It's a Fiat mindset, I get it, old habits die hard. I don't have a definitive answer or a solution, I simply wanted to gauge the community's perspective. Is it accurate to say that the value of Bitcoin is directly tied to the inflation/deflation rates within the SN and trust-score system? Or am I misinterpreting this?
Absolutely, there are just masqueraders, no Bitcoiners. They say something and do something else. Where's 1 sat = 1 Sat now?
reply
I'm curious to know the exact number of people living exclusively on Bitcoin. A million? A thousand? Who knows?
reply
I doubt if there are even in thousands and there will ever be in our lifetime. This is a reality and we better accept it. The aim of Bitcoin wasn't as such to destroy fiat, rather it was aimed at enabling people hedge against fiat's devaluation.
Bitcoin is definitely a form of money but not a currency and it'd never be because a stable and easier to use will always be preferred. People first need to buy goods and services for necessity, then only they look at other aspects of money.

... and there will ever be in our lifetime.
too early!
reply
For how long is too early! Isn't it something that we're now growing old with?
I'm not a dev nor do I understand technology way too much but I'm a practical man and will say what I see. Right now I can see that nothing is sold with an MRP in Bitcoin.

The internet (TCP/IP) was invented 25 years before the first iPhone came out and put it into everyone’s hands

stackers have outlawed this. turn on wild west mode in your /settings to see outlawed content.

I don't know what you're trying to say. What do you mean by inflation? What do you mean by trust-score difficulty?
The trust system has only had two hasty iterations and hasn't been touched in well over a year and rewards, which I suspect you're using as a proxy, haven't been touched since we butchered them in March for MSM.

..., which I suspect you're using as a proxy, ...
I'm a little lost here. Can you break it down for me?
reply
What I mean is that with the increase in Bitcoin's value, it's normal for stackers to zap less frequently. Doesn't this make it harder to improve the stackers' trust score? I don't have data on zaps, but I think it doesn't even matter because it's just an adjustment mechanism. Regarding inflation, I'm specifically referring to the prices for posting and commenting. I know Siggy lowered the price in his territories, but in others, the value is low.

Trust is a distribution, ie assigned relative to other stackers, so it isn't effected by price.
Posting costs will likely remain high until we lower territory prices which I plan to do but need to finish some other work first. Is 1 sat for commenting prohibitively expensive?
reply
I interpreted the question as: with higher bitcoin price, is the average daily amount of zaps lower? (And is that somehow affecting the rankings, which I guess it wouldn't if it's proportional across all the stackers ' lower zapping behaviour)
reply
Yeah, I believe the idea is that trust is based on zapping the same things as other stackers, so if zapping becomes less frequent, then trust scores will grow more slowly.
reply
in fairness I did mean zap value but thinking about your answer, what you say makes sense.
reply
Ok, you should have meant what I thought you meant. I recall k00b saying that zap size doesn't factor into trust scores.
reply
I dont think it is very expensive to use 1 sat to post a reply. I think he is talking about how other people are able to do better because people with higher trust scores zap them more.
reply
If you are lowering territory prices what will happen to those that bought territories outright? I was thinking of just buying sports outright in January but if you are lowering the price I will wait.

I'm planning to increase the once price while decreasing monthly and yearly. The once founders mostly end up squatting on their territories ... so we either increase or remove the option (if we do remove it, current once founders will be grandfathered).
For monthly and yearly, whenever I make the switch I will prorate a refund.
reply
So I should buy in January then. Fair enough. Thanks

so it isn't effected by price.
and zap value ?
Is 1 sat for commenting prohibitively expensive?
of course not. I was thinking more about post cost in some territories and especially rent territories price.

Zap values factor in relative to other zap values too.

Is less frequent zapping really happening, or do you mean lower sats zapped?
reply
I mean lower sats zapped.

I still do not completely understand the Trust factor in all of the SN world. Maybe I am just really dense.
reply
trust rank is what makes 1sat ≠ 1sat

By SN do you mean Stacker News or something else? What does it have to do with inflation? I sure must be missing something here.
