On Thursday we had an amazing and insightful session led by #Graysatoshi and #Jetty, where we dived deep into some of the most exciting platforms in the Bitcoin space, including Planb.network, Bitcoinerjobs.com, Plebwork.com, and Airbtc.online. Here's a breakdown of what we learned step by step:

1. Bitcoinerjobs.com:
   - We explored how Bitcoin enthusiasts can find paid online work through Bitcoinerjobs.com. This platform allows Bitcoiners to apply for various job opportunities that pay in Bitcoin. We learned how to create an account, browse for available jobs, and apply for work that matches your skills, all while earning in Bitcoin.
  
2. Plebwork.com:
   - Another great platform we discussed was Plebwork.com, where people can also find work and get paid in Bitcoin. We saw how this platform connects Bitcoiners with employers who pay exclusively in Bitcoin. It's a great way for anyone passionate about Bitcoin to earn while contributing to the ecosystem.

3. Airbtc.online:
 - For people running businesses like Airbnb, hotels, restaurants, apartments, and more, Airbtc.online is an excellent platform to list your business and accept Bitcoin as payment. We learned how businesses can join this platform, create listings, and attract customers who prefer to pay in Bitcoin. This opens up a new way of transacting for businesses and customers who believe in the power of digital currency.

4. Planb.network:
   - Lastly, we discussed Planb.network, a fantastic resource for beginners in the Bitcoin world. It’s an educational platform that offers a free Bitcoin learning course to help people get started on their Bitcoin journey. Planb.network is a great project for anyone looking to gain solid knowledge about Bitcoin, its use cases, and how to get involved in the ecosystem.

All these platforms are interconnected by their commitment to the Bitcoin community and offer valuable opportunities for Bitcoiners. From finding jobs that pay in Bitcoin to running businesses that accept Bitcoin, these resources will help anyone looking to take full advantage of the growing Bitcoin economy.

Last year's [NBA In-Season Tournament Survivor Pool](https://stacker.news/items/340815/r/Undisciplined) was a lot of fun and @POTUS walked away with 27k sats when the Pacers won the tournament.

# Emirates Cup Details
The tournament has four Group Play rounds, followed by three Knockout rounds.

The Group Play rounds are played every Tuesday from Nov. 12th to Dec. 3rd. Every team in the NBA is randomly assigned to one of the groups. This is three games fewer than last year.

The Knockout rounds are a single elimination tournament between the eight best teams from the Group Play rounds. The first round will be played on Dec. 10th and 11th. The second round will be played on Dec. 14th. The final round will be played on Dec. 17th.

# Survivor Pool Details
- The survivor pool will have a 3k buy-in and a 5k second buy-in, for those who need it. 
- The second buy-in can only be used prior to the Knockout Rounds.
- That means the pool is starting with at least 5k in prize money (8k if I miss a pick).
- Any sats zapped to survivor pool contest posts on SN or to my comments on those posts will be added to the buy-ins to make up the final prize (no sybil fee deductions)
- You can only pick each team once, so be careful not to use up the eventual contenders too early.
- If you forget to make a pick, I'll assign you whichever team has the worst odds for that round that you are still allowed to pick.
- In the event of a tie, the winner will be determined by whoever correctly predicts the Cup MVP first. If no one correctly predicts the cup MVP, then the winner will be decided by whoever most closely predicts the pointspread of the championship game.
- Posts for each round will go up the day after the previous round and selections can be made up until tip-off of the team you're selecting.

Hi, despite numerous guides out there about this already (see bottom for links), I thought I'd write another one because I had a bit of trouble that the others guides didn't mention.

This guide is designed for a complete beginner to LN, and the guide will walk you through the steps to:

1. Set up Alby Hub Desktop, which acts as both a local Lightning Node and Bitcoin/LN Wallet.
2. Receive Bitcoin into your new Alby Wallet.
3. Open a channel from your Alby Node to Stacker.News (because we want the shortest possible route to send and receive sats on SN right!?)
4. Generate some inbound liquidity on your SN Channel (optional).
5. Attach your Alby Wallet to SN via NWC. (Note that this is *not the same* as opening a channel to Stacker.News).

This guide was written for Windows 11, but the steps are probably same or similar for other OS.

## Prerequisites
1. You must own some Bitcoin and know how to send BItcoin to an address on-chain.
2. You must have a Stacker.News account.
3. You must have a computer and OS capable of running Alby Desktop.
4. You should block out an hour or so, since you'll have to wait for on-chain confirmations.

That's it. No other prereqs.

