Hopefully my family will be able to recover it. There are at least 2 people I think I can count on for that. If not, then you guys just get a donation.
That's kinda like an apples to oranges comparison.
LN is overall more private, but of course still not perfect. For instance the sender is much better protected than the receiver. The receiver has to expose the public key of his node. If you want to receive privately for now you can operate with an LSP or use lnproxy for your invoices.
Not sure how this makes me feel.
I know how it is and it makes me feel sad. Because it just puts in evidence how people behave like sheep and can't seem to learn from their experience.
I know what you say is true because I've seen it here where I live as well. "We accept Binance" or "Binance Platform" in big letters as if that somehow is a synonym of good reputation. And to think that Binance might still collapse and rug all those people is extra sad.
Not yet. We still need at least anyprevout & CTV. Those things would bring tons of improvements to LN and are not nearly as controversial as drivechains.
Anyone who buys into the idea of Bitcoin is doing so to sell it for a higher price at a future date.
This is how far I got. That statement is obviously wrong, so how much research could have been put into this "documentary" to begin with?
I mean I guess I get your point that this is where most normies' thinking process stops and that's frankly sad.
lnp2pbot, the telegram bot is also a nice non-KYC lightning-powered alternative.
I don't know the details of how that 10^130 number comes from, but just the fact that the domain you linked as the source has "answers in genesis" in it makes me highly suspicious and less likely to even want to waste time trying to debunk it.
Question your starting assumptions.
Yeah but we all know this is not what happens. It's mostly not "reporting" to start with, or some of it is, but it comes tainted with opinion in some cases, or outright here's-what-you-should-think-of-this packaging from so called "pundits".
And of course there's no accountability if one of these happens to actually make a prediction that can be proven wrong. Bitcoin mining was going to consume all the world's energy by 2020, remember?
An aunt decided to send us some money for the birth of my baby. Wiring the money was too clumsy so I decided to teach her how to send the same amount (50 EUR) using Bitcoin.
I bought that much bitcoin and set up a 1-of-2 multisig with my spouse.
You might have a point. But mine is that bitcoin should be voluntary. I see little point in trying to shove it down everyone's throat. Sure, it's nice to educate folks, but there are people that will just not change their ways or see things the way we do, and that's fine.
Bitcoin should win on its own merits by having superior traits. In the meantime the best strategy for me is to hold it and spend softer money first. It's holders that give Bitcoin it's value after all. So I see it as a bit unproductive in trying to demonize them/us.
I will spend some sats here and there too. But this is more like charity, there's a component of experimentation too and in some cases, since I already have sats, the experience is actually better. However, I'm under no illusion; these small deeds aren't my primary contributions to the success of Bitcoin. That would be me using it as a savings vehicle.
Not really. I don't know in what world you live in, but around me nobody takes bitcoin directly. I don't loose my sleep over it though. Whenever I need some cash I just sell some sats and pay whatever I need to.
And yes, because I do it P2P I do need to keep a fiat buffer. But it's a small one.
Would it be slightly better if everybody just took my sats directly? sure. Is it a big issue for me that would lead me to waste precious sats? no.
