Marine Le Pen's National Rally party secured a significant lead in the first round of the French parliamentary election, capturing 34% of the vote, based on exit polls. The left-wing alliance Popular Front followed closely, earning 28%.
Macron's government collapsing....

I am watching a Euro News feed. I'm shocked at how anti National Rally the coverage is. I'm used to MSNBC and Fox in the US, but this seems actually worse.

This is a big problem right now, everywhere. People only watching traditional media and those exposed to alternative, indépendant sources get completely different worldviews and cannot communicate with each other.

the mainstream media is dying a very quick death these days. they are losing double-digit numbers of laser users every year. the only thing keeping them alive are large donations and now also public funding
reply
They hate the Le Pen family
They hate her views and her party

Family? Maria Le Pen expelled her father, founder of the party, from the party some ten years ago.

Macron's government may be collapsing, but Macron is still standing. Such is France's multiparty system! Bardella doesn't criticize Macron and feels that Macron is more inclined to Right politics.
Interesting times for France!!

we know the principle: when they realize that they are not getting anywhere, they resign and let others clean up the mess they have made. then, when the crisis is not over, they come back with triumph and carry on as before

Macron term does not expire until 2027?

Exactly. But he could end totally isolated

France, Italy, Holland, Germany... nice to see the old continent is going back to their roots. Protect the citizen not the "collective"... Winds of change? (again)
reply
so far everything has been rather a disappointment, if you look at Meloni in Italy, nothing has changed. i think that many of these right-wing politicians are compromised. however they do it. Or Holland... nothing ever changes on the EUSSR
reply
If you look at the first outcomes the vote it’s been rural France vs Paris which is composed by socialists.
reply
@TomK, can you explain the Popular Front Party? I read that it's a coalition of smaller left wing parties. If these percentages hold up, National Rally would try to put together a coalition government with pieces taken from the left and Macron's party? Is that likely to succeed?
reply
this party is a party founded by LePens' father and is a fundamental French nationalist movement. Its basic orientation is to leave the eurozone and therefore the euro and the European Union. This would shake the overall structure so severely that we cannot estimate what would happen. Bit: the party rejects a coalition with the right-wing party from Germany, which again defuses the entire program. If what happened to Meloni in Italy comes to pass, it will be much ado about nothing. We will have to wait and see what exactly they do.

No, I'm talking about the liberal coalition party that was just cobbled together that finished second?
reply
oh, sorry. at the heart of the matter is that old European traditions, socialist reforms, minimum wealth tax, etc. are to be implemented. a typical European socialist program. with a French flavor, i.e. with an extreme left-wing orientation.

Who are the other right wing parties in France?

It's confusing, yes, especially because almost all traditional parties have been wiped out of the political landscape, and the void was filled by new parties/coalitions etc...
reply
but in principle everything remains the same! the new parties, including the established conservative parties, have absorbed the left-green socialist program and are pursuing it under their own banner, thus disappointing voters beyond the substance of their policies

The number one issue is immigration from third world and Islam Euro Arabia
Who are the Republicans in France or LR?

You have Reconquête, another right wing party, formed recently around a very polarising figure, Eric Zemmour. Zemmour was Le Pen biggest rival on the right but disappointed during the last presidential elections.
You also have several "souverainistes" parties, they are anti Euro/EU/Nato. Their views are still in the minority.
The National Rally has moved further to the centre, to attract more voters, and "improve" its image. It's working hard to distance itself from the extreme right, this is why at the EU level, they won't form a coalition with the German AfD, and at the national level, I don't see another coalition with the aforementioned right wing parties.

According to the latest updates, the far-right National Rally party led by Jordan Bardella has emerged as the frontrunner in the first round of the 2024 French legislative elections held on June 30[1][2][3][4][5]. The National Rally's strong performance, more than doubling its support compared to the previous election, has sent shockwaves through the French political landscape[4].
President Emmanuel Macron's centrist alliance Together for the Republic suffered a heavy defeat, reflecting growing discontent with his leadership[3][5]. The left-wing coalition New Popular Front also made significant gains, intensifying the competition for parliamentary seats[3].
The election results could have far-reaching consequences, potentially leading to the appointment of a National Rally prime minister and a power-sharing arrangement with Macron[3][5]. This scenario would mark a significant shift in French politics, with implications for the country's domestic policies, its role in the European Union, and its stance on international issues like the conflict in Ukraine[2][3].
The second round of voting is scheduled for July 7, and the final outcome remains uncertain[1][2]. However, the National Rally's strong showing in the first round has raised concerns about the potential rise of far-right ideologies in France[3][5].

Together is Macron coalition
Republicans won about 9 percent? I think they are right leaning
6 percent is other or miscellaneous

the worst thing about the right-wing parties in europe is that they are basically left-wing in structure. this is welfare state extreme only for locals. it's always about expanding state activities, regulating trade higher taxes, expanding social benefits for locals etc. Real right-wing or libertarian parties basically don't exist at all

The extreme left and right hate each other with passion. They will not form a coalition. I don't see it. The only potential coalition would be between the left and centre (Macron) The National Rally is still shun in French "polite society"

haven't you seen how the big cities in europe and their suburbs are now partly on fire? the welfare start of northern europe attracts these people and thus eats away at itself. these societies are systematically destabilized by illegal emigration. and this in the midst of the demographic catastrophe they find themselves in.

This seems a step in the right direction. Do you know who voted? Was it a majority of the younger generation taking the reigns?

from what we hear, younger people in particular are voting for the right-wing parties, just as they did in Germany recently. interesting trend, but I wouldn't overestimate anything for now. just wait and see what happens

Fast forward. If you watch her interviews over the last seven years or so, this is what will happen, it's already started....
France will leave the eu. They will have their own new currency. The USA will have trade deals with them as she is pro trump. They will trade in the future with Russia as many other Countries will re-kindle trading (no choice, energy). Trade will increase with India. They will cut into German exports of various goods.
however, minor detail.... There will be violence, more than now.