## Download Alby Hub Desktop.

- Go here in your browser: https://guides.getalby.com/user-guide/alby-account-and-browser-extension/alby-hub/alby-hub-flavors/desktop
- Follow the instructions to download Alby Desktop for your OS.
- For Windows, it looks like this:

    Just click "Get Started" and follow the instructions

- You should end up with `albyhub-Desktop-Windows.zip`.
- Unzip it anywhere. I chose `C:/Users/Username/AlbyHub`
- You should end up with `albyhub.exe`. Double click this.
    - You may see a Windows Defender popup. Just click "More information" and "Run anyway".
    - You may also get a Firewall popup. Allow Alby to communicate via your network.
- Further note for Windows users: Alby stores data in `C:/Users/Username/AppData/Local/albyhub`

## Set up your Alby Desktop password.

- Click through all the welcoming screens.
- When you get to "Get Started" vs. "Advanced Setup", click "Get Started."
- Enter a secure password.  You must remember this because there is no way to recover!
- Click through to create the password.
- When you hit the screen that asks you connect an Alby account, just click "Later".

## Receive Bitcoin to your Alby wallet.

- You should now be on a screen like this:

- Ignore the "Get started with your Alby Hub" steps. This is where I got tripped up since it wanted me to buy liquidity from a list of pre-selected providers.  You shouldn't have to do this, so don't.

- Instead, click "Node" on the left.

- Click "Deposit" on "Savings Balance".

- Alby generates a Bitcoin receive address for you.  Use it to send Bitcoin to your Alby wallet!  It will wait for a few confirmations before it shows up in your Alby Wallet.

- Once you have enough confirmations, your deposit will show up in the "Savings Balance" part of the "Node" screen:

## Open a channel to Stacker.News

- First, you'll need to find the pubkey of Stacker.News.  You can find it on Amboss: https://amboss.space/node/03cc1d0932bb99b0697f5b5e5961b83ab7fd66f1efc4c9f5c7bad66c1bcbe78f02?section=General

- Copy the pubkey by clicking on the copy button:

- Go to the "Node" page in Alby Desktop and click "Open Channel"

- Enter the channel size.

- Click Advanced Options

- A "Channel Peer" menu shows up.  Click "Custom".

- Enter the pubkey of Stacker.News in the "Peer" field.

- I checked "Public Channel," but I don't think this is required.

- Click Open Channel.

- Alby will wait for 2 confirmations before the channel appears as open.

- You now have *outbound liquidity* on the SN channel.

## Get inbound liquidity on your SN channel (optional)

- Assuming SN is your only open channel, you need this step to get inbound liquidity.

- Simply buy something online which takes payment via Lightning Network.  

- Click "Wallet" in Alby Hub (on the left sidebar.)

- Click "Send"

- Enter the invoice or lightning address that you want to make payment to.

- Hit continue.

- Assuming SN was your only open channel, you will send the payment via that channel. You now have *inbound liquidity* on your SN channel and you are now able to receive payments on LN!

- On the "Node" screen, you see a channel status that looks like this:

## Attach your wallet to SN

- On the left sidebar in Alby Desktop, click "App Store"

- Find stacker news and click "Connect"

- The instructions you see on Alby may be buggy, so follow what I write instead (as of 2024-10-14).  

- Navigate to wallet in Stacker.News in your browser:

- Click "Attach wallets"

- Under NWC, click "Attach"

- *You need to create **two** connections by pasting in NWC pairing strings.*  One for send, and one for receive.

- First, we will create the *send* connection.
    - Go back to Alby Desktop. You should still be on the stacker news app page.  Click "Connect to stacker news"
    - Change the "Name" to "stacker news send"
    - SN recommends keeping "Full Access" selected, so I will also recommend. More advanced, security conscious users can modify permissions if they like.
    - You can optionally set a budget so that you don't accidentally spend too much via this connection (i.e. due to a bug or attack.)
    - Click "Next"
    - Copy the pairing secret.
    - Paste it in "Connection for sending" in Stacker.News in your browser.
    - On Alby Hub, it will keep saying "Waiting for app to connect."  Wait until a "Continue anyway" pops up and click that.

    - Your "stacker news send" connection should now have been created, but it's not attached yet to SN because you didn't finish configuring on SN yet.

- Now, we will create the *receive* connection.

    - Go back to the "App Store" in Alby Desktop. 
    - Find Stacker News again and click "Connect".
    - Change the name to "stacker news receive"
    - This time, don't select "Full Access".  Instead, select "Custom."
    - Enable the following:  "Read your node info", "Lookup status of invoices", "Create invoices".  (This may not actually be the minimum requirements, but I found that if you **just** do 'Create invoice', you will get an error on SN.)

