Being able to communicate an idea from one mind to another indirectly, through tiny lights (in an LED screen) or tiny droplets of ink (in a book), is really something incredible.
I wonder what will be the next step in terms of idea transmission between minds in the future
The cowboy hat has made me start tipping at least 100 sats a day. It reminds me of Fortnite skins. Do they give you an advantage in the game? Technically no, but everyone can appreciate a badass Fortnite skin who plays the game. Same goes for the cowboy hat🔥
You are correct but I'm happy to part with my money because what goes around comes around. You spread joy into the universe then you will have joy in your own life. If you share sats with people who you think are providing value then you will earn sats when you provide value. Yin and Yang bb
the difference is the cowboy hat is not promising you anything. simple and straightforward reward for engagement with the value4value system. get the black pill out of your system. Epoch V approaches
Something fishy happened...
I spontaneously got a cowboy hat.
I did not upvote anyone 100 sats.
But a 100.2 sat withdrawal appears in my history. What's up?
People can charge you prior to divulging information, however on some literal semantic level nothing has prices but prices themselves, and they only have the price they are.
I will study the methodology....
I may have to use bitcoin satoshi and energy)
the same information should be worth the same amount of time. for example, 1000 kwh.
SN provides a few free comments and posts for new users.
But there's no way for someone who is not a new user, and who has no sats, to be able to post or comment.
Would there be a way to do a Nutminer type thing, but for earning more of those "free comments / free posts"? If that were general (i.e., for earning sats), the difficulty would rise high as there would be competition from the general public trying to earn sats.
But when the "earnings" is only free comments and free posts on SN, well then difficulty would be lower and it would be more easily obtained. But that still requires work to be performed, and thus adding this likely will not create a spam/spammer issue.
The problem I'm trying to solve is where a person wants to post, or comment, and finds they don't have enough sats. And they don't have any easy way to acquire them. So rather than seeing them close their browser tab in frustration, they can instead go and "mine" a "free comment".
they could make a free twitter post asking bitcoiners to donate a few sats to the stacker news wallet. if they don't have "enough" sats to post or comment...what have they been doing??
It's simple. let it add 1 additional comment to the lightning when someone has rewarded you)) is not difficult and useful)))) will be consumed in turn.
We were already thinking about how to open up SN to more users without requiring an account. For example, this ticket is about allowing users without accounts to zap people on SN.
What do you think @k00b, @kr? I haven't thought much about how feasible to implement something like this would be but the first iteration could just require finding the right preimage for a specific hash without any difficulty adjustment.
To incentivize people to still spend sats (instead of "wasting their time"), any tips for these "mined posts" could go straight to SN / reward pool (or something completely different).
I agree with the problem. I don’t think the solution is mining but it’s not a bad solution.
Free posts/comments were an attempt to solve this but I think it’s executed in a mediocre way. We probably shouldn’t “remove them” and only show them optin greeters. Instead the content should probably just not be shown by default and anyone can click to reveal.

Now that subs are more widely support, perhaps a sub for that, ~free.
Where posts and comments are free. Not sure now a person could post "without requiring an account" , but it could be where a person could post something, get tipped, and then have funds to post (or re-post the same content) to ~bitcoin (or ~nostr, or any other ~sub).
It wouldn't even need to be a sub that appears in the list of subs, ... but something that a person would see when they go to post or comment and the error message offers that the post or comment can be added to the ~free sub instead.
