Seems like the Knots/Core debate has turned misogynistic and racist.
I should really stop using Twitter...
Saw several personal attacks in a row on Gloria Zhao's gender and race, as if somehow that disqualifies her from contributing to Core.

You'd think that if there was one realm where who you are is unimportant, it would be bitcoin.
Did you see that a PR to undeprecate datacarriersize was merged? (#1243966)
Perhaps now people the yelling will calm down.
reply
It is unimportant in Bitcoin. There will always be racists and even if the racists were a majority then it would still be unimportant.
The most important thing is to not be triggered if it happens to you, which is hard when it happens at scale, and has burned out many a developer, over much less than the toxicity we see in Bitcoin discourse. The sacrifices that some are making are admirable no matter whether you like or dislike the person making the sacrifice.
reply
Don't think the yelling will calm down. This non-eventic feud has become some people's raison d'être.

Most of my success in parenting has come from realizing that my kids will forget what they were angry about shockingly fast. This may sound very paternal, but in many cases where they are worked up about something I know to be inconsequential, my goal becomes brief diversion so that they will move on...and it usually works.
Of course, most people on X are not children, but I still have great faith in the ephemeral nature of human emotions. Give them a month or two and they'll be worked up about something else.

If you're trying to figure out what to create, often times the best advice is to create "something you want." However, it's easy to fool yourself into believing that you want anything you yourself have created. So you actually want to create "something you want so badly that you'd buy it even if someone else created a poor version."
This dispels most manipulations. Namely:
  1. I want to create this thing because I'm curious about the things I'll learn while doing it so I must also want to consume this thing.
  2. I want this thing but only if it's done right and the only one who knows how to do it right is me.
reply
How about you unapologetically become the most epic version of yourself?
Not because your ego wants it, but because the world needs it.

Here is another reminder of our fortnightly appointment, to brainstorm ideas and bring projects forward. Similar to the Stacker Saloon, it will stay pinned in the ~Design territory hot section for two weeks, recursively, giving us time to discuss and provide feedback.
Whatever you are thinking about... A new app? Book? Review your apartment furniture setup following feng shui? Upgrading your 4x4 suspensions? 3D print something for your miner? Redesign your garden yard? What else?

Not a great day at Steak & Shake. None of the workers recalled anyone paying with bitcoin. On the other hand, one of them said they wouldn't really know how people pay at a self serve kiosk. There are no human order takers. Also, one employee was very interested in learning about bitcoin, so we had a good, long conversation about money, inflation, the US dollar, and a low key orange pill session.
Perhaps the most disappointing thing was that my qr code code got cut in half.
That meant I was
Ineligible to win a labubu
There is no justice.
reply
labubu hahahaha did you saw the South Park episode about labubu ?
reply
No. I know nothing about them.
It be really cool if we could pressure Steak and Shake into releasing some numbers about bitcoin transactions...or maybe it would just be depressing.
reply
And it turns out they posted this today:
Steak n Shake's domestic same-store sales increased by 15% this quarter, outpacing ALL other fast-food chains!
Much of the credit for this goes to Bitcoiners, who embraced our adoption of Bitcoin, and Secretary Kennedy's "Make America Healthy Again" initiative.
Serving Americans better-quality food is simply the right thing to do.
Thank you for your patronage! 🇺🇸
But it's not exactly clear evidence.
reply
You can still win a labubu, just go back to the store and demand a new receipt.
reply
the important thing from this story is that an employee is interested into bitcoin and not labubu :)
reply
I would if I wanted a labubu
reply
you're telling me you don't want a chance at this?

I'm on my way back to get that qr code.

Seems like you found a way to get a worker canned! Ahahah

I thought of that. Turns out he's the manager, and he has worked there for years. I couldn't believe it. He looked like a kid. Then again, everyone looks like a kid when you're my age.

Fine from here. When you don't tie your life to the political system by where you live you can much weather the storms of the crazy people.
I'm assuming something is going on I don't know about. Found out the government was gonna be shut down from my dad last night. I can't handle all this good news lol.

Every time I feel bad about living in Los Angeles all I have to do is step outside during the day. Especially in the Winter/Fall/Spring, and Summer too when it's not too hot!
reply
No kidding. I have stupid fog in the winter and baking heat in the summer but this was a mild summer. I don't think we hit 110 once. Always a good summer when we stay below that stupid number.
reply
Man, it's a cool 73 out where I am right now. Just beautiful weather.

ya we had a mild summer i think we hit 100 maybe once, does it get foggy out there? i guess the winds huh? whats that like?
reply
In the San Joaquin valley we get what's called Tule fog. Sometimes it doesn't get burned off by the sun and we are socked in all day. In places the visibility can be as low as a few feet. Its more of an issue in rural areas as it has a lot to do with moisture in the soil. They have to cancel school for it a few days each year. Just too dangerous to drive school buses in it.

I feel like this should be my new response to any of my Christian friends that are afraid of Christian Nationalism. Bro... you both want to use force to make the world in your idea of God's image.
Your's is just one where you steal from one to give to another and you have different rules. You both feel righteous and like the other is ridiculous. Your problem is your politics. You just disagree. Stop trying to pretend you are better than them.

I still have a PC that I keep it with a Win7, apart from others with Linux (Mint and Debian). This reply is from that Win7 PC. Works, but is a pain to keep it alive and well. Especially with browsers that you cannot update them anymore. Many apps you have to keep them old and clunky, but if you do not not anything important are manageable. I keep it just for fun with this old Win7. I TOTALLY REFUSE TO USE ANY WIN10 OR WORSE 11... NEVER. Linux Mint is just fine for regular use and crap. People should move NOW at least to Linux Mint. MS Win is a total nightmare. And this is coming from an old IT Sys admin working almost 20 years in this domain of MS Win servers and desktops. Get rid of Windows NOW!

Indeed. Helped a young couple move to Mint maybe a year ago and they love it. The vast majority of people do not need Windows at all. Mint works better on old hardware than any version of Windows and its not spying on you or as vulnerable to viruses.
We nerds and advanced users over-estimate how much of the operating system most people even use. I think its actually easier for causal users to switch in many ways.
reply
Yeah and Linux is so much easier than all that Microsoft crap.

on the other hand, creating real-wold change and stepping out of the matrix is the hard part;
create a small incremental positive change in ur life today!

To be governed is to be watched, inspected, spied upon, directed, law-ridden, regulated, penned up, indoctrinated, preached at, checked, appraised, seized, censured, commanded, by beings who have neither title, nor knowledge, nor virtue. To be governed is to have every operation, every transaction, every movement noted, registered, counted, rated, stamped, measured, numbered, assessed, licensed, refused, authorized, indorsed, admonished, prevented, reformed, redressed, corrected.

Happiness Journal 29/9/25
The bane of an English teacher’s life is teaching writing. To combat that feeling of helplessness, I wrote an essay tailored to my 11-year-olds’ needs. This means punchy sentences and simple words because my English teacher used to say, “Keep It Simple, Stupid” and I should listen to his advice.
My stroke of genius was getting five students who are relatively better readers to read each stage of my Story Mountain. Kudos to them for reading loudly and expressively. Hence, even if my students weren’t paying full attention, they were still aurally bombarded by the important bits. Just the way I had planned it!
It’s examination season, but ironically, I was in a conducive headspace to ask the five of them to take a photograph with me after their ‘performance’. First photo I have ever initiated with this class.