    - Get the pairing string and paste it in "Connection for receiving" in Stacker.News.
    - As a test, set your autowithdraw limit to something under your current SN wallet amount.
    - Click "attach".

Congratulations!  You should have successfully attached your Alby Wallet to SN via NWC.  Your sats should withdraw automatically within a few seconds.

I hope this is helpful to any newbies and non-technical folk who were feeling too intimidated to set up and attach a LN wallet.

# 0.0 Intro:

Nostr Wallet Connect (NWC) look's like being, lately, the most requested and used option to connect your node to SN! And SN to your node... In this guide, we will go through a few simple steps to _leverage_ the nostr protocol to move sats around wallets: SN wallet and your (ideally NON-custodial) wallet. [NWC.dev](https://nwc.dev/) is the open protocol to connect lightning wallets to apps. Pretty damn powerful, considering its level of censorship resistance and privacy.

There are still not many options that have NWC integrated and working, providing the capability to generate public keys and secret keys to connect wallets and apps through nostr relays. @Alby Hub is the latest one, and THE one we gonna use in this guide. Ready?

# 2.0 Creating the NWC connection keys on AlbyHub

If you are still learning and or evaluating options for your Lightning node, I highly suggest you starting from @Darthcoin guides, forever available on [github](https://darth-coin.github.io/) and [substack](https://darthcoin.substack.com/) in many languages.

At this point, I'll assume you have your LN node running and some channels already opened with some perfectly balanced liquidity (sats). It's an absolutely vital detail we cannot miss! You ca also check the health status of your node after installing AlbyHub. 👇

The cool stuff about AlbyHub is that allow, not only to check your node and channel status, but most essential for this scenario, it gives much better management capabilities of the permissions you want to assign to specific NWC keys. I'll start from the AlbyHub App Store because in this way our Connection will be later featured in the AlbyHub connections page with the beautiful SN icon instead of being a just generic one.

### 2.2 Creating the Connection keys
Let's click on the **stacker news** **[🔌 Connect]** button, and we'll see that by default, the Connection is set to give **Full Access** to the app, you can keep it this way if you like.

My suggestion is to set the permission at a minimum to define exactly what access each Connection key to do just what it supposed to do with your wallet! Check the settings below respectively for sending NWC connection key and another different one for receiving:

In the Connection key for sending you also have the option to set a badget, in the example below, the connection will be allowed to take from your node until a max of 100k sats a month.

Indeed, if you are really control freak, you could set an expiration date for both connections keys independently.

Each time you create a Connection, you'll see this screen. **Note that after leaving this screen you'll be not able to retrieve the Connection keys provided, and if you close it accidentally just delete the Connection and create a new one.**

- 2.3.1 Click the **[Copy pairing secret]** button, it will keep the Connection keys in your clipboard.
- 2.3.2 Paste them in a text file for a moment, don't save the file, just keep them there for a sec! You could also go back and forward between AlbyHub and SN to do one at a time, whatever is easier for you.

How to Connect your LN node to SEND/RECEIVE sats to/from SN via NWC with AlbyHub

This post was something that's been on my mind for years now, actively in practice since 2022, and more recently inspired by [this post, 'The Freedom Tech Stack'](https://stacker.news/items/662538)

For context, I am a web developer, graphic/UX designer; hobbyist artist, video producer, poet, comedian, and relentless learner. I have been living with schizophrenia for 20 years now. I am extremely high-functioning, and as of February of this year, I maintain that high-functioning ability without the need for pharmaceutical medications. I say this not as an implicit suggestion that schizophrenic people not medicate, *they absolutely should,* but I say that as a position of authority when I tell you that I am a master of dealing with most forms of delusions, paranoia, and pragmatic application of personal benefit in the face of the bigger picture (which is so much further out of our control than most appear to be able to accept).

The reason I make this statement is that the Bitcoin community has a bit of a reputation - for better or worse - of being a bit paranoid. This list is not explicitly privacy-centric, but it is implicitly so due to the nature of self-hosting. It is instead focused on usability and control over ones own digital assets critical to everyday personal/business usage of software that the everyman is expected to know and use. 

I am not including blockchain technologies since everyone likely has highly opinionated flavors of choice in that regard and I don't want to muddy the conversation with preferential debates in that category. I am also not going to mention AI since these things are moving too quickly and I am making a list that is most likely to stand the test of time. If you prefer alternatives or additions to the items below, of course, voice them!

Lastly, this list is centric around two opinionated setups:
1. Using a UNIX-based system for self-hosting
2. Prioritizing web-based applications because browsers can/should run any imaginable application without having any resistance to standard operating systems like  GNU-Linux, MacOS, or Windows. That said, JavaScript enabled is assumed.

