Yes sure they are paying the fees, nothing wrong with thst. They have plenty of sats to pay. This situation is really twisted.

@k00b @SN notifications are not coming through from the SN android chrome web app. i mean i installed sn as an app. no notifications at all. notification settings for chrome and sn are on.

reply

Did you just enable them? We noticed that the first notification may take some time for some reason. Push notifications rely on external services (push services) provided by browsers over which we don't have much control. The first notification should be Stacker News notifications are now active. Did you get that one?

Or did you ever receive push notifications in the past?

You're talking about push notifications, right?

Just tested on my side. If I disable and enable the push notifications, I still receive the Stacker News notifications are now active notification.

reply

Yeah I got several push notifications before, I got an OS update, may be thats why. I will try deleting the app and reinstalling it.

reply

so i uninstalled SN app and opened in chrome and got these errors when tried to toggle push notifications tick

then I installed SN as an app from chrome and tried enabling push notifications and it worked and I got the ' Stacker News notifications are now active. 'notification.

i have to test more notifications will come or not.

reply

yeah push notifications are coming in now.

Morning Stackers,

Today I'm fiat mining, 3d printing, and finishing the Plebdev Course.

My Node has been having some trouble recently, I'm reaching out to the Nodestritch group on Telegram for advice.

I'm thinking the next read should be Bitcoin is Venice.

I'm throwing stuff up into my github, and hoping that in time i'll be able to contribute meaningful code towards FOSS projects.

Thanks Freaks, TheWildHustle

Howdy gang!!! Little Friday is here and the weekend is just around the corner, hope your week has been going smooth and productive, my apologies for yesterday but I had little time to spare when I was done it was a tad late to post but that doesn't mean I didn't send you some good vibes and energy, this weekend I will definitely have some relaxation, let's see if the weather is good and I can take the wife to the beach and bask on the sun with a couple of beers and some snacks. Some well deserved rest. May your Thursday be spectacular and amazing, just like you are, don't forget that, everything you do is important and it matters!!! Let's just keep on keeping on. Hey stackers, if you missed it yesterday, part 4 of the Broken Money book club was unleashed.

I left a bunch of discussion questions quite late in the day, so if you're interested in the topic, have another peek. There's a few that I really hoped that someone would bite on so I'd have someone to talk to about them. The loneliness of the long-distance bitcoiner :)

And also, if the super generous stacker who zapped the shit out of this is reading, it really is much appreciated, every time. The motivational power of knowing that people care about your efforts cannot be overstated. Each time this happens I think about how to bring the same energy to the rest of my life, who I could encourage. Gracias, muy amable.

reply

I started Part 3 now and chapter 9 about "Printing Money for War" really resonated with me.

I think when I started my journey down the bitcoin rabbit hole, this was one of the hardest pills to swallow. It sounded way to conspirational. I also think I was never fully convinced about these mechanics I read about (wars are financed by inflation, tax or war bonds) or I was still in denial mode: "Fiat can't be that bad, right? Right?"

But with this chapter, I feel a lot more convinced and prepared for future discussions about this with nocoiners.

I wonder why this point isn't argued about more. War or potential for war (see Taiwan crisis, Ukraine and now what's happening with Israel) is one of the biggest problems humanity faces, why don't we look more at how we can solve it or make them at least less probable or severe?

It's so sad trying to talk to people about this but they don't listen.

Or even saying, they believe there will be more wars on a bitcoin standard without proper arguments or talking about the current system first.

Maybe I should put this into your discussion about Part 3! Maybe you even mentioned similar things, need to check out later.

I really love your book club initiative!

reply

I would love it so much if those "neighborhoods" of discussion could anchor later discussions, e.g., when a relevant topic comes up in three months, and there's a thread in one of those book club posts where you (or someone) has really drilled into topic, and now there's some deep context with pretty thoughtful discussion -- that would be a great resource. It would be a way for knowledge to accrue, and be both static (capturing the thinking of the past) and dynamic (reflecting new thinking, reactions, etc.)

So please do put it over there!

And thanks for the kind words, too :)

reply
The motivational power of knowing that people care about your efforts cannot be overstated.

It's kind of embarrassing, but it was a real aha for me when I first started giving thoughtful and genuine compliments. It can be like presenting water to someone desert stricken and parched. You can see their spirit rehydrate in real time. And we are all desert stricken and parched.

Giving someone money is maybe the least thoughtful way to show someone you value them but there's no mistaking that you value them when you do.

It seems like a miracle. If you could package the raw power of genuinely giving a shit about people, and seeing their efforts, and recognizing those efforts with words, that pill would be the most highly-controlled substance on Earth. Wars would be fought over it. And yet anyone can do it for free, with the right mindset.

Giving someone money is maybe the least thoughtful way to show someone you value them but there's no mistaking that you value them when you do.

Nicely put.

First snow came yesterday and left today. My dog loves cold weather so the walks we go on are more fun for everyone involved. I enjoy that.

reply

Snow sounds nice, I would like to experience it at least once in my life, here where I live it never snowed before.

reply

You should! Here it gets depressing when the leaves have left the trees and the dark consumes more of the daylight hours, so when the snow arrives it's just brighter and beautiful.

There's more upside to snow than downsides imho, and sometimes I pander if I should just move even further north to get more of it.

reply

Sounds like a lot of fun, especially for your bog. Enjoy the snow ;)

reply

Hehe thanks, yes it is. Snow will be back soon enough and she'll chase a lot of thrown snow balls when it does! Speaking of, I need to get another pair of gloves- they always get too wet after a good snow throwing session.

reply

Don't forget to get some paw gloves for the dog as well. Lol. I see some dogs wearing shoes now. If I had a dog I would buy it some sneakers.

reply

Hahah, her breed is a finnish lapphund, so we rarely use shoes for her apart when she pulls us on skiis.

https://m.stacker.news/5050

reply

That's a cute pup. She seems rather small to be pulling you on skiis. Do you mean, your wearing skiis and she pulls you or she pulling you while sitting in a skii, I don't know what that's called.

reply

She's 21 kg and a lot of muscle so she pulls just fine hehe.

I think its called skijoring?

reply

Great looking dog. Is she the dog you do agility with?

reply

Thanks haha, that cuteness lets her get away with a lot of shenanigans... and yes it's the agility dog! She's very good at it but always gets too excited during competitions to almost always being disqualified. I don't mind, we're just doing something fun together.

reply

I used to do Schutzhund with my old American Bulldog. We had fun, but she was terrible at bite work. She was a lover, not a fighter.

Also related to the density of new experiences. At 5, almost everything is new, the world is full of wonder. At 40, for most people, nothing is new. Their lives are on rails.

It's hard to live like you're 5, in this way, but I bet you know somebody who does. It's like they get more time than the rest of us. I'm not sure if it's terrible or nice to know that you can do it if you want it bad enough.

reply

I guess its true what they say then: we tend to lose that twinkle in the eyes the older we get. Getting older really sux.

reply

I was explaining this exact theory to an engineer (and family member) recently.

All I got was a blank stare. We're the same age.

reply

Cowboys are built differently.

reply

Thank you for this theory. I think it might also be the time is constant but because we become consciously aware of time, it seems to move faster the older we get. Or it might just be that our lives gets so busy the older we get that we don't occupy our time with meaningful memories. Either way, stack sats🌽 and stay safe🫡.
