My personal predictions
Easy picks are ~bitcoin, ~jobs, ~nostr, ~meta and ~tech. These are the OG territories (they existed before we launched territories in early December) and will thus be here forever.
I predict that my own territories will also be here forever, so that's ~security, ~oracle and ~crypto.
I tried to evaluate every other territory by following metrics:
- Are they related to bitcoin in some way?
- Is there a dedicated stacker behind them that probably won't give up easy and might still make it work (if it doesn't already)?
- How much organic activity is there already?
- Did the founder react to the maintenance costs in some way on SN? If so, how?
š Territories that will definitely make it to 12 months from now:
~BooksAndArticles, ~Stacker_Sports, ~mostly_harmless, ~ideasfromtheedge, ~podcasts, ~privacy
š¢ Territories that should make it to 6 months:
~bitdevs, ~AGORA, ~AMA, ~art, ~devs, ~earth, ~lightning, ~Design, ~Music, ~builders, ~ecash, ~econ, ~Dogs_And_Cats, ~health, ~history, ~libertarian, ~lightning, ~NixOS, ~opensource, ~retrogaming, ~DeepDive
š” Territories that might make it to 3 months:
~Cannabis, ~christianity, ~bitcoin_beginners, ~DIY, ~hiphop, ~mempool, ~news, ~Personal_Finance, ~science, ~startups, ~UFOs
š“ Territories I am not sure are going to see the light of mid-May:
~B2B, ~lol, ~dotnet
This should include every territory. It was actually quite fun to evaluate every one of them since some were very interesting to look at. I visited territories I never visited before. For example, ~DeepDive looked pretty dead but then I read the description and it makes sense. This is the most interesting territory I've seen. Will keep a close eye on this one.
Also, I did not consider the effects of future features like crossposting. Currently, posts are limited to a single territory so I believe territories are currently cannibalizing each other for attention. With crossposting, we might see a lot of activity on a lot more territories.
I hope no one feels offended by my highly biased evaluation since it's just my personal opinion. Also, you can see this as motivation or honest feedback. If you don't agree with some evaluation, I would also be open for discussion about it. Maybe I missed something? I also probably didn't give every territory the same amount of due diligence. For most territories, I just took a very quick peek (like a few seconds). Additionally, we currently can't see when a territory was founded. So some territories might just be very young.
I did not intend to create a list that in some way might be similar to credit ratings, but looking at it now, some people might see it as one, lol.
Nice evaluation. I think all of us assume that we're all ordinary plebs looking to do what we can to improve SN, aid adoption, and maybe earn a few sats eventually. The SN deck that was posted yesterday got me thinking differently about the future. There also may be investors out there who think that owning a few territories might be a fairly inexpensive way of investing in SN long term. Perhaps they may buy some territories without our concern about breaking even now.

~mempool might be such a territory.
This post also got me thinking that crowdfunding the upkeep of a territory could also work by betting against its continued existence in prediction markets. Kind of like assassination markets but for territories, lol.
The owner can then bet against to win the money but they'll have to renew. It's basically reverse psychology.
With such prediction markets, one could source funds additionally from the ones that don't believe in a territory. So if this is complemented by normal crowdfunding (people who want to keep the territory can send sats to the owner directly without a market), this might be a very interesting way to maintain territories šš¤
š±š±š±š± @ek I find your lack of faith disturbing, 6 months? I'm sure I can do better than than š. But having the users become a little more zap happy sure would help.

Haha, was waiting for someone to say this!
I find your lack of faith disturbing
I'm sure I can do better than that š
Well, I guess the challenge is on š
reverse psychology at its finest
But having the users become a little more zap happy sure would help.
Territory reward pools should help as mentioned in the SN pitch deck. But only if there are posts that stackers want to zap.
I want to keep learning Piano. When I have some songs down in full, I intend to record them and post them in ~Music. Maybe even with video like this:
I really want to know how they do such cool videos

Sorry I never got back to this, i must have missed the notification! Absolutely I think we should be able to upload audio directly to SN. Hearing you play, hell I even owe siggy a vocal line to his Coinkite blues track. But I have no idea how to get audio onto SN. That could be a cool little feature. Personally I think that would really help ~Music out, giving small budding artists a place to throw a sample line of something of theirs and someone pick that up and work with them, it'd be great, like a little spot for demos.