This post is a snapshot of my master list of software I use or have tested thoroughly and intend to use as I migrate away from proprietary software. They are based on three primary aspects:
1. Vote with your feet (data egress is permissible, compatible, and easy)
2. Aggressively copy-left (Free and Open Source Software, FOSS)
3. Self-hostable, modifiable, copyable and easy+legal to redistribute to your other systems + friends/family/peers

Some items are tagged "**Assembly Required**" - Signing up to the non-self-hosted option is EZMode, however setting up your own server will require sysadmin skills. Maybe one day, the community can hatch up a way for a one-click setup to be possible.

## Standalone client applications

### 1. [OpenOffice ](https://www.openoffice.org/download/index.html) - Microsoft Office Alternative
In my opinion, Open Office is simpler to use than alternatives like LibreOffice. It loads faster as well and does everything I expect it to.

### 2. [kdenlive](https://kdenlive.org/en/download/) - Premiere Pro Alternative
In my slow learning journey to escape Adobe, I was overjoyed when trying out kdenlive. It does everything I've tried to do in Premiere Pro and feels more intuitive and less clunky than Premiere Pro itself.

### 3. [Inkscape ](https://inkscape.org/release) - Adobe Illustrator Alternative
Inkscape is admittedly not my favorite compared to Adobe Illustrator. However, [not having malware on your system](https://community.adobe.com/t5/creative-cloud-services-discussions/how-do-we-remove-this-malware-virus-called-quot-creative-cloud-quot/m-p/13263244) is a great compromise.

### 4. [GIMP ](https://www.gimp.org/downloads/) - Photoshop Alternative
A suitable Photoshop replacement. The UX is pretty clunky, especially if you are migrating away from Adobe. However, I never ran into an instance where it couldn't do what I needed a Photoshop replacement to do.

### 5. [Jellyfin \[Assembly Required\]](https://jellyfin.org/downloads/server) - Self-hosted Netflix
If you have ever heard of Plex, it's the same idea. Self-host media that you already own to access your library the same as you would a streaming service like Netflix.

### 6. [KeePassXC ](https://keepassxc.org/) - Dashlane/OnePass Alternative
This password manager is opinionated that your passwords should not be accessible by your other devices, but does allow danger-mode like Cloud syncing if your risk tolerance allows it.

### 7. [Audacity ](https://www.audacityteam.org/) - Simple audio editing/mastering
I've always used Audacity, long before I knew what FOSS was.

## Why go through all this effort?
As mentioned, my schizophrenia diagnosis over time compelled me to examine and modify all sources of stress. In the context of software, as I became more interoceptive, I realized how annoyed/angry with everyday software usage. I would get bombarded with ads, upsells, or put into coercive relationships in regards to my data or usage of software. In most instances, software that I already paid a ton of money for! Furthermore, features would often get clawed back and eventually re-surface as paid features despite the application being advertised as "free tier forever." This wouldn't have bothered me if not for the fact that I was already paying them for parallel services, so the clawbacks simply meant I would pay a second time to get the same functionality back.

This careful management isn't exclusive to how I interact with software, but since this post is already pretty long-winded, I decided to stick to that theme.

I know this doesn't cover a lot of ways people use software, so if you have any additions to this list, please add them in the comments - there is a 100% chance I will zap your reply if the software is FOSS.

As I go through basketball withdrawals, I'm frantically trying to think of fun NBA content and I came up with something that I think will be a neat almost year-long contest.

Let's try to predict who will make up the All NBA 1st team next year, as well as who the league MVP will be and which team will win the title.

Here's the part I think will be fun: each month you can revise your predictions, but you get more credit for further out predictions. If you make a correct pick in June and don't change, you'll get 10 points, whereas a correct April pick is only worth one (assuming that I counted months correctly).

As with most of my contests, the prize will be however many sats are zapped to me on these posts (including comments).

NBA 2025 Prediction Contest

There are many posts discussing which Hardware Wallet to buy or why some Hardware Wallet companies don't accept Bitcoin, etc., **`but what if the whole point of Bitcoin is about self-responsibility, which includes making your own cold wallet?`** 🤔

I'm not against anyone buying any HW if you really want to, as it's definitely better than storing it in exchanges or putting your hard-earned sats in any hot wallets. *But learning how to make my own cold wallet was one the most empowering moments in my Bitcoin journey*, and you can create it on the go instead of waiting for deliveries, which is much more efficient and private too!

