It should just be an outright auction mechanism, but you can put money for or against anyone. Whoever ends up with the highest positive total wins. Third parties would have a real shot, plus it would raise a bunch of money that could offset taxes.

There's literature on a bunch of different voting mechanisms, I'm not sure if anyone's looked at this one, specifically. I ran it past a friend who's into mechanism design and he thought it made sense, but he hadn't heard anyone talk about it before.

It's a type of all-pay auction and those have certainly been studied extensively.

I have seen people advocate for a system where you can buy as many votes as you want, but they increase in cost exponentially. I know that's been studied. Supposedly, that design has a bunch of really nice properties.

It is similar, but without the part where you trust politicians to "formally define and manage an after-the-fact measurement of national welfare".

What I'm talking about is just bidding on the outcomes you want. Voting is cheap talk, while this is a costly signal. If anyone can appreciate why that matters it's the SN team.

It would basically work by pledging money towards the outcomes you want to see: i.e. $1000 on Biden losing, $100 on RFK winning, etc. Whichever outcome happens, that's what you pay.

I misspoke earlier. It's not an all-pay auction. I hadn't thought about this in a while and forgot exactly how it works.

If you want an example. 4hrs ago, darthcoin posted a judas priest track in music. (Banger of a track) 242sats zapped, 2 comments. The comments, me and darths reply to me. Ya gotta start asking questions at that point 🤣🤣 I got people in the daily posting every day, stacking maybe 20 sats between them with people talking to each other about the content... Engagement, real engagement, nothing.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, I'm not running music for a profit, I'm running it for discussion over music and to share Tracks with people. But I'm becoming less and less inclined to take a loss each month over the fees of providing that space.

With absolutely no disrespect to Darth (our dude does great work) people zapping on name recognition is not V4V that's the same as "liking" something just because a celebrity tweeted. Is this V4V or is this just another popularity site?

Yes, I know that people zap my name. As I said many times on SN, people should spend wisely their sats. If they really want to upvote my posts, is enough 1-10 sats. The amount of sats is ONLY if they really want to send me sats, it have nothing to do with ranking a post, the amount of sats it doesn't mean more votes.

Yes, sometimes they zap more because they like what I say or find useful that info. That is another story.

The thing is that, again I said multiple times, the leaderboard is rigged because the OGs are ranked differently. In such a madness contest, if SN wants to be fair, would erase all the rankings for everybody, during that contest. Everybody start from zero. And most important: nobody is hiding. Or everybody is in hiding. I was forced to enter in hiding but I do not like it.

The whole madness contest is shit and should stop. I already post less because doesn't make me feel ok to post more.

I remember my daughter getting a bad case of croup long before her first birthday. My wife and I were terrified. I remember being next to her bed in the hospital after they got her some oxygen. I think @k00b already has it in the works, but a little nudge won't hurt. I have been pushing for this for a while. I'm just worried that allowing perpetual edits on discussion posts could really mess up the back and forth talk between stackers.
