News Of The Week

Welcome to the Books And Articles newsletter. Thanks to everyone who posted.
Books And Articles is benefitting from what I see as the increase in quality posts on SN generally. I hope this is because of its growing popularity in the bitcoin community. For our territory, I am very happy to see that @denlillaapan contributed a Top Post this week. For those who don’t know, he is a writer and editor with a financial background. His credits include editing two of the best bitcoin books ever written: Broken Money, by Lyn Alden, and Resistance Money, by Andrew M. Bailey, Bradley Rettler, and Craig Warmke. He is now posting his own writing on Stacker News. He has also edited some of @realBitcoinDog’s written work, another SN newcomer who has brought his talents and energy to SN.
Although he’s not new to Stacker News, I also have been incredibly impressed by the articles being written by @SimpleStacker in reviewing bitcoin economic papers. I have learned a lot from him over the past few weeks. His most recent article is once again this week’s Top Post, and I look forward to many more.
I also want to mention @gpvansat, who’s contributed chronicles of his travels through Africa, and @carlosfandango, who regularly contributes book reviews and prose essays. Both of these writers have had Top Posts this week.
Thanks to everyone who helps to make this space better.
As always, please reply with suggestions and opinions on how to make this territory better.

Siggy’s Suggestions

Stillstackin’s review of this TV series got me interested in Slow Horses, something I can watch while waiting for the next episode of The Penguin to get released.
I have to admit that all I knew about Nate Silver before reading this post is that he was “the poll guy.” I know. I’m embarrassed.

Hey, not only did I get a shout out, but I see Slow Horses got a mention! Oldman rocks that series.
I've made some changes to the Rogue Scholar site, and have done some updates regarding the next release of the Celestial Intelligence Agency: Interstices. Apparently, though, the security certificate is slow in coming. Remember when we were less secure on the web but happier with http? Peperridge Farms does. If you are of a brave constitution, you can see it before Let's Encrypt makes it "more secure". Hell, I'm half-tempted to leave it that way as a kind of protest.

SN is so small still that two new thoughtful writers, and another ramping up his efforts, makes a huge difference. I've noticed it too.

There are more outside the territory that I didn't mention too. I'm excited. I really suck at digging up analytics, but it seems like there have been a lot of new accounts lately. Maybe we're in a bull market growth spurt?
reply
There was a big surge in referrals last week. For the most part, stacker counts seem to be very steady, but the amount of zaps may be increasing.
reply
My hope is also the same, if many people join then zap participation should also increase.

Thanks again for the shout out! Glad you like MY ENERGY
I have to admit that all I knew about Nate Silver before reading this post is that he was “the poll guy.” I know. I’m embarrassed.
Welp, that’s my tell @siggy47 that you don’t live in USA or at least seriously tune out if politics!!
I’ve been trying to get @denlillaapan to write his Bitcoin story for years on Satoshi’s Journal. We’ll see if he finally does it for SN and ~BooksAndArticles!

¿Es este el camino a la frontera?
reply
Haha! Omg but how would a retired U.S. lawyer not follow politics closely enough to know Silver’s 538 election forecast??
reply
Of course I know 538! That's why I called him the poll guy. I had no idea he was a writer wrote about poker.
reply
Ah. Got it! you are redeemed

Thanks for the shout-out again, and for the zaps!
reply
Thank you kindly for the shout-out!
Correction: I edited Aaron van Wirdum's The Genesis Book https://store.bitcoinmagazine.com/products/the-genesis-book
The resistance money people I -- unfortunately -- only got an early read to and reviewed their book (both in BM Print and for AIER: ) https://aier.org/article/bitcoin-is-resistance-money/
reply
Sorry about that. You have so many impressive credits.
reply
pff, oh flatterer there!
reply
Thanks for the alpha on @denlillaapan. I didn’t know n wouldn’t have known if not for your newsletter!
reply
Did you stop sharing sats with the top poster? Or is it because @SimpleStacker won two weeks in a row?
Also embarrassed I missed a post about SF, but catching stuff I missed is yet another reason I love these newsletters.
reply
Oh man! Thanks for noticing. I completely forgot. I will rectify it now with a punitive zap. Another senior moment.

  • and @carlosfandango, who regularly contributes book reviews and prose essays
He and Ziggy the dog write bad haiku as well….
Thank you for the mention.

Thank you siggy for the letter.
These papers (one from EU as well) have definitely made some noise there. But after reading them and the reviews, I got assured that they will be in the garbage truck before they are applied on public.
