Let's say SN decides to expand the community into multiple communities/topics such as Reddit's sub-reddits, what are some communities/topics you would want to see on here?
A question/answer topic where newbs can get answers to questions (w/o being made fun of) i feel like this would be really cool with the sats tipping.
reply
I'm guessing you refer to a Bitcoin related Q&A topic? That would be a good addition.
reply
Would you charge people to create sub-topics?
reply
Interesting question, it would make sense to do it to prevent spam at least. Would love to see @k00b's take on this.
reply
Yeah, we were thinking the sub community would have to raise 10,000 sats or something a month to keep it going.
reply
lt would help to pay for servers, remember that there are no ads and no surveillance.
reply
Does this mean all subs collectively, or each sub would need 10,000 sats moving through it monthly or risk getting shut down?
reply
Each sub, but:
  1. it might be lower when we launch it
  2. this doesn't have to come from 1 user but as many that want to contribute to it.
  3. the contributors to the sub will get paid for running a successful sub ... and make all contributed sats back and then some
reply
I love that idea, since you are paying back users feels really weird, in a good gay. And paying to the admin of sub seems interesting.
reply
I see all the positives, and I'm on board. I just got a little freaked out at getting 10,000 for a sub right at launch. Maybe you could have a baked-in grace period of a month or two? (Point number one sounds like you've already thought of this)
Anyway, probably not a big deal, no matter what you choose. If a Stacker really believes in their sub then 10k is kind of nothing to invest.
reply
Coding forum would be cool. I'm nothing more than a hobbyist, but I learn a lot from lurking. And I've always got questions.
reply
As much as I would enjoy something more brainless and fun like an /MMA sub, programmer/coding is probably the best way to attract high quality posters and also mount an attack to usurp stackoverflow. Lucrative community as well.
reply
Honestly can't wait to see this implemented. Feels great to actually be around for something truly innovative while it's still relatively early. I'm usually just peripherally aware of stuff like this. For once I'm actually a participant.

I would love to see:

I think these technology subs you mentioned are pretty safe bets.
Other things that would be pretty safe are Q&A subs like r/askreddit or r/nostupidquestions etc. Or a meme channel - pretty much guaranteed to work out.
I personally would like to see subs that are a little further out. So we can draw new people into Bitcoin and not just draw from the preexisting Bitcoin/tech community. What about subs about fitness? Or cooking? Or wine/beer/whisky etc? Or sports?
reply
I agree, I would love a beer and a fitness community on here some time in the future. Now that sats and LN has been opened to normies through CashApp and Strike, it's easier to onboard them as well IMO.
reply
Beer and fitness. Here's a man with a life in perfect balance.
reply
haha, fitness in the morning, beer in the evening(on weekends). There is a way to enjoy both!
reply
Yes! I forgot about Privacy. Big one.

A book club / reading group where people pledge sats to read and comment on the papers listed at the Satoshi Nakamoto Institute (https://nakamotoinstitute.org/literature).
After some time, if people achieve their pledge, then the sats gets returned to original sender. Otherwise, if it's a no show, then the sats go to a charity/pool.
A similar idea can be done for fitness training or a new kind of university.

Language specific sub... I'd probably start with Spanish, and my native language right after that :P
reply
Chinese would be a cool one. Almost as important as Spanish, these days.
