Buying BTC through a bank is the stupidest thing you can do!
BTC was created to screw over banks, not to be subjugated by them. Besides, when you buy BTC through a bank, you're practically shouting from the rooftops that you own BTC.
Always keep BTC in self-custody.

Lo más increíble es que muchas personas están entrando a BTC a través de sus bancos, con esperanzas de obtener ganancias en Fiat. Todo mal!
reply
Yes, that's sad, that's why I blurted that out to some friends on Telegram. It was all because of Jerome Powell's announcement that banks are free to offer Bitcoin and cryptocurrency services, so one friend asked what that meant, and another was saying that now he could buy BTC without so much trouble...!!

Today is the anniversary of the death of Atatürk, one of the most important leaders of the 20th century. In my opinion, he is the greatest leader of all time. I'd like to share one of his quotes with you:
"Sovereignty belongs unconditionally to the nation."
I think if he were alive he would take his stance in favor of Bitcoin.
reply
10 sats \ 3 replies \ @AG 2h
He was probably referring to Nation-state in the legalese meaning of the word. Don't know much about him. why it was an important leader from your perspective?
@Natalia maybe interested on this too

Consider the economic situation in Africa today. He awakened a nation in a much worse situation. At the time, the people called themselves Ottomans. They had even forgotten their Turkish ancestry. The Arabic alphabet was used. He made it clear that his language was Turkish and he was Turkish. And thousands of other actions I can't even list here. Atatürk's way of thinking and character are entirely based on independence and sovereignty. I recommend you reading about him. He is known by very few people because the Western world ignores him. Because he is the only leader who defeated imperialism.
reply
0 sats \ 1 reply \ @AG 1h
Africa is a continent, not a nation-state. Are you comparing Africa with the Ottoman empire?
I wonder where is the limit between leader and dictator. Hitler was a leader for a lot of German people too, I am not saying it is the same, just saying that you're maybe coming from a nation-state perspective, not a sovereign perspective. Saying states are sovereign is like saying elephants can flight. Sounds to me, Atatürk was claiming independence, not sovereignty, for Turkey.
Sovereignty belong to individuals, not to communities or nations.

@k00b @ek have created two PR #2636 #2637 to expand analytics charts on desktop. With all these new metrics, it's really hard to distinguish what is what.
What you guys think?
reply

I don't think making the charts bigger is the solution, but I agree on the problem.

Is it just me or is SN a lot faster today?
Not sure if that's due to the database refactor or perhaps restarting the servers?
reply

eh it's probably a lateral move. i was able to remove some of the unoptimized stuff that was causing problems, but in unrelated areas I introduced new causes of slowness.

FYI - I keep getting notifications. When I click on them I get a 404. I know a lot of site work is being done now. Should we report these things or wait until we get the all clear?
Edit, I can't see my notification stream at all.

I made a dessert last night and shared it with my neighbor; she literally bought me her homemade cake today, even told me how to make it.
Sharing is a wonderful feeling - you don't really get less but more to gain, but then ofc don't expect anything in return in the first place.

This is pretty interesting. I knew a few pieces of it, but hadn't heard the story laid out like this before. Cory has an agenda, so there's a but of color there. But this is great, thank you!

Man this sounds like a guy who can’t take responsibility for his actions who hired the CIO? Was it not Cory himself? The deal blows up in his face and now we get this post? Like dude you hired him?!!? You had all the resources in the world and you made this bad hire/partnership.
reply
the shit still didn't blow out entirely, this story seems to be deeper than we thought
reply
I think it blew up swan. This bad deal crushed their core business. They never been the same after this blowup but it appears Cory got more to say let’s hope he takes some personal accountability
