pull down to refresh

Happy Easter everyone. Wish everyone is having a great Easter so far. It's been a busy Easter Sunday for myself, starting with a 15km morning run with my wife, followed by a fun egg hunt with our kids. Then we went to see a Lego exhibition with some really cool large and elaborate custom Lego sets and scenes. As such, this week's hiking post got pushed further and further back. I finally got some time to type this out, but need to make this a quick one, because I still got a bunch of chisels to sharpen... So let's get right into it.
This week, I would like to bring us to the Bear's Hump Trail at Waterton Lakes National Park. This is a relatively easy out and back trail that is 2.4km long with 217m elevation gain. The trail starts off relatively flat but quickly becomes steep and goes through a series of switch backs. As you gain some elevation in the trail, you can begin to see the Prince of Wales hotel and the surrounding lakes to your left. There are also benches along the way for hikers to take a break while admiring the view. This trail was one of the first trails that my youngest son (3 years old at the time of hiking) hiked to the top all by himself. I still had to carry him down in the carrier though.
My little one taking on the hike on his own.
There were some forest fires nearby on the day we did our hike, so our view was slightly obstructed by a layer of smog and haze. The viewpoint at the top is a rocky bluff that boasts the views of the nearby town in the national park, surrounding lakes, and even distant lakes and mountains in the United States, as Glacier National Park of Montana is directly south of Waterton Lakes National Park. But we were unable to see too far into the distance when we got to the viewpoint. However, the views were still beautiful even with the smog.

Looking south, towards Montana, but can't see far due to forest fire smog.

These are indeed great experiences for our family. I'm glad my wife got into hiking and forced us to go on all these different hikes.
