Howdy there, partner! Welcome on into the Stacker Saloon.
Saddle on up to a stool and spill the beans about your day, fire away with them questions, or let loose and give us the lowdown on your wild and woolly life. We're all ears, so don't hold back!
We're open round the clock, so mosey on in whenever you please!
@k00b said he uses the weekends to focus on reviewing and merging PRs.
I think I'm going to focus on writing blog posts on weekends.
It's really motivating to hear from people like @Michelson_Morley that they found my blog posts very helpful :)
I even had to use them myself as reference sometimes already!

weekends are for deep works, few 😎

But can't everything be deep work?
reply
haha, I guess my definition of deep work is something meaningful for the long term because you are sacrificing weekends for the future when many people are default partying or resting.
But hey, do what makes sense for you:) For me, it's working during weekends + even Fridays; Mondays to Thursdays are the best days out exploring, especially Mondays, less crowded.

Now that BTC is pumping again, r/buttcoin have added a new rule:
  1. Any reference to crypto value in terms of fiat should ALWAYS BE IN QUOTES
Imagine being one of the founders who have been ragging on Bitcoin for +10 years now. The cope is real.

About Adverts

Not sure if this is the best place or maybe this thread is but FYI @kr...
  • As an advertiser, would it not be preferred when a Stacker clicks the title of the post (green arrow), to be taken straight to my website in a new window?
  • Adding an additional step (i.e. the current ad page) will decrease click-throughs substantially. I imagine it's like a 90% drop-off.
  • If it is clear it is an advert on the listing and people are clicking, I would want people to see the most amount of information possible, i.e. on my site. Clicking the comments could take people to this listing page (yellow arrow) if they are interested in what the community are saying. Or maybe this is just a configuration option.
reply
yeah there could definitely be an option to send a stacker directly to an external webpage instead of the comments section.
right now the ads are just boosts, and so they inherit the properties of regular posts. there are some boosters that fit the profile of an advertiser, but others are simply looking for more eyeballs on their Stacker News content. makes sense to build different options for each group.
reply
My thought being, if advertisers see great performance and click-throughs, they’re going to want to invest the “big bits” on SN.
Think we’re all used to the typical ad model now and so it’s probably expected behaviour for most of us.
reply
Great points! This is v0 of ads (we literally just hacked it in while we focus on other stuff) so hopefully we can incorporate feedback like this in future versions!

Been having such an intense and stressful week (sleep deprivation due to the baby girl waking up in the wee hours doesn’t help) that it culminated in a bursting headache…for 24 hours
Now, just grateful that the headache has receded and that it’s back to regular consumption of Stacker News

Howdy folks, hope everyone is having a nice end of the work week/start of the weekend. Fall is in full swing where I'm at and I'm all for it. Love the crisp weather and changing colors of the leaves.
I start a new job on Monday and I'm excited about it. Going back to the industry I have the most experience in after taking a slight detour to work at a startup. Glad to be back in the saddle, being laid off is no fun. I'm most stoked about regularly stacking corn again with a steady paycheck.
Good vibes to all.

Sounds like life is going up 🆙 for you. Keep at it!

Thank you, I certainly will! Life is full of ups and downs but we control how we approach it all. Determined to stay optimistic and make the most out of things regardless. Cheers!

Howdy! Good luck with starting the new job!

Thank you! Excited about turning the page and starting a new chapter. Optimistic about the end of the year and 2024! Cheers!

My push notifications are getting disabled on iOS PWA much faster lately. I’m pretty sure I enabled them yesterday and I re-enabled them just now. Much faster than the week we were seeing earlier
reply
It also could be that I had terrible service today, lots of duplicate notifications showing up and other oddities. I'll keep an eye on it
reply
I've had the opposite experience and haven't lost my notifications subscription for at least a week.
Maybe the bug is related to connection issues?!
reply
Could be? I’m really not sure. It’s so weird

Howdy peeps!!! The weekend has begun, just a last push on this Friday, make sure you take some time off the charts, graphs, reports, etc. and get some pampering and relaxation, you deserve it my friend, get yourself a treat or go do something you love doing, for me it will be a nice steak, baked potatoes and a salad..the day recommends a nice cold beer, why not, perhaps two. Maybe go to the beach and enjoy the view and a dip. Recharge my friend. We need to have the energy for next week, we've got this. I wish you all a phenomenal weekend and lots of good vibes. As always, you are important and you matter. Keep on keeping on. Be well and stay frosty!!

Does anyone know why someone would pay $30,000 for a BTC?
reply
Know that in the long run, those 30k are FIAT and will be inflation that kill the purchase power.
reply
Because it's good money. Why would someone pay $2,000 for an ounce of gold?

I'm trying to find something via search function here on SN, but failing. It was a post by someone early on in SN history where they made a website kind of tutorializing aspects of the Lightning Network, along with interesting visuals as learning aids.
If that was you, or if you know what I'm talking about and can link me to it please pipe up! ;)

Yes was a post by @CarlBMenger

If it's not in the guides written by @Darthcoin, or the ones written by Lopp I'd be very surprised.

Lol. What flavor pie?

Raspberry cream. Yummy. They give you one with your admission ticket. Don't lose it.

You can have my ticket. I'm not much of a pie eater, Lmao.

You say that now. Just wait...

Lol. I've never had a cake flavor pie. Isn't that just a cake then?
reply
I typed it wrong first, wanted to write "pie flavor" (edited it now)

Lol, ok. Just so you know, I like pie flavor pie ;)

Better to be that way. It is pretty laughable that people think everything is in peoples best interests right now.
Going too get more tricky to decipher truth from fiction. Easier then to categorise it as entertainment
reply
I think its because politics have become comedy show. I can't take any politician serious anymore. They are all just a bunch of lying leeches.
reply
I think most of us here have felt that way for a long time. Maybe what I find entertaining is that suddenly my normie friends seem to be realizing it too.

Hi @nemo, they aren't stacking/ investing savings. It's their necessity to switch as everyone else has because their money lost value. But giving same logic to transition where no one else uses BTC doesn't fit right. I know somebody has to start it, but as most of the spineless people in world, I'm not leader, I'm part of crowd when it comes to money. I already tried getting some bitcoins, but given its
  • volatility
  • need of internet
  • security and technical issues
I still think it aligns well with riches starting from miners till whales
It is amazingly useful though for people in like Cuba but still adaption is hard, Its again rich and techy in Cuba who transited. Also, ElSalvador tried it, similar fate. I'm not against bitcoin, but portraying it is the one and only best solution w/o debating abt downsides is my greatest issue.
