Would there be any value in creating a concerted effort to drive more traffic to SN? Maybe pick a day that we do a social media blitz or something? Personally I found SN because of a reddit post, and I definitely think there would be value in adding more traffic to this site.
Any thoughts?
Yes 100%. I am in.
Let's wait until after non custodial switch over and invite links are working again. Then we can load a bunch of invite links with 1000 sats to send via DM to interested parties.
reply
That's a really good idea!

I think @benwehrman is looking after SN social media accounts now. Maybe we can organize something with him and @k00b can kick in some sats for invite links (when working again). Community, digital, guerrilla marketing campaign is a great idea. Well done.

I will gladly finback a dm campaign.
reply
What's finback?
reply
When @k00b rides on the backs of sharks.
I think he means he will finance some sats loaded invite links for a community marketing campaign.

Yep, I meant it as shorthand for "financially back." I like to invent words sometimes.
reply
I got it there but I googled it and couldn't find the meaning. I thought that it might be a slang for financing back.
Only @k00b can ride on the backs of sharks!!
Thanks.

I think we should focus on quality people instead of just a mass of people.

I think you can strike a balance between quality and quantity in the way and places you market. We would have to be targeted anyways as we don't have infinite sats to spend on a mass marketing campaign.
reply
I guess that is true. Im just not a fan of inviting more assmilkers than there already are.
reply
That's my view too, but there are definitely quality people out there who haven't found their way to our little western utopia yet.
A concerted effort to draw in those folks might be worthwhile.
Another thought is that we could try to draw some of the folks who used to be active stackers back to the site. There are easily a dozen great former contributors who have wandered off.
reply
They have wandered off for a reason. Sometimes life gets busy. Eventually when they are ready, they will come back. We will all burn out eventually, its just a matter of time. How we deal with it is the important thing.
reply
Sure, but maybe some of them would enjoy what the site has become and they just haven't checked it out in awhile.

It is hard to get them back. I have tried on nostr with a couple older stackers that were featured in this day on SN. k00b did mention that some old stackers are still around but under different accounts now.
reply
Everyone has their own pace. Some might have outgrown SN.
reply
How would we message them? Even if we message with their stacker news address, if they arent checking it, it doesnt matter. That is the achilles heel of everyone having a nym and not knowing who people are.
reply
I'm thinking about people who you might interact with on nostr or have some other contact for.
I also don't want to flood SN with people, so these should be highly selected targets.
reply
I dont even use nostr yet. I am just enjoying my time on SN.
reply
Honestly, you're not missing much. There are a few people there who would make nice stackers, though.
I'm with you. I'm not opposed to a drive but also think it should be focused on people that fit with the community. Those that don't won't last anyway so what's the point?
reply
I am in also. Good idea. Any ideas you have are worth a try. There's no downside.
reply
I am NOT in favor of mass marketing campaign. That's shitcoining mentality. Better a natural, slow increment with good bitcoiners.
I am in favor of even more drastic selection of who is joining. That means a drastic selected list of members, based on each stacker invite link, given only to specific people, that deserve to be here.
I am really tired of finding shitcoiners on SN and call them out. Maybe you are not seeing my "cleanup task" useful now, but later you will always give me reason. Otherwise we will convert SN into another shithole reddit.
Good people only invite other good people. I will even go further and propose to have the invite links with a minimum 1000 sats. That will stop shitcoiners inviting for free other shitcoiners.
reply
Yes, I like this idea. But we should raise it higher. If it was 10k, then people wont be inviting people that will scam on here. They will have some skin in the game. I also think it should be in their profile who refers them.
reply
Focusing on quality would defiantly be a good idea. I don't think this planet needs another reddit.
reply
I like it but think of the timing.
Omega green candles and new ATH drown out all substance. Nonstop noise when that happens.
And we need a reason for ppl to join. @grayruby does survivor pools. Need something more than 1000 free sats to join.
What makes SN 10x better than the platform u reach them on?
We need to give away actual free things or offer free follows on nostr or something to drive a community aspect.
“Zap 10k sats for a post about your bitcoin story” for example.
reply
I think this is an excellent initiative, my friend @Aardvark. If more people join SN, it will allow us greater interaction and to see more points of view on all topics of interest.
reply
Generally when we know something good we want others to know about it and use it. But SN is not Twitter (X), Reddit or any other platform or social network that is used to gossip or kill time, in the same way that Bitcoin is not shitcoins.
Stacker News is something else, it is on a higher level, although it has things to correct.
I am more inclined to attract people who contribute with their knowledge and their hard work of research and analysis. Also not only attract them, but also to use the platform correctly.
So a campaign on SOCIAL NETWORKS just like that, I would not like. Mentioning and commenting on the platform in our Bitcoiner communities seems more logical to me.
Bitcoin is not for everyone, SN is not for everyone either.