### **Why not Buy a Hardware Wallet and Done?**

I purchased some hardware wallets before and really regretted them, now they are sleeping somewhere and as decoys... but if you really want to buy one, I recommend buying these hardware wallets when traveling. For example, I bought mine when I was in Europe, and not only did it deliver faster and with lower tax, all I did was use the Airbnb address and random name, done. Also, ideally, you shouldn't pay it with any fiat cards under your name; otherwise, it's all linked.

But the most turnoff part for me is you need to keep updating it, and the last thing I want is to pay attention to whatever this company is doing. Seriously, all I need is somewhere SAFE to keep my stash, so I found a better solution later: **a DIY cold wallet with Tails OS — the simple understanding of this setup is using an encrypted USB with a clean OS and a built-in Electrum Wallet, and you can create any cold wallet offline this way.** ( *sorry, this is the best I can explain, and I don't know too much about the deeper tech levels* )

### **DIY Cold Wallet Benefits**

***Private***: you avoid all the potential KYC or information leaked, as these hardware wallets are essentially honey pots.

***Low key***: you can make your own cold wallet with USBs in different looks, while carrying hardware wallets is basically telling others: hey, I have Bitcoin, and here is where I store them.

***Low cost***: why waste unnecessary money when you can stack more sats? And making your own with a USB is dirt cheap...

And the good news is if I can do it, you can do it too! just need to be patient, read on to find out how.

### **How to Make a Cold Wallet?**

**1. Use `cash` to buy a normal USB ( 8 GB minimum )**

Fun fact: you won't even have any receipt when paying in cash these days; also, choosing any USB between ***16 to 32 GB*** is good enough.



**2. Install tailsOS into the USB stick.**

It might take some time to download, and simply follow all the detailed steps [here](https://tails.net/install/index.en.html). *( this tutorial is based on MacBook )*

Open balenaEtcher — Flash from file ( choose TailsOS ) — Select target ( your USB and all the data on this USB stick will be lost )  — flash — wait a bit and done — restart the computer.

Now you have the USB ready, and we are moving on to creating a cold wallet offline! 🥁



**3. Boot the USB.**

Press and hold the `Option` when you turn on the computer, then choose the USB stick ( FEI boot ), and press `Enter`, then it will load the welcome screen, here is a good [video](https://tails.net/install/inc/videos/mac.mp4) showing the process when enter your TailsOS. *( First-time users can just click `start tails` to see how things are inside, play around and get familiar with the OS. )*



*Extra note*

/ It doesn't work with newer Mac computers with an Apple processor (M1 or M2), feel free to chip in solutions.



**4. Create the persistent storage and set the password**

If you want to keep some important information inside the USB stick, you need to set the persistent volume so you can still access the data after each shutdown because everything you do in TailsOS will be wiped the second you close it *by default*.

**After all these setups, save something into the persistent volume, reboot the USB again, and try to see how things are entering with the password and without it.** Fun fact: if you access the OS without the password, you'll enter a clean OS; *And the beauty of this is even if someone else picks up your USB, they can only enter into this clean OS, with NO access to any encrypted data!*

*Sharing one more story*: I once lost my bag with a USB with a small stash of emergency funds. However, I was quite calm thinking about where I possibly left my bag in because a. I got backups, b. people could never have guessed there was Bitcoin in it, c. no one could access that USB but me, and that's the whole point. 



**5. Open the built-in Electrum.** 

Here it comes with the normal practice of creating a new wallet in Electrum: *do this when you are alone and in a calm mind; Cover ALL cameras and turn off the phones.*



**a. Create a new wallet**

Name it to anything you like, and optionally set a password for this wallet file; then, you can simply use this password with the wallet file to open the wallet without inputting the seeds later.

You then would be shown different wallet options to choose from. For simplicity, I'm showing you how to make the standard one.

**b. Write down the seeds** 

Create the seeds, and write them down somewhere *safe*.

Then you would be asked to type and confirm the seeds.



**Optional:** **you can also extend the seeds with custom words by clicking the `options`**; As for how to keep the seeds, one thing to note is that you always make copies, ideally 3, and in different places.



*Simple solutions as reference*

- Make it into half or three pieces, and put it in different places: it can be digital, meat place, or a mix of both.
- Use your own memory, especially for your biggest stash.
- Make a song or poet with the words.

Be creative, but always keep it simple, and one of the good solutions is to make use of the built-in KeePassXC password manager: open it — create a new database — set file name — set password — save it in persistent storage ( important! otherwise, it would be GONE after the computer shuts down ), and mark down the `Master key`, `seeds`, and `a few addresses` for the later verifying.



*- Master Key*: click Wallet Information, it's showing in the Master Public Key area.

*- Seeds*: the 12 words that you just wrote down.

