Howdy there, partner! Welcome on into the Stacker Saloon.

Saddle on up to a stool and spill the beans about your day, fire away with them questions, or let loose and give us the lowdown on your wild and woolly life. We're all ears, so don't hold back!

Has anyone seen @kr? It seems he hasn't posted for a few days and he's not even listed as a contributor anymore. Did I miss something?

reply

I have noticed others have been missing too

reply

He's stepping away from SN. 😢

I was hoping to do something more formal before anyone noticed, like a 100k sat salute, but nothing gets past the Stackers.

reply

I saw the commit to remove him from the footer but figured there would be some kind of announcement at some point. I did briefly share the commit in the dev chat but quickly deleted it because I didn’t want to be nosy

reply

Good on you :)

reply

Oh he will work for Coinbase and Lightspark ? Make sense.

I noticed his podcast updates slowed as well. Hopefully kr is all good

reply

Oh wow. End of an era.

reply

He's still an investor and will let us mine his marketing/growth genius. He'll just be dancing in the background.

reply

We'll miss him. He was a great stacker. I'm sure you guys will miss him too. I guess we'll just have to listen to his podcast more frequently.

reply

Dang well I hope whatever he’s up to he knocks it outta the park! Since I’ve joined he’s been pretty amazing with his posts!

reply

I'm sure he will. Don't sleep on kr.

reply

Never even thought about it for a second!

There are plenty of dummies on SN but the ratio compared to other sites is much lower. Was on Reddit looking at something and wow are the comments dumb, low IQ nonsense.

I really appreciate the stackers

reply

It really is astonishing how much better this community is.

Considering how toxic social media has become, is it hyperbolic to speculate that @k00b may have saved the world by creating Stacker News?

reply

I remember how bad the r/cryptocurrency Reddit got when people started hella farming before Reddit pulled the plug… it had been pretty decent till moons blew up and immediately straight to the trash can. Not sure if it ever rebounded cause I couldn’t be bothered to deal with their BS anymore

reply

Reddit does have a lot of content, though.
Just have to try not to read the comments.

I deleted all my Reddit content and then account going back 12 years I think.

reply

Yeah tomorrow I plan on using that software/strategy that was posted a few days ago about deleting it! Fuck Reddit and its data collection!

reply

Yeah. I still go there sometimes for niche questions and for some pop culture analysis, but I haven't actually gotten into a discussion there in months, and I wouldn't even dream of looking at communities like r/bitcoin these days.

It used to be the case that you could receive from lightning (or send to on-chain can't remember) for free or for very few sats.

But lately I've seen that it charges thousands of sats basically with any operation.

It is a great wallet nonetheless but I'm a bit curious about this as I haven't followed the development in detail.

I was watching a podcast and the guy on there said that all he did to market his business was create an irresistible offer, create a post with a link to a trello board and then he watched his customer base grow! I am going to try it because if it works - how many hours will it save me trying to figure out how to "properly" market myself???

Sounds like a low cost idea to try

I read this morning that men (can I still use that term?) carry DNA data in their sperm. The US government has announced that they will soon require a money transmitter license before any sperm is transferred in any manner.

reply

Honestly surprised you dont have to apply for a child license to have a kid. You need one to own a dog in the US

reply

Valid question

reply

Good one! 👌

But don't worry, the day will come when this will happen. 😉 😂😂

reply

Not trying to be snarky here, but is this news? Everything I know about both science and law comes from watching CSI, I just assumed we carried DNA.

reply

Of course. I was joking, obviously. It would be pretty tough to pass on genetic characteristics otherwise. That's what makes these government enforcement theories ridiculous.

reply

And that's why I need to drink more coffee before diving into SN.

reply

I always have two cups of coffee before diving into SN,! Sometimes it's hard for me to know when stackers are joking too.

reply

Actually, it's my fault. I worded it poorly. Also, I think because of my age I'm still lacking in the nuances of texting. In face to face communication it's much easier to express whether you're joking or serious. My daughter tells me that some people put a /s to indicate sarcasm, or a JK. I just can't get used to this.

reply

Heh. Whereas my daughter has explained to me that I should stop using the /s in most situations. I think it's one of those small things digital natives truly get, while those of us who are digitally comfortable but not native miss.

reply

The first thing I did after Samurai was go out and get my license, for just that reason.

reply

I was going to respond that in order to avoid any unauthorized transactions I watch a video of one of Elizabeth Warren's senate speeches, but I thought that might cross the line.

I was going to make a joke about you being too old for unauthorized transactions, but it seemed pretty tactless.

ResidentResident

The most common understanding of this word is as follows: “the act or fact of dwelling in a place for some time”.

However it also refers to the act or fact of living or regularly staying at or in some place for the discharge of a duty or the enjoyment of a benefit.

The word “duty” implies an obligation which is to follow and accept legislation, and benefit is the outcome of said obligation if not followed, which is usually a fine.

This becomes more apparent when referencing The Black’s Law definition: “a tenant, who is obliged to reside on his lord’s land.” In short, a resident is without property rights. A Residence is not considered a fixed or permanent home.

OccupierOccupier

This title is often used in letters and unfounded notices sent to you in the mail. This is a legal term that implies occupier by virtue of a lawful contract, either express or implied, or even without any contract.

However if you have entered into a lawful contract then you will be notified by name, by the person you have the contract with, and not by the title of “occupier”.

Expressed contracts means intended contract requiring your consent.

Implied contracts are in fact implied service agreements, which attempt to enforce legal obligations to whoever accepts the title “occupier”.

Preparing for a job transition and getting fixated with left-field interview questions. Here’s one question contributed by @Satosora:

Do you like change?

My response:

I like to think of myself as adaptable and nimble, so I welcome change. I think the advent of technology often brings about new ways of getting things done more efficiently and effectively, so I’m happy to invest time to learn new tools to complement my teaching. For example, I love how technology, like Gemini and Magic School.AI, has quickened my lesson planning process. I also enjoy learning new ways of writing students’ remarks through the Appraiser App. However, I think change should not be introduced too frequently. Sometimes, especially for curricular materials and assessments, it is worth sticking by the same Scheme of Work or Term of Specifications for a 2-year cycle so that we can get a more complete set of data to ascertain their strengths and areas of improvement.
