With the new UI, I keep tapping my profile image instead of the SN logo to go to the home page when on mobile lol
reply

My wife mentioned that. Is it conditioning from other apps or is it where we naturally expect the button to be?
reply
My theory is that subconsciously I am remembering the old header and how the SN logo was on the left and launching the profile menu was on the right.
I did also look at the few other apps I do use that have a footer nav bar on mobile and they do have a โ€œhomeโ€ menu item on the left. Iโ€™m not convinced Iโ€™m doing it because of this, though.

Iโ€™m not sure. Let me think about it and get back to you

Outside my house there is a tree where two eagles live, this morning I tried to take some photos of it, but the zoom on my phone is not very good. Instead of eagles they look like doves ๐Ÿ˜‚ but I swear they are eagles.

I live in Peru, there is a native eagle here, it is another variation of this very broad species. I know very well how to differentiate a Dove from an Eagle, I have even seen it when it hunts other birds, it is impressive. Your camera is very cool.
My phone's camera sucks, I don't have an iPhone or any other high-end phone, I zoomed in as close as I could but what difference does it make?
reply
Neat! That was actually a pair of binoculars I strapped to the front of my phone lol also my picture wasn't an eagle either. The joke fell flat it seems

Good Sunday Stackers!
The vice that became a virtue: You wake up on Sunday morning and roll out of bed. You look out of the window and see that kind of grey, pre-dawn gloom thatโ€™s utterly uninviting โ€“ not quite frosty, but definitely gloves weather. Thereโ€™s a lot you need to do. The garage needs cleaning. The leaves need sweeping. The dog needs walking. The upstairs tap needs replacing. The downstairs kitchen needs a new lightbulb. Thereโ€™s a lot that needs doing. But itโ€™s Sunday, and itโ€™s gloomy, and the sofa is winking at you. You wallow and waste away the day in your pyjamas, leaving your TV only for natureโ€™s twin call of food and relief. A Sunday sofa day.

I know it was just a minor shake, but I was born in a region without earthquakes. They always fascinated me. I remember as a kid looking at black and white photos of the devastation caused by the 1964 Anchorage, Alaska earthquake. Those images stuck with me.
reply
Some of the accounts from '64 are completely insane. I guess that's not surprising considering the pictures of the aftermath.
reply
As a child I couldn't comprehend the idea of an earthquake. Those photos made an impact. I thought the earth literally cracked open and things got taken down beneath the crust. I had nightmares about it.
reply
Not quite that severe, but some of it must have seemed pretty close. More than the land moving, though, a lot of the most harrowing stories I've heard involve the crazy waves that swept over entire towns.

See if you can find anything from Seward, Whittier, or Valdez.

It's truly incredible what an earthquake can cause in a matter of moments. I also live in an area where earthquakes are very unlikely to cause destruction. But you never know, and that terrifies me.

I live in Peru, it's right in the red zone. It makes me anxious to think about it, sometimes it has even happened to me that I cannot sleep, with fear that it will happen in the early morning, since I have lived here for 6 years, most of the earthquakes have happened in the early morning and to add more fuel to the fire to my fear, the buildings here are terrible, none of them are prepared for situations of that magnitude. I live on the 4th floor and I spend my time thinking of a way to get out quickly with my little daughter in case a situation where an earthquake becomes strong
