some specific ones e.g. here, but otherwise just stray individuals here and there https://northernfood.no/2023/09/18/bitcoin-bonden-selger-lokal-kjott-og-mat-og-godtar-betaling-i-digitalvaluta/

Amazing! I used to swim in the serpentine pond in London, until early December. That was probably 15 years ago. It's interesting how the body can adapt when gradually being exposed to extreme temperatures. One day, I stayed too long in the water, my mates got worried, and they came out to check if I was still ok. I was fine. I've always wanted to go back after all these years...

Kids, it's a different life today. Also, I've moved, and live a bit further away from the Hyde park.
