## What Is A Circular Economy?

A Bitcoin circular economy is a free market where you can trade any products or services for bitcoin, including daily needs like food, jobs and housing.

The state censors fiat markets via regulations, permits and KYC. In comparison, a Bitcoin circular economy is peer-to-peer and meritocratic — no state permission or government ID is required to participate.

Practical examples include local Bitcoin marketplace groups in Telegram, a farmers market that accepts bitcoin, KYC-free apartment rentals or a Bitcoin health insurance. More use cases are covered in this article.

## Bitcoin Fixes This — A Liberatory Currency For Liberatory Markets

Bitcoin doesn’t only separate money and state, it also separates markets and states. A Bitcoin circular economy is based only on supply and demand — no state regulations, bans, KYC, permits, subsidies or quotas are necessary. This creates meritocratic free markets, where your skills, ideas, character and effort matter more than the state’s permission.

Bitcoin is the perfect currency for a truly free market. Bitcoin provides a secure, globally accessible, permissionless, peer-to-peer network to send, receive, earn, spend and save money — without third parties, government ID, censorship, seizures, high fees or long wait times. You can send money to anyone worldwide, which arrives in 10 minutes for currently less than 50 cents in fees. Ownership of funds is proven by a pseudonymous cryptographic private key, meaning no personal information is required. In addition, there is no risk of corporate censorship like Mastercard; chargebacks or seized funds like PayPal; fraud or theft like banking; high fees like Western Union or counterfeit bills like cash.

KYC-free exchanges, Bitcoin ATMs and Bitcoin vouchers enable people to easily trade local cash for bitcoin — no government ID or bank account required. Easy-to-use bitcoin wallets, such as Blue Wallet or Samourai Wallet for mobile and Electrum or Sparrow Wallet for desktop, make it possible to send and receive money worldwide with one click.

Bitcoin’s security, utility and practical use cases for financial inclusion and economic freedom have been consistently proven over 10-plus years with billions of dollars. The technology works and the possibilities are infinite.

## Why Is KYC-Free Important

Participation in the Bitcoin circular economy must be available for everyone.

Today, disproportionate and harmful KYC regulations actively exclude millions of people who don’t have government ID (e.g., the State refuses to print an ID for them) or who can’t show ID for safety reasons (e.g., they are a victim of abuse) from the economy. This fatalistic and unmeritocratic form of discrimination affects people’s daily lives and restricts access to necessities like jobs, finances, apartment rentals, healthcare, online shopping, receiving mail, buying a sim card or visiting the gym or library.

In a meritocratic, inclusive and truly free market, no state-assigned identity is required: For a job, only your skills and work ethic is important; for housing, only your ability to pay rent is important; for healthcare, only your medical condition is important.

If authentication or trust is required, it is enough to say your name (or a pseudonym), use a password/PIN (e.g., an SMS code to pick up mail), cryptographic keypair (such as in Bitcoin or PGP), reputation network (online reviews, vouches from friends, word of mouth), cash deposit (e.g., for rentals) or multisig escrow (jobs, purchases). Although personal IDs are an unnecessary and potentially dangerous concept, non-government IDs from platforms like [Bitnation](https://www.ibtimes.co.uk/decentralised-government-project-bitnation-offers-refugees-blockchain-ids-bitcoin-debit-cards-1526547), micronations like [Liberland](https://liberland.org/) or privacy organizations like [Digitalcourage](https://digitalcourage.de/en) are more accessible than the single point of failure of gatekeeping government ID systems.

The gray market has offered KYC-free services for decades, including jobs, apartments, healthcare, PO boxes, sim cards and more, on a word-of-mouth, cash-in-hand basis. Due to cutting out bureaucracy, fees and middlemen, transactions are easier, quicker and cheaper. Bitcoin, as an uncensorable, peer-to-peer digital money, has the potential to enable stronger global and local free markets, which are accessible to all.

## Practical Examples

Bitcoin circular economies provide online and physical places to trade products and services, free from censorship, surveillance or restrictions. Circular economies are also known as agoras, second realms, gray markets and parallel economies and are part of agorist, [vonu](https://www.amazon.com/Vonu-Strategy-Self-Liberation-Shane-Radliff/dp/1723447447), cypherpunk, anarcho-capitalist and libertarian practice. These markets focus on entrepreneurs, communities and small businesses and avoid state-backed corporations.

Here are some starter examples, but many more can be added:

**Bitcoin ~Craigslist~ AGORA**

Sell products and services for bitcoin on a peer-to-peer basis, both online and in person. Some examples include food, electronics, books, clothes and cars. Reviews and multisig escrow can improve security where required. From grocery stores to barbers, restaurants, taxis, delivery, pharmacies, health clinics, gyms and more, Bitcoin adoption in brick-and-mortar stores can contribute greatly to local circular economies and make it convenient to live on a Bitcoin standard.

