I think the article is less about the effectiveness of online busking/tipping culture and more so about the specific psyop of V4V. Twitch is not telling people "this is a new paradigm where free riding doesn't exist."
I'm not as deep into the culture yet as you are, so I just took it at face value.
Apparently there's messaging about it that I'm not aware of.

There's some background here, but most of the evidence is preserved in the name. The reason we're asked to call busking/tipping/trade something else is to hide crappy incentives, and "trick" people into giving more than they would if it were called busking/tipping. Information wants to be free whether it's valuable or not, whether it's called valuable or not.

Ok, i think I get it.
Streamer = hey guys If you like it please donate.
V4v = i made value, you owe me.
Is that correct?

Yeah... typical how a good thing gets blown out and distorted. Adam Curry popularized the V4V term but has always said the value is determined not by the creator but the receiver.
The whole "you owe me" thing is super common in Open Source as well. Dude, you opened sourced code. I don't owe you anything. That's not how the world works.

It's probably my fault for not looking into it more, I tend be very charitable with how I interpret things, which often gets me in trouble or makes me look dumb.

Nah, I think what you describe is how many view V4V.
