Ooh I just encountered an interesting experience on SN.
I have the “undo zap” feature enabled on my account. I zapped a post. Before the 5 second countdown finished, I force closed the PWA on my phone.
After reopening the app, I found that the zap in fact did not go through. This slightly conflicts with how the UX is portrayed, given it’s shown as a 5 second countdown to undo the zap.
As discussed with @ek, it’s really just a delayed zap with 5 seconds to cancel it, as opposed to a true undo.
If I were non technical, I might open a bug report for this. But I am more inclined to say this is working as designed 😜

No, we don't have such a list yet.
But if you scroll through SN and don't see any collapsed comments, they are probably not active anymore anyway?
Not trying to excuse us from providing such a list, just saying that muting someone still means you would see their comments, just collapsed by default.

Is there a GitHub issue for this enhancement?

I don't think so, at least I haven't found one.
I haven't seen any collapsed items recently, so it's probable that they are no longer active.

reply
travel is just so expensive these days.
Why? You just grab a backpack with some food and clothes and go... Put your hammock between 2 trees and sleep. Why do you have to do expensive trips when you have so much nature near you? You don't have to go across the globe just to hike.
reply
Hiking is something we do regularly. But unfortunately due to UK laws, you can't just put a tent anywhere. It has to be proper campsites and they charge you. Plus to get anywhere worth hiking from where I am, you need to drive to the decent places, so there's fuel cost and then parking costs. There's always hidden costs, nothing is free. The UK has found a way to charge you for anything they can these days. Doesn't make it impossible ofcourse, just more difficult. But we do go hiking often.

reply
0 sats \ 0 replies \ @ek 19 Mar
Yes, no need to use them but there is a need to serve them since a significant portion of stackers use iOS (unless we want to tell them to get fucked):
Apple does not seem to care about how utterly broken their web push implementation in WebKit is1 and we have written enough code to try to workaround their undocumented bugs (which they flag as "missing support") with minimal success.
After they announced they would pull PWAs from Europe (which they can't even call PWAs, they call them home screen apps and push notifications remote notifications because they are so special), I felt defeated and looked into Safari push notifications even though it hurts my soul. @k00b even paid for an iPhone for debugging a while ago.2
Turns out you need an Apple developer license for Safari push notifications which costs $99/year (it's not about the money, it's about the message) and I had AppleID login issues again. It wasn't working in Brave, I had to use Safari on iOS to login and try to enroll.
Then, they wanted not only my money but also my data (ID verification). After I uploaded the required photos, there was another error which simply said that something is wrong with my account and I should contact their support with a link to some generic support site. What a way to tell me to get fucked.
I guess Apple hates me as much as I hate them.

Footnotes

  1. Fortunately, I didn't need an Apple account to file a bug with WebKit
  2. I couldn't even buy it from the official store because I couldn't register an AppleID account due to signup errors. Bought it from Amazon then.

My amateur speculation is that time passes more slowly when we're taking in lots of new information.
When we're young, more is new, so time passes more slowly.
reply
I have found two explanations of this phenomena:
  • The older a person gets, every fixed amount of time, say an hour, a day, a year, etc, is smaller and smaller compared to your whole life. For example, when you are 2 years old, one year is half your life, but it's only 1% when you are 100.
  • Your brain stores memories more frequently when experiencing something novel. This can make you feel that a longer time has passed when you are doing a lot of new things compared to when you are doing the same every day.

reply
It's not a completely outlandish idea, but I think it would be very difficult to get it back after a few days.
