The problem with this article is that ignores the fact that v4v already exists. Go on any popular stream on twitch and see for yourself. Yes it's fiat, but that doesn't really matter because the point of the article is that "very few people have good will"
The only difference is that there are less bitcoiners so a smaller audience.
TLDR: We're still early.

There's some background here, but most of the evidence is preserved in the name. The reason we're asked to call busking/tipping/trade something else is to hide crappy incentives, and "trick" people into giving more than they would if it were called busking/tipping. Information wants to be free whether it's valuable or not, whether it's called valuable or not.

Yeah... typical how a good thing gets blown out and distorted. Adam Curry popularized the V4V term but has always said the value is determined not by the creator but the receiver.
The whole "you owe me" thing is super common in Open Source as well. Dude, you opened sourced code. I don't owe you anything. That's not how the world works.