*- Address*: click View and Show Address, mark down the first and the last few addresses.

*Optionally, you can also mark down the derivation path and fingerprint.*



**c. Set the password to encypt wallet file**

***Important*:** This password for the wallet file is useful only if you are storing the wallet file in Persistent Storage. Otherwise, the file would be gone the second you shut down the computer.



**d. Restart the computer (stay offline) and verify.**

**You should always `verify` the wallet before depositing any funds**: restart the computer and open both Electrum and KeePassXC password manager — create a wallet — name it — Standard wallet —I already have a seed — enter the seed — load the wallet address and compare these addresses with those that we previously marked down in KeePassXC — if it's the same, then congrats! you have learned how to make your cold wallet:) 

This is the simplest setup, and you can definitely try with 2FA or multi-sign; Choose whatever works for you, but always KISS because oftentimes, you are your own enemy.

### **The Art of Using the Cold Wallet**

Firstly, using cold wallets for **long term saving** or **create Lightning channels** only, it's *not meant for daily use*.

### **How to deposit?**

Create a watch-only wallet, but you can't use this watch-only wallet to send any sats; the watch-only wallet choice can be a Blue wallet or Green wallet, or even Zeus *( Starting with v0.9.0 )*.



***👀 Advancing step***

*Ideally, plan your UTXO ( unspent transaction output ) well when depositing*; don't send a big chunk of sats or have too many small ones. For example, it could be 1M, 3M, or 10M for each deposit. Otherwise, it will cost too much fee or potentially bad for privacy when you are using them in the future. The solution could be to think and plan ahead how you will use these funds in the future. *yes, it's not easy to be your own banker, but that responsibility comes with freedom.*



***Real-life samples on why UTXO planning is important***

In the fiat world, if you are buying something that costs $9, logically you use either $10 or two $5 for it instead of $100, right? In the Bitcoin world, if you are buying something costing 90k sats, then you can either use one 100k sat UTXO or combine two 50k sat UTXO, and you don't want to use a 1M sat UTXO for it because it will be too much "changes" = high fee.

But as the world gradually embraces Bitcoin and people start to see the magic of Lightning, we would use onchain for large amount of transactions only; And see the chart below to show you how the fee works under different sat/vB environments. *( ideally, the minimum of UTXO should be at least 1M sat )*

#### ***How to create a watch-only Wallet?***

Go to `wallet info` to get the `Master Public Key`, or use the QR code to scan it *( use the phone offline to scan, then later back to online would show the Watch-only Wallet )*.



#### ***How to recover the fund and use it?***

Generally you can restore the funds in any Bitcoin wallets, but some could be quite tricky due to the derivation path, here is a [good source](https://walletsrecovery.org/) if you would like to learn more about it.

**And to make things simple the easiest option to restore is using Electrum again**: create a wallet — name it — Standard wallet —I already have a seed — enter the seed one by one, done.

***For nomads or travellers***

If you are traveling around like me, you might want to create a *small stash* for emergencies. In this case, using *Blue Wallet* to restore is pretty handy, you can easily restore it on your phone.

*How:* 

Open Blue wallet — click add wallet — choose Bitcoin — HD SegWit ( BIP 84 Bech32 Native ) — import wallet — enter the seeds and done.



But my favorite way to restore wallets is with *Sparrow Wallet*, it's a really powerful wallet. Not only do I get to choose which UTXO to spend, but controlling the fee better. Maybe I would write a more detailed article on how to restore each type of wallet with *Sparrow wallet*, as it solves many problems.

### **Extra Reminders** 



\- Always make **backups** of the seeds, at least 3, and in different ways.

\- Do more tests until you are comfortable with what you are doing. 

It took me more than one month and many tests to know what I was doing, and I used small sats to do the tests, from start to finish — how to create  —  how to restore — how to spend, then think about each step and how can do better, and how to recover the fund when in an emergency.

\- As for **how to cross borders** in general

`Ideally, you make it in a way that only you are able to decode your seeds`, even if it's in text, e.g., you can use 10 words to write a story and use your mind to remember the rest of two...or make it half in poet, another half in articles online, madness is plain sight is the way. 

**Freedom means self-responsibility and the fact that you can cross any border with 12 words in your mind and no one can take your money away is so empowering, and making your own cold wallet is definitely one of the highlights.** ✨

How to MAKE your own Cold Wallet 🕶️

If there's one thing we need right now it's another survivor pool. I've been wanting to do this one since we did the [In-Season Tournament Survivor Pool](https://stacker.news/items/340815/r/Undisciplined), though, so here we are.

