Inspired by this post from @0xbitcoiner, it was a really nice thought experiment to think what the REAL problems need to be solved when you are in the surviving mode.
The first stage - safety, food and keeping warm.
It seems the base problems that needed to be solved are axe - safety, pot - food&drinks, and clothes for keeping warm; Yet modern society pretty much handled these for us, and all you need to do is BUY, yet with trashy quality, so I think working into these basic things is a good direction for any Bitcoiners, either figuring it out yourself by doing like @DarthCoin building his own citadel, or pilling the makers who still got those old knowledge - making things with simple tools and natural things instead of cold machines with chemicals, or even better learning from them and make better things, that's sort of what I'm doing, the goal really is to have enough skills and being self-sufficient, then trade what you lack with others, instead of being useless and forced to sell your time for money and then keep buying.
The second stage - keep improving and learning.
Once you figure out how to survive, you have more time to do and learn something else, maybe learn more skills, start to draw, or have small creations. ( this is the time when you have the luxury of reading books to absorb the information from others πŸ‘€@0xbitcoiner )
The Third stage - thriving and keep crafting.
Adding more beauty and meaning to life, maybe with better food, music, and art, creating beautiful and meaningful things with all the time that you have now that you feel safe and well-fed, and people trading with each other with better things, Bitcoin is good tool for exchanging value.
Later stage - passing down knowledge.
AND HAVE FUN! Never forget that. Every day you smile, is a day you will live longer.

that why I'm hanging in SN to have fun!

With stupid old guys! (I speak for myself)
reply
old guys know better how to laugh. Younger ones are busy with stupid shit.

There is a tendency for this to be true, but age is not a guarantee of knowledge. I know many people who are quite old and leave much to be desired. :)

Some people don’t have 65 years experience on the planet.. they have 1 years experience 65 times.
Live AND learn people!

age doesn't matters πŸ‘€
but the old ones trend to share many wisdom.

You speak for us both lol

Shelter, fire, food, water. Continually refine until they are sustainble. Then develop skills. Everyone forgets about a positive attitude and skills acquired in the past.

Yes is a good series. You will learn a lot from it. But try to do it yourself, in stages. Is fun and you will experience good things about yourself.

I still remember making my first bow drill and getting that first ember… actually quite life changing. Self-reliance (like responsibility) is clearly unfashionable these days.
reply
I haven't watch it yet, good?
reply
Is good, but is quite long. And is for real, no script. One guy once won the challenge but he didn't want to go back home. The producers took him with force out. He wanted to stay longer because he started to thrive.
reply
There was a guy who had a lot of smoked fish, but he was so skinny that the doctors took it away. He was in saving mode and it screwed him over.
reply
maybe "home" feels like a cage when you got those skills and want to be free.
reply
Yes, exactly, I think he said something like that. Worth watching that episode.

I really enjoy this show, and it doesn't seem as staged as 'Naked and Afraid'...
My favorite was the one with Rolands... Rock House. They also have some really good female survivalists on the show. If you're into this kind of thing, it's definitely worth watching.

There are some good gems in there. People need to take heed that even with the knowledge, equipment and an idea of what to do - things can turn against you and you still make stupid mistakes which compound and can hurt your chances. These shows demonstrate that quite well.
reply
Couldn't have said it better myself, you're right.
reply
almost feels like we were bring trained to be a useless person, and now need to go back to stack even the basic skills.
reply
You can learn fire-by-friction in an afternoon, basic tool use and shelter and cordage from natural materials in another. People don’t even know where their food is from so they are useless. Bear Grylls makes it look easy rubbing sticks together and drinking his own pi55 - long term survival in a harsh environment is hard.
And you have to develop relationships and have some tradeable skills rather than stealing or taking - in its simplest terms; I wouldn't want to perform an appendectomy on myself but i can make an axe and trade it with someone who can.

yes - building the solid foundation with the basic skills, then master certain tradeable skills while finding the honest and humble craftsmen you would like to get what you lack!
and stacking good relationship with like-minded people too.

We are dependent on consuming… not creating
reply
yes, because buying is easier! and working in a 9-6 job is also easier, so do what you are told, get the money then to consume is like the easiest path to walk, with an imaginary safety, yet deep down you're stuck, without any real skills to survive on your own.
also keep being taught that it's difficult to create, everything is actually a mind block! and now that I've being shown that it's possible to make things with simple materials, amazing!
reply
Learning skills takes patience and humility - it’s hard - like Bitcoin and that’s why people don’t do it.

What do you think I was doing in this image?

It looks like you're preparing for the end of the world :) These look like containment walls...

LOL this meme is funny, looks like I am coming with the axe to kill you both, like in a horror movie. And you said to Natalia: "don't worry I can protect you with the book (maybe some magic spells) and the stone hatchet" πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚
reply
πŸ˜‚ A book and the knowledge that comes from it can be a very powerful weapon. Don't underestimate it.