You can easily accept bitcoin payments in your brick-and-mortar store or encourage your favorite businesses to accept bitcoin via a mobile wallet or a point of sale such as BTCPay Server. You can also sell gift cards or memberships that can be purchased with bitcoin.

With Bitcoin, you can easily hire people locally or globally, **without paperwork**, red tape or restrictions. Portfolios, reviews, milestones and multisig escrow can help to protect you against scams_,and ensure your agreements are fulfilled_.

Whether you want to work as a remote graphic designer, offer local lawn care services, need a one-time task or a full-time employee, you can offer your skills for bitcoin in a truly meritocratic borderless job market.

**Bitcoin Air~BnB~BTC and Bitcoin Citadels**

**Bitcoin fundraising**

Bitcoin offers a unique way to fundraise money without censorship. Unlike GoFundMe or Kickstarter, no bank account or government ID is required, there are no high fees, no restrictions and you can donate anonymously. Simply create a Bitcoin address, add a donation button with SatSale or use BTCPay Server for a fully featured fundraiser, and you are ready to receive donations. With this, you can fundraise money for your business idea, receive charitable donations and donate to causes that you care about.

**Bitcoin meetups**

Start Bitcoin meetups, whether online in a forum, Matrix room or Signal group or in person in a cafe, hackerspace or convention. Both small local meetups and large conferences can help you to meet other Bitcoiners, create ad-hoc Bitcoin marketplaces and expand your network. Get to know people from all professions, such as farmers, doctors, programmers, truck drivers and more, and grow a Bitcoin community _around you, (in case there's not an existing one already)_.

**Proxy merchants**

Via proxy merchants, you can access sim cards, receive mail, buy land, make fiat payments and more without KYC _requirements and preserving your privacy_. The proxy merchant registers the service under their company name and you pay them a fee in bitcoin. In this way, proxy merchants provide a bridge between the free “crypto economy” and the gatekeeping “fiat economy.”

Unlike shell companies with nominee directors, proxy merchants don’t require government ID. This provides an accessible and pseudonymous method to access necessary services.

Some concrete examples of proxy merchants:

Personal shopping services: The customer enters the product URL and sends bitcoin. Then the personal shopper pays the fiat invoice with their bank account and the customer receives the product. This helps people to shop online, even if they don’t have a bank account.

Anonymous sim cards: A company registers sim cards under their name or imports sim cards from countries without KYC requirements and resells them for a profit. _There are always bitcoiners around looking for it!_

Anonymous PO boxes: The customer sends a letter or package to a local business, pays a fee and picks up the mail with an SMS code or password.

Apartment rentals and land purchases: The proxy merchant makes the contract under their company name for a fee. The customer can then live in the apartment or build on the land, no ID required.

If you have a business, shell company or access to government ID, you can consider offering proxy merchant services to people who need them, with your own fees, terms and limits.

Isn't this fantastic? One of the major seven crowdfunding platforms worldwide allows creators in any part of the world to create campaigns and accept donations in bitcoin. The option for Donors to donate anonymously is enabled by default in the campaign dashboard, so it's up to the campaign manager(s) to activate it in case some extra donor information is needed.   
I was even more surprised to see that Bitcoin is the first payment option in the campaign creation, followed by the traditional financial institutions options.

The requirement to attach a wallet is simply to introduce a bitcoin address. Nothing more!
Stackers, no offense, but this is even better and easier than [Satsrisers](https://stacker.news/search/r/AG?q=Satsriser&what=posts&sort=zaprank)! And the fee is only 3% of each received donation.   
As you are probably guessing, I could not resist creating one campaign and testing the full functionalities. I decided to create one for the AGORA, firstly because it is still impossible here in SN to zap directly any stacker or territory.

So yep, here it is, our GoGetFounding crowdfunding campaign! The only pity is that you need to connect a fiat payment system to verify the campaign and start receiving donations. That's a real downside, at least for us! 

Wish this will be helpful for other organizations that are looking to easily receive donations in Bitcoin and do not have the technical knowledge to set up something more independent like BTCpay server, LNbits, or other similar opensource tools.

### “If bitcoin works here, it can work anywhere.”

Someone asked Anita why she went to Zimbabwe to educate people about bitcoin. I assumed it was because of that nation’s notorious hyperinflation.  I’m sure that played a role, but she said that she wanted to show people that bitcoin can be adopted anywhere and everywhere.  Listen to a few of her podcasts. You’ll wonder where she gets her drive and focus.  

Anita grew up in Austria. Before becoming a bitcoin activist she worked in web development and e-commerce. As a woman, she describes the subtle or overt slights and disadvantages of being under appreciated in a male dominated world. She is openly gay and a professed feminist. I have never seen any indication that her politics has affected her success as a bitcoin activist. She speaks at bitcoin conferences and events throughout the world. She is a frequent guest on the most popular bitcoin podcasts. Her standing in the community belies the common misconception that bitcoin is only for “alt right” men, whatever the hell alt right even means. Bitcoin doesn’t give a damn about your politics or beliefs. Bitcoin is freedom for everyone, the opposite of the ideals embraced by virtue signaling authoritarians. 

