Bitcoin onchain could not go forward without LN.
And LN could not work without onchain.
Learn more about how blocks are mined and why sometimes there are big sequences of time between finding a block.

Yep. Also I think Bitcoin would still go forward without LN, but maybe slower. LN as a mean of payment, will bring a boost for Bitcoin and a quicker adoption.
But it still would have succeed for its others use cases IMO
But I agree that if widely adopted LN will help filling blocks and drive up block reward, allowing us to forget sooner than expected about this (stupid IMO) fear of empty block in 20 years.

Bitcoin without being used as MONEY is totally useless.
That's why LN is very important for Bitcoin.
