Announcements

Welcome to this week’s newsletter. It was a good week. We had very good posts, with special mention to @DarthCoin, @supratic, and @Rexdentron, whose work led the way. I have the sense that the overall quality of submissions is improving.
Thanks to everyone who contributed.
Top Post Of The Week Experiment
  • The results are in for Week 1, and I’m not sure if I should be disappointed or not. As you may remember, because of improved territory income percentages at SN, I have decided to try something new.
  • This is the first week I would award a total of 2000 sats OR the average daily award for the territory, whichever is higher. Unfortunately, although this was probably the best week this territory has ever had revenue wise, the threshold was not met. It was close. Here are the numbers:
Average daily territory income this week: 1838 sats
Threshold: 2000
Therefore, the awards will remain the same this week.

Top 5 Posts Of The Week

There will be a zap award for the top 5 posts weekly. It will be broken down as follows:
  1. 1000 sats
  2. 250 sats
  3. 250 sats
  4. 250 sats
  5. 250 sats
Posts will be judged using SN zaprank. The cut off time is 9:00am EST (1300GMT) Friday morning. I will post the top 5 winners shortly after 9:00am every Friday morning.
I reserve the right to not award any sats for the week. Also, I reserve the right to deny sat awards to bare link posts. I recognize that link posts can be valuable, so I will only only exercise discretion for low quality links that garner few sats or engagement from stackers.

Learning Resources

The White Paper

Everyone knows about the white paper, but have you read it? Here is the pdf.

DarthCoin’s Guides

DarthCoin is a somewhat controversial figure with a manner that may take some getting used to, but I think his guides are excellent as step by step instruction. The sentence structure might be unconventional, and he may express some strong opinions, but you will learn what he has set out to teach you. Here is a link to DarthCoin’s Substack Page, where you can find all of DarthCoin’s guides: https://darthcoin.substack.com/

Rexdentron’s Ecosystem Map

@Rexdentron has created a comprehensive ecosystem map. I believe he intends to keep this list updated Beginners will benefit from checking it out, as will experienced bitcoiners.

Why Bitcoin Only

Why Bitcoin Only is a massive trove of links, where you can find just about anything you’re looking for. It’s also fun to browse around.

Top Posts Of All Time

Here you will find a few of the top posts that have been posted to this territory. I am not going to adhere to a rigid zaprank system, since my purpose is to highlight content that has educational value. I will use an informal combination of zaprank and my own evaluation. For instance, some posts, though of high quality, are solely about Stacker News, and might have more appropriately originated as a meta post.
Now I remember that I still owe you another guide about how to use LN to get more privacy. But is a hard one, idk how to start it because on one side want to give as much details I can and on the other side I do not want to reveal too much info, too many tricks.
I need to think more how to structure it.

I am personally interested. I know what you mean, though. We all may LOSE privacy if you explain it too well!
reply
I am sure there are quite some "watchers" here on SN, no doubt. I do not want to confirm what they already know, you know what I mean.
I've been testing a lot all sorts of methods using LN. I put myself in the position of "investigating" just to see how far it goes. And I found some very interesting methods in obfuscating sats in a personal use of LN. Is not hard, you just need to know some basics and have a lot of curiosity and imagination.
Is really like to be a "master of water pipes". The bad guys will never find out where, how, when I spend my sats. And by "bad guys" I do not mean specifically the gov agents. Those are not a real threat for me....

Thanks @DarthCoin and @supratic for all the guidance and leading the way up.
It was a week full of learning. ~Bitcoin_beginners is completely on a different level with all these beginner posts and the talks about LN and Bitcoin, orange piling, Bitcoin fixes this and so much. Great week enjoyed it and learned so much. Again Thanks 🙏🙏 to all the contributors.

@supratic is killing it with those nice new guides! Keep'em coming!
reply
Thanks appreciated! planning the next one.. which "attachment" should I pick?
reply
I was surprised only one of them made the cut. They were all really good and very helpful. I have the Alby Hub on bookmarked, because that's the setup I'm planning on using.
reply
I did it today and it went very smoothly. I’m fully using Alby Hub over NWC now

reply
They all did well. They weren't all posted in the beginners territory, though.
reply
yeah, just added all to my bio, maybe easier to find the others that way!
reply
Eventually maybe you can create a consolidated link document that I can permanently post in the beginners newsletter. Then there will be a complete reference "book" that we can give to new stackers.
reply
supratic guides must be included into SN Guide / FAQ page
reply
Yes! That's right. That would be the best place for all of them. So, a consolidated link post would work.
I like the idea! they all probably need some peers review and adjustments before going there. Should be all maybe posted in ~meta? Or I could just write a comment there in the /faqs? not sure what's best...
Gotcha

attach them all! 😂😂😂

🤣

Maybe you can talk to @justin_shocknet about his project.

LN.pub + SN could be a wonderful combination. Excellent idea !
reply
I'm keeping an eye on it

Darthcoin alby write up was a big hit. Very well written.
reply
Rightfully so.
reply
he is the master of Lightning guides and tutorials, and that guide is a masterpiece!
reply
I got kinda lazy lately, not writing so much. You wrote more good guides 😂😂
reply
@supratic is doing a great job with the guides.
reply
Thanks @siggy47 for mentioning! Great post from @supratic that helped me to set up “send”. @DarthCoin post bookmarked too.
reply
Please give my prize sats to @supratic as an advance for the next "SN attachment" guide. He deserve them more.
