In a reply to one of my posts yesterday, @DarthCoin recommended bitcoin resources that included Max and Stacy Keiser's To The Moon series of videos:

In the first video I came across a short segment with a Japanese woman who claims that the name Satoshi Nakamoto was picked for a reason I have never heard before. Maybe it's common knowledge and I just missed it?

So, I'm calling on our resident Japanese language teacher, @cryotosensei, to tell us if the following is accurate:

Does Satoshi mean "to enlighten" in Japanese? Does Nakamoto mean inside the book? ("Naka" means inside?, "Moto" means book?)

The woman who provides this translation is Nozomi Hayase, who is described as an "historian in the digital age."

The name satoshi has multiple meaning and written in multiple ways as 哲, 悟, 敏, 智, 慧, 訓, or 諭, which have the following meanings: 哲 means "intelligent, philosophy, clear" 悟 means "bodhi, enlightenment, apprehension" 敏 means "quick, sharp" 智 means "knowledge, wisdom" 慧 means "bright, intelligent" 訓 means "teach, instruct" 諭 means "teach, to lead"

The Japanese "naka" written as 中 means “Inside,” “Middle,” or “Within”

The Japanese word moto also (元) has multiple meanings, including: "origin or source", "foundation or basis" and "cause". But it doesn't directly refer to a book. The Japanese word for "book" is 本 (hon)

I'm also calling @cryotosensei to check this as homework from a very diligent student.

I have to say, this series of videos is exactly what I was looking for. An excellent year by year history. Sometimes I'm skeptical watching Max when he's at his most ridiculous.

In Japanese parents attribute a name with various Chinese characters which can have the same pronunciation but a totally different meaning. Since Nakamoto Satoshi is anonymous and maybe not even Japanese, nobody will ever know how his name should be written. Anyone who gives you the meaning of his name, or write his name on an image will likely forever be potentially wrong. Actually I am pretty close to think that people writing his name are like people who needs an image of God. If God exists who knows how he looks like? For some reason people need to have an image or something written, and want to know who he is.

"Satoshi" means "clever, witty, clever". "Naka" means "medium, inner, or relationship." "Moto" means "origin" or "foundation". Those things would all apply to the person who founded a movement by designing a clever algorithm. The problem, of course, is that each word has multiple meanings.
