Spotted this today:
note: I’ve actually been here a little bit longer than that, 113 days (https://stacker.news/denlillaapan) —I messed up in the early days and lost my hat for a day at one point.
I like numbers, so let’s do a little bit of a summary.
I was plenty excited about my MONEY CLASSES early on; by my count I wrote 24.5 of them (the half one was a complaint about time management and a fiat job I really didn’t like: #777740). I got rewarded with eye-popping fucking zaps. That was nice. That was unexpected.
Since then, things have sort of trailed off. Zaps are lower, activity less great, my MONEY CLASSES def reduced in both quality and quantity. They motivated me a lot in the beginning, but I kinda slowed down the pace there (a lot! sorry, @Undisciplined), I think in part because of my fiat job.
Since I’m dedicating more time to bitcoin on a daily/professional basis than I did in the fall, I find myself having less of an urge to write and think about money every day. I find myself a little bit squeezed by life/commitments too: what I post on SN is more effort, relatively speaking, for less direct reward (zaps) and stingier leaderboard rewards. So, rationally speaking, I should attend to it less.
Profile says I've almost stacked 700k in total—but I supposed that ignores what was spent in zaps (in part, of course, to get those sweet rewards!). That's about 6,000 sats a day, or about $150 extra monthly income net of fees/zaps. That's definitely a decent side hustle, but again, a lot of those come from earlier (=lower BTC price) and big phat zaps for early MONEY CLASSES. (Going rate might be in the 50,000-100,000 sats a month).
If I'm reading this graph right, it suggests I post more items now than I did initially:
So yeah, I should hang out here less, is how I'm reading the numbers.
As for SN itself, I'm very unimpressed by the CC wallet stuff (#850716) —even though, full disclosure, I haven't had a problem in a while so perhaps dudes are right that it's just growing pains/annoyance of learning new things. But I do think it shows in terms of engagement, newcomers, and number of items (#871820). (Indeed, I have my money where my mouth is on that: https://beta.predyx.com/market/stacker-news-hit-14m-items-in-2025).
Instead, what has me riled up about SN nowadays is the commitment effect of RBD’s ~HealthAndFitness: reporting my outcomes every week (#871616) is a lovely motivation; writing about what yoga is and does is a labor of love (#863896). Less effort or time involved than a full article/blog post; more passion and reward than a Nostr tweet.
That seems much more lowkey and much less taxing on my time.
You can do anything for three months, and it takes 66 days to form a habit blah-blah, but we'll see how long I'll stick around.
P.S., saw a version of this post on Nostr today (some Stacker/Internet sleuth will find it for me).
Not sure what that means re: my SN involvement.
Nice enough extra avenue for writing—and the workout commitment is pretty neat—so for now I guess I'll keep pestering you good folks a while longer!
Keep Stacking, Stackers.
