I wonder if some algo thinks that "post about bitcoin from a third world country" is some key to unlocking zaps on SN. Most of the AI slop seems to be accounts making those kinds of claims.

I'd guess it's some slob that isn't a native english speaker trying to socially engineer more sats. It's pretty low velocity for something automated.

missed opportunity for every founder to reply with "I also didn't"

I will tag them all next time. Haha

Should've happened now. It's all or nothing with territory revenue - if grayruby or you didn't get them, no founder did.

I'm at the point where I'm starting to appreciate how hard somebody tried to fake something

It's basically a form of art itself

Examples

Not very good fake but an attempt was made and the song is good:

This is a pretty good fake:

(he mentions it's fake, I would not have been sure)

What if we need to "fake it" to discover who we truly are?

but it's also a sad form of art

reply

humans have been faking things well forever. It's called stories. I think this just means we've suddenly gotten a lot better tools for telling stories with videos.

Do you not make the distinction between something that is meant to be perceived as real but is not (fake) and something that is clearly labeled as not real (fiction)?

reply

You're right. I think I do make such a distinction. And yet I think maybe this clear distinction is relatively new in human history. Or at least our firm belief that we can actually tell is a recent phenomenon of the last 100 or less years.

Maybe the new abilities ai gives us will simply move us back to how we have always been: more or less credulous depending on the teller of the story and the story they are telling.

Pure fiction.
Not just videos.

Twelve years ago, I ascended Mount Fuji on National Day. I was attached (but still felt single) and carefree, and Japan felt like a pit stop in the globe of countries I wanted to conquer.

Today, as I scramble to move the entire family’s barang barang* out of the condominium before the lease runs out, I am frightfully aware that my once-awe-inspiring, globe-trotting dreams are a thing of the past. THERE ARE JUST TOO MANY THINGS.

But I guess I have much to be grateful for. Teaching pays the bills and affords me street cred. Sure, I mayn’t be laughing all the way to the bank, but those well-heeled ones may not get free Thursday afternoons either. (Yea, the white space that is brandished about as an antidote to the stresses of work. It actually exists in teaching.)

Being a teacher sounds decidedly more mundane than world traveller-cum-English sensei. But the conditions in my country have made it favourable to do what I like. What more can I then ask for?

Happy birthday, Singapore.
