Howdy there, partner! Welcome on into the Stacker Saloon.
Saddle on up to a stool and spill the beans about your day, fire away with them questions, or let loose and give us the lowdown on your wild and woolly life. We're all ears, so don't hold back!
We're open round the clock, so mosey on in whenever you please!
I noticed a fair few people are posting their pushups here so figure might as well do the same in case anybody wants to support the cause or in case I happen to inspire someone to join. Am also reporting my pushups in the X group by https://twitter.com/OtherBarryBTC Day 66 of the #100aDayTil100k challenge, sets breakdown: 4x25 normal/narrow 3x11 pike (Day 170 of 100+ pushups per day in total; day 69 of 120+ pushups per day) So I started 100+ pushups on October 15 2023 with the initial goal of doing it for 7 days. As it was surprisingly easy, I kept going. Did you know that y acts as a part-time vowel?
  • This is how you always win the game Hangman. You pick a word with no vowels such as Rhythm, and you’ll pretty much win all the time
  • Lots of words you can use: Myth, Rhythm, My, Hymn, Gym
  • There is a a, e, I , o, u, … and sometimes y 80s song by a group named Freeze: https://youtu.be/_x0PJWmE55A
  • Also note that in 90% of the time when the y is taking the place of a vowel, it means the vowels in the beginning are pronounced in the short sound as opposed to long sound
E.g: the a in candy/ the i in silly / the o in phony

Let’s Learn about Ramadan
Turned info into bite-sized insights for my students today:
Ramadan
  • Occurs every year in the 9th month of the Islamic calendar
  • Muslims don’t eat or drink from dawn to dusk
  • They are reminded of the plight of poor & starving people
  • Muslims in Singapore flock to Geylang bazaar to shop for Hari Raya Puasa (aka Aidilfitri) celebrations
  • Get a henna design. Henna is a reddish-brown dye obtained from the leaves of the henna plant. Girls and women love to stain their fingernails with the dye and have beautiful intricate patterns drawn on their hands.
  • Enjoy Iftar, a meal that Muslims eat after sunset. They gather at mosques to tuck into the food.
  • Wear matching-coloured baju kurung to go visiting on the 1st day of Hari Raya.
  • Make popular kueh like pineapple tarts, kueh lapis (layered cake) and bahulu (a type of sponge cake)
  • Explore food bazaars. Some popular foods include vadai (a savoury fritter snack), kebab (meat cooked on a skewer and wrapped in pita bread) and Ramly burgers (greasy egg-wrapped patties).
I later asked my Muslim students more questions and arranged their insights in the form of a mind map. Mind mapping is a good tool to recall & retain information!

not necessary, can be at anywhere you choose, e.g. home or restaurants.
I think you mixed quite a lot of the local habits into the introduction, maybe "Let's Learn about Ramadan in Singapore" is better.

But this means you can set a trend!

making your own clothes is like cooking - first, you need to think about what you want to eat/ make, then you find the freshest material/fabric you can possibly find, ideally you can even see how it's being grown/weaved, and then you cook/ sew them in a way you like. πŸ‘€
why ppl are so used to ordering takeaway/buying already made from outside? And the worst part, being fed poisons/ polyester with chemicals.
reply
Applying heat to food seems so much more intuitive than however the hell clothes are made, though.

found a hidden restaurant tonight, SO delicious, real homecooked food from Turksih mum! I then asked the owner how to make that carrot salad, how on earth is this delicious! After the meal, I saw a family trying to take family photos, I offered to help so that everyone at their table could be in the photo and then they were really happy and ask taking the photo with me too πŸ˜‚ ( awkward...)

Good morning and happy Easter stackers.
Day 63 of 100 push ups till $100k completed.
Finally went to watch Dune part 2 with my wife last night. I enjoyed the movie, but I still prefer the book much more. The movie lack a lot of character development. Also the book explains many things in much more detail, which they could not do in the movie. But overall, the movie wasn't bad and I think it's a decent adaptation.

Same here! It’s only when I lived in Japan n interacted with Caucasians that I realised how eating too much rice might cause diabetes haha. So do the Portuguese eat rice every day or it is just you?
reply
It's not just me. Here in Portugal, rice and potatoes are the staple foods πŸ˜‚ In 2023, the average Portuguese person ate 16 kg of rice, which is 4 times more than the European average. I think this has to do with Portugal's long-standing relationship with Japan πŸ˜‚

so happy yesterday! I went ALL the way to find a weaving master in a remote village, after figuring out how to get there, and I walked around almost the whole village, but I still couldn't find her. Google Map is not working well here at all, also fun fact: no banks here, only a small ATM in the whole village! People used to just trade things with each other, and I really admire how women are so skilled in these villages, they do EVERYTHING themselves.
But then I was lucky enough to find another weaver on the way and she patiently explained to me how each motifs means, and it turned out that people invented the motifs so to say this product is produced where! so creative, it's like a "trademark" but beautifully integrated into the fabric, and now it tells the history and stories behind it. πŸ₯
And then, I found a place to have tea and rest a bit, I thought to myself how am I going to find her? I then decided to try my luck by asking the shop owner any chance if she knew her; I assumed that everyone knew everyone here, and YES! The crazy part is the owner then said the drink was on the house and even walked me to find the lady I was searching for, and yay, I found her...I felt like I had entered heaven or something, so many hand weave beautiful fabrics ( now wait for what I will make! ), and then because I was supposed to leave in 20 minutes, but long story short, it ended up her son driving me home, the master even invited me to her house to have some delicious drinks that she made, and wow, it is made with flowers, so delicious!
captured this moment when I was over excitement.
thanks for reading @Natalia live time adventures, TBC. πŸ‘€

I'm not sure where you are, but it seems to share a lot of similarities with Portuguese traditions. Weaving looms were also very common here, but now they're all in museums and only a few elderly women know how to use them. It's a shame...
reply
Anatolia! That's why I'm going all the way to the villages, thanks to modernization destroying the traditions.
weaving looms were one of the household tools here, and women used to weave and sew their own clothes, and you still get to see these in some remote villages:)
