I will admit, I have been a bit critical of Nostr. While liking the ethos of it, it just seemed like a big circle jerk to me but Jeff Booth (as he often does) opened my mind.
Rather than seeing it as another (likely failed) effort at decentralized social media, I am now coming around to the idea it could be the base layer for all kinds of applications.
I should have learned my lesson, taking years- even after I owned it- to see the full potential of Bitcoin, but apparently not.
Not saying I am a hypernostrification maximalist yet but I am coming around.

NostrTube is a huge missing piece.
Not inherently Nostr related, but do you know what the difficulty has been in developing a LN alternative to YouTube? We have Fountain for podcasts, but nothing similar for video.

I think the next major fountain upgrade will be audio books. Seems like the team acknowledges that some people would like video. I've tried using bitcoin tv instead of youtube, but I havent run across anything that could be a decent competitor. Nostr fixes this

I hadn't even heard of bitcoin tv. I like Odysee, but it would obviously be improved if they replaced their internal shitcoin with LN.

I agree Nostr isn't likely a major threat to Twitter. 99 percent of people want a curated feed and don't themselves get banned. However, what else a decentralized relay protocol can do may be impressive. If absolutely nothing else, Nostr is introducing the idea of zapping real money to other entities, instantly, inside an app. But I think there is a lot more coming. Every day there is a new something with Nostr-- I can't keep up!

It's going to be a new client that innovates on the "dumb server" model but doesn't imitate what has been that will take off. We can't predict the app type, but it's clear from the pace of development that it's coming.

Because network effects are hard and usurping the network effects of existing players with a more difficult to use option is even harder.
Most people don't care about centralization or data privacy. Is that stupid, yes. Will they need to learn the hard way, yes.
I am hopeful. Things have gone better than I expected, which is why I am slowly changing my perspective.

Very possible that it fails but also possible it doesn't. I pretty much agree with you on Nostr. Thing is... it doesn't have to be adopted by everyone that is using social media now. It will be successful IMO if it works for the people that see the value. I despise this defeatist attitude about companies like FB, Google, and TicTok. We are so short sighted. I can see these companies failing or at least losing their market share. Maybe not in the short term but I believe it will happen.