Ms Bubble the Rabbit woke up, feeling cheerful. She taught a class of little animal angels at MoonLight Sanctuary. Her students was having their first Spelling Bee competition today! A wave of excitement swept over her being. She wondered which of her students would win the competition.

She rushed to her classroom. Her angels were already waiting for her. Bright grins plastered on their faces, they were chatting animatedly among themselves. The chatter died down as everyone looked at her expectantly.

Without hesitation, she announced the first word: “billion”. The animals immediately scrubbed furiously on their whiteboards. One by one, they raised their whiteboard.

“Little Elephant,” Ms Bubble asked the young elephant who was rocking her trunk to and fro, “How do you know the spelling of ‘because’?”

The animals laughed. What a clever way! They waited for Ms Bubble to call out the third word, and she did. It was “disappointed”.

There was an [episode](https://fountain.fm/episode/WHhuNJdsEpVx0Nklebqx) from the Bob Murphy Show several years ago where Bob raised what he considered particularly difficult questions for libertarians. At the time, I of course gave some quick thought to how to answer them, but I never wrote anything down. I always meant to, though.

I think Stacker News has a great format to attempt to answer these questions as a series and the ~libertarian territory is the place to do it.

Today, I'm just going to lay out the questions. Then I'll attempt my answers and related thoughts one at a time over the next couple of weeks. Some of these were hard to word succinctly, because Bob gives long elaborations on his podcast.

## The Questions

1) Is there a similarity in the way many libertarians dealt with their false price inflation predictions after the financial crisis (2008) and how climate activists often deal with false predictions about climate change?

2) Does Hoppe's Argumentation Ethics framework imply that animals have self-ownership?

3) Does Argumentation Ethics imply that everyone is entitled to enough land to have an argument from?

4) For libertarians who subscribe to the evictionist view on abortion, do you think it would be legal in a libertarian society to throw child stowaways off of ships in the middle of the ocean or would some other legal principles enter in?

5) If someone has fallen off of the roof of an apartment building you live in and they're precariously hanging just outside your window, should it be legal to not allow them into your apartment when they'll likely die otherwise?

6) If the God of the Bible exists, wouldn't he be the owner of the entire universe by standard homesteading arguments?

7) For libertarians who spend time making fun of conspiracy theorists, why do you do that?

8) For Gary Johnson supporters, were you mostly arguing that he was the lesser of three evils and wouldn't that imply people should just vote for the lesser of the two evils that actually have a shot?

9) When it comes to talking about whether or not "the rich" pay "their fair share" in taxes, why do libertarians focus on the nominal amount the rich paid, rather than actually analyzing the tax incidence like we do for other issues like tariffs?

10) Is "The Non-Aggression Principle" an odd name for something that considers a child stealing a pack of gum "aggression", but two MMA fighters nearly killing each other not "aggression"?

11) If you're into libertarian philosophy and you're a minarchist, what the heck is wrong with you?

12) Do you think people might be opting for the cultural right, instead of libertarianism, because so many libertarians seem to side with the people normalizing "minor attracted persons" and other sexualized behavior directed towards children?

13) Since libertarians are not collectivists, shouldn't we stop complaining about how "the media" or other collectives are "acting"?

14) Should libertarians use the term "corporate press" or "corporate media" to disparage the legacy outlets, since we don't generally have a problem with corporations?

15) Similar to how a professional athlete doesn't despair for humanity's lack of athleticism, should libertarians go a little easier on people for not being at our level of understanding the depravities of the state?

Wow! There are more of these than I realized, so I guess this will have to be a daily effort. In my posts answering each individual question, I'll clip that part of the episode to make it easier to follow along. I'll also provide a bit more of the context of the questions.

Let me know if you have any preliminary thoughts about these questions. My plan is to put all the posts and any valuable insights I pick up from the comments together into one piece and send that off to Bob. Maybe, I'll be able to lure Bob over to SN in the process. 

Bob Murphy's Tough Questions for Libertarians

A few weeks ago, some of us here in what has become Stacker Sports Territory started using [freebitcoin](https://freebitco.in/?r=51325722) for placing micro bets on NFL games. It took me a little while to fully understand the betting system used on the site, but once I did, I realized it's possible to get better-than-fair odds on the site.

**Pooled Betting with an Early Wager Bonus**
I know the promise of better-than-fair odds sounds like a scam, so I'll explain their model and why it works. In contrast to most sportsbooks, freebitcoin is not setting odds for events. Rather, they collect bets on all possible outcomes of an event into a pool that will be divided amongst those who bet on the right outcome. It's from that pool that the site takes its payment.

