The short story is that I find the Aardvark to be a motivational animal for me incase you missed the full story.
I think this is the correct episode of EconTalk where I picked up the name.
It's the intellectual equivalent of MMA: use what works, regardless of the source.
reply
Ok what your name means is way different than I thought. I really like it.
reply
I'll get back to you when I finish the episode. Probably later today 😁
reply
It's a less pretentious "polymath".

My nym is a common programming task. Some esoteric languages for data analysis (like Quilk) even have a built-in function called NullCount()
If nullcount is already reserved, my nym is instead countnull, an homage to this book (and the namesake character) from the cyberpunk Sprawl Trilogy.

Ilmari is a Finnish name that I really dig (especially its lineage to Ilmarinen, an eternal blacksmith from Finnish mythology).
0x is, of course, a common prefix for hex notation and a bit of a joke, because Ilmari doesn't contain too many actual hexadecimal digits.

Maybe the second account could be for my dark side. Like a Bizarro (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bizarro)
Or another thought I just had was:
Maybe Mumbo should be the term for a mili-Sat. "Smallest" unit available via Lightning.
Example: "Hey tomalies, let me send you a few Mumbo as a zap."

Haha awesome. I had no idea.

reply
Wumbology 🤣
reply
Back from when i started running my (now defunct) LN routing node. I wanted something that would soft doxx me in the sense that i wanted to have random people connect to me because of my unique geographical location. It kinda worked. I kept the nym as i joined SN as i was still running the node.
reply
That actually makes a lot of sense. And it's a unique name anyhow. You're one of the first stackers that I remember interacting with often, because your name stood out so much.

I used to work as a camp photographer. A lot of the kids started referring to me as "pictureman", so it kind of stuck

I got it from a random word generator. Granted, I did reject a few that I didn't like until I got Signal.
And then some random numbers after it.

This is the 'nym' that Stacker News assigned to me when I signed up so... LOL Have decided to stick with it

Nothing serious or pretentious at all; no hidden meaning.
It's a silly phrase I used once in my teens, and then whenever I needed stupid accounts (music, gaming etc.) this is what I used.

Ok, now I think there must be a hidden meaning!

I own a cat and there's a rap lyric in the song "Get Down" that goes "I'm a mack daddy soprano".
I'm not even a big rap listener I just would get that catchy lyric stuck in my head now and again. Rest is history.
reply
Random word generator gave me nichrome.
Was supposed to be temporary anon disposable nym for nostr. But it's too late now and I soft-doxxed myself and stopped caring about it so I stuck with it and made other ones for true anon.
I think it sounds and reads oddly so I'm occasionally tempted to burn it and return to the previous "general online pseudonym" I used to go by. Or maybe it doesn't matter that much

Kontext originates from my real name (Harder Kink) as per the Onyx track "Slam Harder" I got the nickname Slam, which somehow evolved into Slam Dunk Contest. And one of my friends, intentionally or not, turned that more into a Slam Tank Context. I liked the word context as it's what gives meaning to everything, and being a rapper, seemed suitable. As I was already rapping in both Estonian and English, I changed the C to a K so the word would also be sort of half-English, half-Estonian (context; kontekst)

Are you an 'actor'? Harder Kink is a great name for 'acting'

I am named after a kabob.
reply
Is the kabob that good? I may need to go out of my way to try one.
reply
21 sats \ 3 replies \ @k00b 29 Jan
It really is. Back when I was in California I'd make it once a week or so on our Weber grill that I modified to get the coals closer. One of my friends that wouldn't normally eat beef would chow on them.
It's just ground beef + onion pulp (they juice an onion and mix what's left with the meat). Not very difficult to make yourself if you have charcoal grill and flat and wide kabob skewers.
reply
I don't grill, it's one of the skills I never really picked up. I'll just have you make them for me at the first global SN conference.
Try to pick somewhere nice to have it by the way, 😜

It'll probably be in Austin because I don't like traveling.
If you're ever in LA or NYC, they have tons of persian restaurants that should have it.

I bet I can find one between Milwaukee and Chicago. I'll report back when I have one. I'm a pretty big fan of trying new foods.

CryptoShalix comes from the union of the words Crypto, short for cryptography, and Shalix, a nickname I gave myself when I was 14-15 years old.
Shalix comes from joining the "SH" of Shikamaru and Shino from the Naruto series, and Alix, a name I saw on a game, I cannot remember if it was Imperium 🤔
I also refer to this on my profile and portfolio.

My nym means "nothing", "no big deal". 😀

Self explanatory surely

No big story for me! I usually make up new usernames as I'm signing up for something, so it's often pretty random. I like Linux, so that's where the penguin came from. I was staring off into space trying to come up with something else to put with it, and space = astro! Then an underscore because I don't like usernames that are all one word or have spaces.

It still gives me chills when Steve Vai melts faces when hes done playing around with Eugene. Then "Eugene Lightning Boy Martone" falls back to his Julliard Classical guitar training and ends it. Movie still holds up, Karate Kid sort of overshadowed it. Ralph Macchio shows his acting chops that all got lost in the Karate Kid hoopla.