Bitcoin is also still characterized in some circles as a scam or get rich quick scheme. The fact that this bullshit still gains traction amazes me. Maybe those pushing these narratives should follow Anita around for a few weeks, if they can keep up with her.

Bitcoin is about proof of work, and that’s where Anita excels.

She has dedicated her life to educating disadvantaged communities in the global south about bitcoin. She walks the walk. She lives on bitcoin, although doing so is not always convenient, and sometimes the volatility causes a loss of purchasing power. She’s not in it for a lambo. She’s not “investing” in bitcoin with the goal of gaining great wealth. I can’t imagine her saying “have fun staying poor”. She spends a good part of her life in the Global South, in overcrowded cities or tiny isolated villages. Internet connectivity is spotty and blackouts are frequent. Basic necessities are sometimes in short supply.  It’s not about Larry Fink and BlackRock. It’s about the communities that have been victimized by the neo colonialism of organizations like the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank.  It’s about those African nations forced to use the [CFA franc](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CFA_franc), which drains these nations of their resources while enriching France.

### “Keep The Unbanked Unbanked”

I heard her say this on a podcast once. It stuck with me. The point is that bitcoin is the only bank you need. Many people in the countries where she works have never had a bank account. They don’t need one. She describes the lightning network as your checking account, and onchain bitcoin as your savings account. She intentionally keeps her educational materials simple and practical. She isn’t teaching about merkle trees and elliptic curve cryptography.  She is teaching how to use bitcoin as the solid, bullet proof money that it is.

If you look at the Bitcoin For Fairness web site, there are links to videos and blog posts teaching how to download a wallet to a cell phone, where to buy bitcoin, and a guide to the Machankura platform, which 

> allows you to buy goods, send and receive bitcoin via the Lightning Network without the need for internet or smartphone.

This is all basic, nuts and bolts advice to get you using bitcoin right away. There is little technical theory. BFF does provide links to resources for those who do want to pursue a career in bitcoin development, but that’s not where the emphasis lies.

Learning about Anita and the many others in the bitcoin community doing this type of work always makes me feel a little guilty. I may be obsessed with bitcoin, but it’s mostly through reading and interacting with other bitcoiners on Stacker News and Nostr. I surf the web while comfortably lounging on my cushy recliner chair.

So I want to make some changes. I want to get off my ass and spend more time working on fundraising for the people who are dedicating their lives to bitcoin education and adoption. This satsraiser is a small start, but it’s a start.



Another thing I am trying to do is also inspired by Anita. I am trying to get closer to the ideal of “living on bitcoin.” I have used the excuse that it’s too difficult for too long. I’m going to take it one expense at a time.  I’m asking local merchants if they accept bitcoin. I get some weird looks. I haven’t had much success. I hope to get better with practice.

The people you encounter are more likely to have a cell phone and a reliable internet connection. The neighborhoods you visit won’t be under constant threat of blackouts. Maybe you can establish the next Bitcoin For Fairness.

Hi cowboys and cowgirls! I could use some assistance. I think sats cards are a great product from coinkite! You can purchase them [here](​​https://store.coinkite.com/store/satscard). I have given multiple loaded cards out as wedding gifts. I plan to distribute a few empty sats cards to family and friends as Christmas gifts. [The website](https://satscard.com/faq) has much of the info someone would need to use the card but requires bitcoin knowledge. I need a one-page PDF handout (can be double sided) with super-easy click-by-click guide at a 5th grade level, with attractive normie-friendly visuals.

I don't care if they know how to remove the funds, only that they understand that “not-your-key-card, not-your-bitcoin”. I want the person to have a simple guide on how to *load* the sats card which I can distribute when I give them the card. Example:

**On-chain only method:**
1. Download River from the app store. Follow the necessary steps to purchase your bitcoin. The minimum suggested amount to load the card should be $100 to $250. Ideally $1000+ per card if feasible. 
2. Download nunchuck wallet from the app store. Tap your sats card to your phone's NFC chip reader. Copy the on chain bitcoin address associated with your sats card. 
3. Go to River, paste the on-chain bitcoin address. Send. 

**Lightening swap method:**
1. Download River from the app store. Follow the necessary steps to purchase your bitcoin.
2. Download nunchuck wallet from the app store. Tap your sats card to your phone's NFC chip reader. Copy the on chain bitcoin address. 
3. Pull up [boltz.exchange](https://boltz.exchange/). Type in the amount of bitcoin you wish to send to the sats card. Paste your onchain bitcoin address, “Create swap”.
4. Pay the invoice with your River account or other bitcoin exchange 

I am looking for someone to go into some more detail and add helpful visuals. This cannot be a wall of text, it needs to be broken up and FUN. Your assistance is much appreciated. **Bounty paid out by 12/25/25**.
