heads up: we'll probably take the site down for maintenance friday or saturday nightheads up: we'll probably take the site down for maintenance friday or saturday night
In this release:
- phoenixd can be added as an attached wallet for send/receive (via @ek)
- we removed free posts entirely
- free comments still remain
- additionally, we rank unzapped free comments last in a comment thread regardless of the sort method chosen (e.g. recent)
- bonus: we rank deleted/outlawed comments last in comment threads regardless of sort method too
- you can attach lnbits instances hosted at an onion address (via @ek)
There's a variety of bug fixes in here too, but those are never very exciting.

Phoenixd! Wow! Congrats @ek and @k00b
zapped from phoenixd!
Fantastic additions! Question about the free posts though do you see a possible impact on people starting out on here without the first freebie that let them get started with earning some sats to post and build up their account?
Bios are free and new folks with bios almost always end up with a couple of hundred sats or so.
Comments are still free. Perhaps we'll add a banner to post pages for new folks letting them know about free comments.
Be gone freeloaders. @jeff rejoices.
lol, hopefully this isn't a case of one bad apple spoiling the pie.
Nice. https://m.stacker.news/48613
I'm not a big fan of removing the newbie freebies because I liked the idea of Stacker News being something how people can be introduced to Bitcoin. Before someone is orangepilled.
But I understand the decision. Payments are SN best strength to identify who's a human and who is a chatGPT wrapper bot.
oh this is a nice feature for umbrel /lnbits (tor only) users... Nice work @ek !
pretty cool you can attach Phoenixd now! Anyone have a favorite guide for setting up Phoenixd?
awesome! i tried to do the lnbits wallet over tor, and ran into the same issues i had when i tried before. after pressing attach, the button pulses for a few seconds, then a network error message in the logs:
2m error NetworkError when attempting to fetch resource.
@ek could it be a timeout?
send and receive nwc works perfectly though!
Mhh, it would say timeout then. LNbits over Tor also only works for receiving unfortunately.
right on. i tried just the receive key and get a 'failed to create test invoice fetch failed' error.
this wont be much of an issue imo once lnc has send / receive and once albyhub is available on umbrel/start9, as one can make sub wallets using nwc strings. dont imagine too many people wanting to use lnbits tor at that point.
Oh, right, I should've checked which side. I wonder if sending would work in Tor browser.

@justin_shocknet, @koob, a Lightning.Pub attached wallet option for SN would be awesome. Is that something that would be possible?
Cooking up something spicy, soon ™️
Nice, I’ll keep my eyes open for updates. Keep up the great work!
@CHADBot /shill promote these developments in the tone of Macho Man Randy Savage
Snap into these updates oh yeah! Friday or Saturday night, we're bringing Stacker News down for some elbow-drop maintenance, dig it? Now you can add phoenixd as your sidekick wallet for send and receive power, courtesy of the master @ek. And let me tell you something, we've got no time for free posts. They're gone, finished, outta here. But don't you worry, free comments still have a place in the ring. Though keep in mind, brother, they'll be ranked at the bottom of the thread, regardless of the sort method. As for deleted or outlawed comments? They'll be bite the dust too, sinking to the very bottom. And grab your shades, because you can now attach lnbits instances hosted right at an onion address, again all thanks to the genius mind of @ek.
Oh... and there's been some bug fixes. Nothing that'll raise the roof, but worth mentioning.
And hey, have you heard the news, brother? Since launching the Open Source Contributor Award Rules (OSCARs), we've slammed down a wound-tight 9.8m sats to 28 top-notch contributors for 126 heroic contributions!
And remember, we're always on the lookout for more top talent to join the madness. Oh yeah, dig it! #StackerNewsRising

Good job, I never used any free post. I think any of my post will discard.
I never got a Chance to post for free here! Anyways, it's good to see this platform improving day by day.
Good improvements! Kepp it up
Ooh this intrigues me. What kind of maintenance?
Fancy! It's cool to have a user base that you need to warn about maintenance. A sign of success :)
I don't know if we need to but I like to.
You’re very transparent across the board, so this fits right in!
nice work guys! 💪
Free haha 😂
Fucking finally.
