When I first learned about Bitcoin in 2013...it's painfully vivid.

Was on the highway inbetween cities on a drive back home with my family. Mid afternoon, watching the grass fly by me outside of my window.

I can't remember why we were talking about real estate at that time, but nonetheless my father was talking about how he heard of this new technology called the "blockchain" that can "intermediate the payments between real estate brokers and home buyers, without any need for the brokerage!"

Bitcoin wasn't even part of this conversation.

It was vague head nods and a "huh, cool! I wonder how that works." "I don't know, but apparently you can use it for any payment, not just real estate." "Hm, the government and banks probably wont allow that though right?" "Yeah, probably, but it's a cool idea!"

-- and then the conversation drifted elsewhere.

Knowing how life is now...sigh..

the only moment I truly remember is 9/11. Which is probably similar for a lot of people here. I was walking from first period to second when the kids in front of me were talking about hearing about a plane crash in NYC. When I got to class the world was different. I was at a military boarding school with people from all over the world.

no lie i feel like i remember this exact headline too, saw it on my phone while on a walk out in the snow. Had just heard talks of it from a friend recently before then.

I even worked in a science/medical field and couldn't get it through to anyone how big a deal it might be, absolute morons, and with PhDs and Master's degrees.

And then the news finally gets to them, after however much manipulation, and they're down at CVS giving their 3 year old a vaccine that just came off the assembly line.

It was a mix of obliviousness, not wanting to offend Chinese people (I remember going to the r/wuhan_flu sub everyday until it was quarantined lol) and just utter disbelief that something big like that could happen, like Normalcy Bias.

Needless to say I was a bit flabbergasted that everyone there was basically just waiting for the news (and W.H.O.) to tell them what to do, and they call themselves scientists.

9/11 I was representing a driving while intoxicated client. The courtroom was locked. A guard came out and told me to come in and to send my client home. I then sat with a group of cops, watching the news. We all watched the second plane hit. At that moment, they all leaped up and left, leaving me alone. Frightening. I just wanted to get home to my wife and infant daughter.

First broken bone. Fractured my left ankle at 12 requiring 2 screws.

As far as information memories, probably when I was halfway through Atlas Shrugged and realized my model of fairness and governments was all wrong.

I was sitting on a curb outside of SaveMart on my lunch break. I'd keep the copy in my apron often using store receipts as a bookmark. It was spring turning to summer and the days were getting longer but early evenings were still cool and in twilight.

It's a print of Not Guilty by Jose Manuel Capuletti who apprenticed with Dali.

It's really hard to find his prints, but he did a run in the 1970s and I gambled on this one on Etsy. It appeared like a partial/damaged print but the framer's original tape had just come loose.

Let me try and counter that with an awesome memory:

Witnessing my first (and only) total solar eclipse. Weeks of planning ahead for the event. A friend even drove all the way out to the "perfect site in a deserted area" to see if we'd be able to camp there from the day before, as the eclipse was to happen early the next morning. (Google Earth wasn't a thing back then, btw.)

On our arrival there a few days later, we discovered the whole area cleared and practically taken over by NASA! We managed to find a spot to set up camp, though.

The eclipse was awesome. Well worth the effort.
