I use Fountain because it has a great UI and supports lightning payments. I'm wondering what platform most bitcoiners use? I was going to paste a link to a Grant Williams podcast about the relationship with gold and oil in the world markets (https://play.fountain.fm/episode/7146587457) but I'm wondering what app most of us use?

Oscar here from Fountain - please do feel free to comment with any feedback / feature requests you want to see - we will get to them!

Some issues we're aware of / working on already:

Battery Drain - We are constantly improving the performance and have a big update coming this week that should really help.
Audio Cutting Out - We have a complete re-write of our audio library coming in the next ~6 weeks that should fix this issue. Until then please just ensure episodes are downloaded.

As well as these performance issues have loads more cool features coming soon - thanks for your patience / support! 🙏

Oscar, thanks for popping in! I'd like a 'sync' button at the top rather than in the ellipsis menu and also the option for opening to the podcast page by default.

On the search page, having the episodes and shows in different "tabs" would be nice - with the ability to sort by popularity or recency. Hard to search for a particular episode without those qualifiers

sync button at top - rather than this we plan to keep in the ellipsis menu but add pull to re-sync as a lot of people have requested this.
default open to podcasts page - we think over time the discover page will surface great content from episodes, but a lot of people have requested it so we might offer the ability to set it as default with premium.
search results in different tabs - yes great idea - like how we do for Fountain search on the discover page?
sort / filter searches - on our backlog!

Want to move 100% to fountain but I have two issues

It’s a power hog
Stops playing randomly in the background. Need to kill the app

I’m exactly the same - want to move 100% to Fountain but have those same issues. End up reverting to the Apple Podcasts app.

Actually had power issues with Spotify on a previous phone which made me cancel my subscription.

Thanks for your patience with these issues - we are constantly improving the power usage (streaming sats per min does affect it!).

We have a big update coming this week that has a lot of performance improvements which will help with the battery.

On the audio cutting out - we have a complete re-write of the audio library coming in the next few weeks which will fix this - until then just make sure your episodes are downloaded before playing and this issue should not appear.

Thanks for the feedback. I think people choose to stream to avoiding bloating your disk space with so many episodes. I found it confusing on how to delete episodes you no longer wanted on your device

btw @MerryOscar - I love the feature that I can "re-sync" to delete all the data on my phone. You might want to separate that specific feature from the re-sync and reset tags feature.

Another thought - it's likely not a high priority for your devs, but when I use the Fountain app on my M1 Mac, the login link that comes to my email doesn't open the app. It opens a 404 in Safari

I use Breez and it works great for me (including downloading offline episodes for listening during flights, etc). I tried Fountain initially, but it had multiple issues - I'm guessing those may have already been fixed.

Mostly AntennaPod. On occasion I'll listen using Spotify or NewPipe (FOSS Youtube app alternative)

Breez for anything I can find there, Spotify & Youtube for podcasts with boomer setups(not lightning enabled).

I saw someone on Twitter complain about Fountain battery usage a month or two ago, has that been fixed?

@0xtr we have had some issues with battery usage - there have been many small updates that have been reducing the issue over time - another big one coming this week that will have a big impact - thanks for your patience! 🙏

Havent noticed the issue to be honest, and havent tried breeze to compare. Im thinking being ,podcast focused, will help fountain create/adopt/explore more value for value/social applications.

Was a twitter thread about podcasting 2.0 apps and some replies discussing heavy resource/battery usage while listening to podcasts a little while back. Can't find it anymore so idk. Apparently not a problem anymore

Can subscribe to blogs (via RSS) as well as podcasts.

Supports sending Lightning payments (value4value) to podcast creators, directly from your node.

Fully self-hosted. It literally runs on your Umbrel and connects to your LND node.

PS: I actually wrote this app, because there was nothing like it out there.

Still using Google Podcast, my experience with "value for value" apps has been complex and poor. I'm listening a little and often, but the resume features of (Sphinx particularly) have been rubbish.

I’m surprised to see no love for Overcast. It’s my daily driver for non-podcasting 2.0 listening. I particularly likely the smart-speed function, where they remove the gaps but it still sounds natural.
