Where do you source your coffee from? Lite roasters?

Finally got the courage (and time) to deploy a lightning node. I did it all in my kubernetes cluster and I’m quite pleased. Now I can party!
Oh I also drained my binance account. That was quite overdue..

Cool, I did a video on LN on K8S: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tdI1nP_gCSY There's also one from openoms for the Galoy stack: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4BjADqwD9H8
reply
That is awesome! I will give that a watch tonight.
I'm actually using Galoy's bitcoind and lnd helm chart.
The whole process was quite pleasant. One thing I'd like to get around through is leader election in lnd at some point.
I used my co-worker's "app-template" [1] helm chart for lndhub and peerswap. Overall the process was very smooth.
It's still considered "overkill" to run a K8s cluster at home, but I find it lovely especially throwing some GitOps sauce in the mix. Nice to hear there's others.

donated sats to young underprivileged kids in my neighborhood

Not sure if this even ranks on the "cool" scale, but I can say how LN was very useful for me this past week.
I had some small amount remaining of a shitcoin in my custodial wallet on LocalCoinSwap after doing a trade. (Don't judge ... when you need to obtain fiat and the only Buy offer for your payment method is in a shitcoin, then you acquire the shitcoin to then be able to sell the shitcoin.)
The remaining amount was a little under one dollar but I figured I could just swap it into bitcoin using something like FixedFloat. But that small amount was actually below Fixed Float's minimum swap amount.
So I first went the other way -- using LN I sent to Fixed Float about $1 worth of bitcoin for a swap that added to my balance of the shitcoin. Then when that deposit of the shitcoin confirmed I then was able to proceed with my original intent -- withdrawing the balance of my shitcoin (an amount nearly $2) to FixedFloat for a swap into bitcoin (delivered by Fixed Float, via LN).
It was more work than I would normally care to do for such a tiny bit of funds, but the satisfaction of eliminating even that small balance of a shitcoin provided to me satisfaction. And it proved further to me the utility of LN.
The ability to transact instantly, and pay just a trivially low fee ... is something incredibly useful.

Did you use the Christmas Cards feature? Or just shared the link?
Thanks for the support by the way 🧡

I made a discord bot with LNbits to create "challenges". Challenges are questions about various topics where one can win sats for knowing the answer. The goal is to motivate people to learn more about bitcoin (or other topics) and to show what can be built using LN.
@NEEDcreations had the idea for this.
See this short clip for demonstration: https://youtu.be/8niktDseY-E
Any feedback is welcome :) There are definitely some problems with this approach but I hope this bot can still be useful after some iterations over the idea and design.
For example, people don't really know what question to expect. The topic should help with that but currently, I think it's too generic. But I also can't just show the question else they can google the answer beforehand. That's also why the timeout is there to prevent cheating by googling at least a bit.
A solution to this would maybe be that everyone can read educational content before accepting the challenge and then the answer to the question is inside the content which one was just read? Like a very small exam? But maybe that would then be too easy? I don't know.

I'm just trying this nostr thing, which client are you using?
reply
I'm all over the place, but mainly nostr.rocks and nostr.ch. I hear Damus is good,.but I'm an android guy.
reply
I can't find this damus on the apple store, I ca see the feed on nostr.ch, but nostr.rocks works different i guess.
reply
Nostr.ch is basically just a feed. You can't seem to follow anyone from the client, but it's a nice flow. Nostr.rocks is good to set up your profile and you can follow individual users by entering their public key. Anigma also is good, but slow. Anigma provides each user with a lightweight lightning wallet which I hope gets lots of use in the future.

Signed up to zaprite, created first invoice, enabled lightning payment via lnbits demo site, loaded my mobile wallet with some sats and paid the invoice. Flawless. Next step: get my own copy of lnbits, open up channels on my node and launch LN payments. The journey continues:)
