I haven't worked on SN from yesterday until now. It hasn't been for lack of desire, but rather because I'm very busy preparing a kind of basic course on Bitcoin with some friends who, along with acquaintances of theirs, want to learn. Studying to learn is not the same as studying to teach. So I hope I can help them take the orange pill and start to enter the Bitcoin rabbit hole. I hope that as my friend @DarthCoin says: Bitcoin is with me.
I'll tell you how we're doing these days.

Hello, I admit that over a month ago someone very close to me passed away. Today I went to clean the grave of this person from flowers that had withered, I left only artificial ones that were still pretty, I cleaned many candles for the grave for reuse, I put an insert in one myself, lit it, left it, of course I also prayed, I hope my cleaning came out neatly. In the evening I went to pray for this person in church, but out of love for this person I admit that tears are flowing just like on the first day. However, no matter what, this was the person who raised me or was and was always with me whether it was good or bad even when my parents wanted to divorce. A person with whom I spent even the whole day in my early childhood, to whom I only came to the one floor below in my house, who was able to combine the most expressive Polish dishes like no one else, such as bigos and pierogi using the former as a filling. I hope she is doing well there on the other side.
Edit/PS: yes, I copied this message because I posted it on sallon on November 14, but 1. I did it today on the 16th, because I made a mistake 2. I would just like to hear someone's answer whether it is normal after such a long time to still be in mourning after the loss of such a close person 3. I was simply wrong, thank you again for all the words of commentary, I will be happy to answer

My cousin could never get over the fact that for her 6th birthday she wanted a Barbie party and my aunt understood Barnie... it was such a disappointment when all the decorations were about a purple dinosaur and not the cool blonde girl.

There are only 5 primary tastes
  • Bitter
  • Sour
  • Sweet
  • Salty
  • Umami
reply
that's true according to the latest available knowledge.
what people usually describe by taste is "flavor" which is primarily an olfactory sensation (mixed with some tastebud sensation), which comes from nerves that go directly from the nose into the frontal brain.
reply
The reason Tequila shots is taken with lemon and salt is because it tastes like shit otherwise. Whisky on the other hand and gin for that matter, can be enjoyed on its own. That is all. Have a nice day.
reply
do all people think that? for example, i think that both are pretty intolerable for drinking straight. i suspect that it's because i cannot focus on the smell as much as on the overwhelming signal to the tastebuds.
reply
0 sats \ 0 replies \ @alt 17 Nov
Whisky is certainly an acquired taste. Anything with a significant portion of alcohol is quite literally poison, so it's natural for our bodies to reject it at first.
However, once you acquire the taste for whisky, there are beautiful smells and flavours in there to be appreciated. I will say that it helps to drink decent whisky, not whatever is cheapest. If it's scotch, a good rule of thumb is to get something named after a place, not named after a person.

SN has become my QC check on my node. Soon as my zaps start failing I know my node has frozen up
reply
is it an unannounced or announced channel? i already had my 2 sat-zap force closure with Blixt and even tho it's an amazing wallet, i am still mentally recovering from that incident, so i treat the current unannounced channel with great care, and route most payments thru an LSP for higher reliability.
imho, such tiny payments have no place on an amateur routing node, or even an unannounced channel of a private spending wallet. custodial wallet or large realiable LSP's can handle those tiny payments better. cashu mints on a cloud server are also great for small payments.
basically, how does one know whether ur node froze up due to a slew of random zapping activty or some other reason? stress-testing is warranted, but the system doesn't have to be stress tested all the time, especially when there are other options with lower consequences.
reply
Do I have to remind to everybody my old warnings? #523570 btw... that's why ek hate me, because I warned people from the beginning.
And this is going to have more consequences, even if stackers will say "ok I will use another custodial account so I will not get FC on me". But that is again, throwing the dead cat in other's garden. Those custodial solutions will have THEIR channels FC and will start looking into WHAT is causing this, finding out that is SN... So what they will gonna do? Will start filtering these SN zaps and block them, making your zaps on SN unreliable.
This system of "hold invoices" is good but should not be used in situations like SN zaps. Is ok for Robosats and things like that where the users are aware that have to wait until is settled the HTLC.
BTW, SN never explained in details how this system will work, so users will be aware. They just mentioned vague information.
reply
"throwing the dead cat in other people's garden" lol ๐Ÿคฃ
i agree that people are very slow to take up new information, it's a lot and very nuanced, and even those who mean well are busy learning other things, teaching without learning better wallets (e.g. using Muun), working, etc.
it helps when more people talk about the problems, and the viable solutions. it's hard work, because addressing one problem unveils many others.
a node runner friend refuses to run nodes without tor, i think in part because his parents are lawyers and he is too scared to look into sovereign education, so i stopped talking to him even at the meetup. instead i work on someone else who is less close-minded, since i do not like to get upset. hopefully over time the slow tide raises all ships (intelligence level).
is there an avalanche of force-closures during nostr zapathons that anyone noticed?
reply
Nah my start9 node has been freezing up for about once a month these last 3 or 4 months.
I power cycle it and everything works smoothly after