If the site takes a payment, that must mean the expected payouts are worse than fair, right? Well, on average, yes they are worse than fair. However, the site offers a bonus for those who place bets early. They use a mechanism like that because otherwise there would be no incentive to place early bets and they need early bets to make the pool more attractive to potential betters. I haven't worked out the precise cutoff, but bets placed within a few hours of an event being posted have a sufficiently high bonus to generate a positive expected return on bets placed.

**Risk Balanced Odds Arbitrage**
So, how do you take advantage of this better-than-fair feature? If you just bet on the outcome you expect, that might be what everyone else does too and there ends up being no upside to the bet. Many times, I've seen the current expected "odds" (payout ratio) swing wildly, such that I wished I had placed a bet on a different outcome than I did.

This is where we can appeal to outside information. The major sports books have done the work to set as accurate of odds as possible with the information available. By translating those odds into a percentage likelihood of each outcome, it's possible to bet in such a way that if the freebitcoin odds end up resembling the sports books, then every outcome will yield a net positive return. Specifically, you divvy up your bet in proportion to the odds of each outcome.

Thus far, the RBOA method has yielded a positive return in each of the past two NFL weeks and for about 20 soccer matches. Going forward, I'll make a post with RBOA suggestions whenever new events go up on the site.

1. **create your own binary markets**

On the main page, you can immediately see a button to create a new market. You'll need to login with lightning though. You can use any LNURL-auth capable wallet for that. LNURL-auth is independent from which network is used for transactions :)

For now, you can only create binary markets. This means that you can only bet on events which outcome is either `YES` or `NO`:

2. **trading of YES and NO shares**

Basically the heart of the market. As a market would be useless without trading, you can obviously create BUY and SELL orders for YES and NO shares. **Every order must be matched with an order of a different market participant.**

For example, if you want to buy 2 YES shares at a price of 70 sats per share or short: `BUY 2 YES @ 70 sats`, your order must match a `BUY 2 NO @ 30 sats` order.

The interface might still be overwhelming even though I iterated on it several times already.

The input labeled with `how much?` specifies how many sats you want to bet. With `how sure?` you specify the price per share since the share prices in a prediction market reflect what the market currently thinks how likely an outcome is (at least in theory).

3. **interactive order book**

To match existing orders easily, you can simply click on `PENDING` and a context menu will show - assuming it's not your own order, else it will show a button to cancel your order:

On click on `match`, you'll get redirected back to the order form but with prefilled values. If you submit this order, this will match the other order after payment. For example, if you click on `match` in the screenshot, you would get redirected to this order form with `BUY 2 YES @ 20 sats` prefilled:

4. **basic market stats**

On the `stats` page, you can see the total sats locked in the market (volume) and how many are on which side. `YES` 75% means that 75% of all sats were put into YES share which means that the market thinks that the chance that YES will win is 75%. However, tbh, I am not entirely sure if the chart works, lol

5. **withdrawal**

You can withdraw any sats you received via payout or canceling an order (you'll get a refund for any invoice you paid for the order) in your wallet:

6. **list of all invoices**

Not much to say here. Just a list of all your invoices with their status so you can pay them later or keep track of what you've done:

7. **list of all orders**

Similar to the invoice list. You can also cancel your orders from this list (and not only from within a market order book) by clicking on `PENDING` to show the context menu.

8. **market settlement**

If you created a market, you can decide the outcome of the market via a hidden `settings` page:

This is obviously not ideal and unlike what I initially mentioned: that the market creator (or me, as the site operator) would only be used as a fallback if the trading parties don't find consensus on the outcome. However, this idea didn't make it into the MVP.

If anyone even remembers, I also mentioned that I would be using HODL invoices to wait with settling the invoices until a counter party was found. If no counter party was found, their sats would get returned for free - no network fees. That also didn't make it into the MVP and I am no longer sure that's even something users would want since it trades UX for a potentially insignificant risk of having to pay the lightning network again for a withdrawal if you found no counter party.

Lightning Prediction Market MVP - delphi.market

That was a really exciting night of basketball. The Heat/Bucks game was awesome. It seems safe to say that this tournament has been a big success.

Everyone made it through unscathed, so we still have six participants and only two have their first strike. Most of us still have four teams to choose from, which puts @elnosh who still has five teams in a pretty commanding position going forward.

I hope all the Americans are having great Thanksgiving weekends and everyone else is enjoying whatever they've got going on.

We had a bunch of close calls yesterday, but ultimately it was only @POTUS who got burned by the perpetually disappointing Clippers. That makes two people (also @gnilma) on the edge of elimination as we head into the final round of Group Play.

**Here's the slate for the final round, 11/28, before we enter the playoffs:**
