The internet has us serving needs of people we've never met, far away, at the expense of locals.
reply
The art is balance, also depends on what you want, let's say learning - I can't learn much about traditional art and crafts on the Internet, but then I can't learn much about Bitcoin from my locals, so why not learn from both then you share it back to different space.

I suggest you to read this old experiment guide I wrote few years ago. It will give you another perspective: https://darthcoin.substack.com/p/lightning-routing-fees-experiment
reply
Thanks. But offering liquidity for a nominal fee isn’t the worst thing in the world. By selling channels you establish a market for liquidity that an LN node can use and since they are paying for it less incentive for them to not buy it.
Plus if I have sats just relaxing in a hot wallet and someone can use them for inbound liquidity it makes sense to contribute to the network in this way.

looking for people to lecture me about responsible backup procedures and mnemonic writing and nostr self-ownership if possible
I wrote a mnemonic down and wrote it wrong, or wrote the wrong one, or something. I dunno. Ever look for your keys forever and find them in the fridge? And wonder if it could actually be elves or something? That's what this is like. I can't believe I did it. But I did.
Anyway, here I am, back, with a new npub and nsec, and I've tested whether I can recover it with the mnemonic this time, not just written it down. so just FYI
The old stacker profile nym is now @UCantDoThatDotRugged (it was still logged in on my phone but will logout one of these days)
I've transferred ownership of territories to this one, now aptly named @UCantDoThatDotNet
I prove this new one here is really me, and not some equally ascerbic imposter who has murdered me for my laptop and phone, by putting this new npub on my website ucantdothat.net, and also my alby address is connected to the new npub.
If that's not enough proof for you, I can meme your shit up right, son

Sympathies/condolences. I did this to myself back when I was into Nano and reset a phone to troubleshoot it while being 100% sure I'd written down the phrase correctly. That's 30 shitcoins I'll never see again, and I have a constant fear I'll repeat that with my current BTC collection. Really hope that correct mnemonic turns up.
(As an aside, I think about the number of times I've lost physical keys to places, and man does the concept holding my own keys not quite give me the confidence it should.)

Number if individuals who complete your poll. A basic in statistics is if you don't have a relevant sample size you can't really conclude anything from the data

You are working on it. Keep it up! Just keep trying to get more people to complete it, so you can make a more confident decision about revival or not.

anyone curious about Ramadan? I'm not really religious myself, but then I've observed and experienced many interesting things while living in Anatolia - the land of blended religions, empires, and civilizations.
It's too much to talk about and so fascinating! it's like you've found someone who has been through so much, and the more you learn, the more amazed you are.
and why Islamophobia is everywhere in the West now? yet most of what I have seen or experienced is about peace and beauty...
reply
In my experience Islamaphobes have extremely little experience knowing Muslims. The dang greeting translates to Peace be unto you! How's that for a starting place?!
reply
The dang greeting translates to Peace be unto you!
yes - salam alaykum, then you reply with alaykum salam. ( peace be upon you )
also it's not just about fasting but about sharing and connecting too, and one of the interesting things about fasting: people usually break the fast with dates:
Dates are easily digested, making them a quick source of energy and nutrients. Eating dates after a long day of fasting can help the body’s blood glucose levels quickly return to normal
reply
and one of the things I like during this time is the special Ramadan food! Especially Güllaç in Turkey; it's made with milk, rose water, and pomegranate, and it's so GOOD that you want to eat it every day, but it's usually only sold during Ramadan, but ofc you can make it at home.

Islam has been anti west since inception. From the Crusades to the fall of Constantinople to 9-11-2001 and October 7, 2023.
Mohammed’s pilgrimage to Mecca was a military conquest. He was a butcher.
Why did the Armenian genocide occur in 1915?
What is the prominent and obvious characteristic of the immigration crisis in Europe?
I suppose Afghanistan was useful during the 1980s in fighting the USSR.
Islamophobia is a feature not a bug.
reply
Bro I grew up in a Christian church that is anti everyone else - claiming we alone are going to heaven and all others are condemned to hell. If they can't be converted they are to be shunned.
What's different?
I will not play the name the massacre, name the Holocaust game with you. I'll assume you actually know better, but try to make some point anyhow.
reply
The difference is some people ignore the commandment , thou shalt not kill.
Did your church put a contract on anyone who criticized your religion?
Beirut used to be the Paris of the Middle East but no longer because of the influence of Islam. Who is the last university president to be assassinated?
I don’t mind playing the massacre game. Name your massacre. Maybe we should to gain more clarity
reply
you're serious?
The Crusades Ku Klux Klan Hitler
Shall I go on?
reply
Please continue
What was wrong with the Crusades?
Hitler opinion of Jews is no different from Islam opinion of Jews
Does an empty stomach make people more or less violent? Does the west need to raise threat levels during Ramadan?
reply
reply
What about Muslim persecution of Jews and Christians?
Has that been wiped from your reading list?
Why can’t Jews and Muslims coexist in Israel?
Yeah that's enough. Your point is made. I see you.
reply
I'm always interested in anything going on in other cultures/countries (my basic knowledge of Ramadan is just that people fast during the day during the month).
As far as Islamaphobia, I think it's from a mix of people generally forming and perpetuating opinions of groups based on the worst actions by any members of them, and the vested interest folks in power have in having folks focus hatred on an outsider group (instead of on the folks in power).
reply
I don’t believe Islam and the West are compatible. Maybe we can coexist peacefully but I am skeptical

  • Check cherry blossom 🌸 forecasts issued by the Meteorological Agency to know when sakura are likely to bloom in popular parks & castles.
  • Buy sakura mochi - rice cakes filled with red bean paste& wrapped in a salted cherry blossom leaf - and have a hanami party
  • Different places showcase different sakura.
  • Somei Yoshino have 5 near-white n pink-tinged petals. Bloom in early April & fall within a week. Oldest Somei Yoshino tree planted in 1882 in Aomori Prefecture!
  • Shidarezakura (Kyoto’s official flower) have drooping branches that look like those of a weeping willow. Have cascades of bright pink flowers
  • Kanhizakura are dark pink and shaped like a bell. Native to Taiwan & Okinawa, they can bloom as early as Jan but are still found flowering in March
  • Kitazakura are a kind of yaezakura (blossoms with more than 5 petals). Can have up to 100 layered petals & usually bloom later than Somei Yoshino.
