Korean lesson of the day: 벼락부자.
벼락 (byeorak) means thunderbolt or lightning.
부자 (buja) means rich person or wealthy person.
When combined 벼락부자 conveys the image of someone who suddenly becomes rich, often unexpectedly or without the slow accumulation usually expected by previous generations.
벼락부자 is nearly every young Korean's dream. No hard work expected, just sudden riches. That's probably also why degen gambling is so rampant here.

It is true that every block has a significant amount of dust UTXOs. I have not measured or defined what is economically unspendable, but I do wonder why hundreds of these tiny transactions always appear on-chain in every single block:

I noticed not all markets have resolved:
But when I click on the two unresolved markets, they show up as resolved.1
Additionally, when I am on my profile and I reload the page, I get this:

  1. afaict, I won all three markets in which I participated 👀
reply
Congrats on winning all the bets!!
Thanks for informing us, some of the early markets had issues (even though they were resolved, but shows awaiting resolution ), but we will take a look at all your bets and fix it tomorrow, if that's okay? Also, we'll make sure you have been paid for all the resolved markets.
Thanks for reporting the 500 error, we will fix it in the next update i.e. next weekend.

reply
No, you used password, I remember. Please read the above reply.
reply
I'm currently logged in, but something's messed up with how it's using my lightning address. I'm able to make purchases, but not sales.
reply
Yes, I noticed same as well, something is messed up with sell, please try with lower shares 100-200 for now.
We found the root cause, but it will be few days to get it working perfectly. We were using limit sell order flow (meaning you set a sale price, which is pre-set as of now), however, our orderbook still needs more work.
Temporarily, we'll be switching to spot sell order (meaning you will sell at what the current/market price is on the server). If someone sold/bought before that very second, just before you, you may get a slightly different sale price. With this no more nagging "Failed Order" to cancel.
Once we fix our orderbook, then we'll re-enable limit buy/sell where you can actually set a future buy/sell price.
reply
I'll try again, but I was trying to sell small quantities of shares.
reply
Sorry about that, we'll be pushing a major update tomorrow night. All these nagging issues have been fixed in that update.
reply
No worries. I have very low time preference.

“Give them bread and circuses, and they will never rebel” - Juvenal
In ancient Rome, the poet Juvenal ironically expressed the phrase: "panem et circenses". Bread and circuses.
He criticized the strategy of power to silence the people, to keep them calm and happy.
As long as people had their bellies satiated with bread and their minds distracted with games, they would overlook the rest of the problems.
Two thousand years later, the world is very different, but the concept of "bread and circuses" is still alive.
Instead of gladiators in coliseums we have football, Netflix and TikTok.
Instead of emperors throwing wheat to the crowd, we have politicians handing out subsidies.
And I don't criticize it.
We need basic material security and some entertainment.
But don't settle for that.
And don't be a slave to it.
Don't stop fighting to improve, both individually and socially.
reply
100 sats \ 0 replies \ @Lux 12 Nov
Is there any irrefutable proof that gladiators fought in colosseums? Or that "circuses" means "gladiators in colosseums"? I know there were games (like today olympics etc) and for sure there were fighters, but, colosseums didn't have stands for the spectators, and there was no space for all that..

Air was free in the US for many years. It still is but it's harder to find.
reply
Exactly! The places with free air never seem to have working machines. I'm happy to pay for air on the rare occasions that I need it. That's so much better than driving around, trying to find a gas station with a working air pump.
reply
Interesting, here in Portugal and I think all over Europe, the air at the gas stations is free!
reply
The bathrooms in Porto and Lisbon were not free when I was there. At least the air is.
reply
yes, there are bathrooms in the street that you have to pay for. You could go to a cafe or restaurant and ask to use the toilet. It's free! Ahahah
reply
One place in Lisbon didn't even have toilet seats! They didn't want anyone dropping a deuce.
reply
In Eastern Europe, almost all toilets don't have seats. I've read that it's healthier!
reply
Depends upon where you go in South Asia, there are no seats because you don’t sit to do your business, you squat. This goes for many parts of Southeast and East Asia, too. You might have noticed that people do a lot of “hunkering down” there. Other places don’t have the knees for it, anymore.
reply
In Uzbekistan you can find a hole in the floor or a toilet is a crap shoot.
This example of seatless in Portugal, Lisbon was an anomaly.
I never sit on a public toilet or even another person's John but it's nice when the seat prevents the splash.
On a side note the toilets that use less water are hilarious. You end up flushing multiple times just to make the matter disappear.

Step Four

At this stage of the negotiation, you will have noted several false claims, and if the person making those claims has not left, they are continuing with their demise.
Even though they have violated your rights at this point, you must continue with respect and honour, although you can be a little more forceful at this point.
Remember, to win you MUST stay within honour, and they must be with dishonour.
So, even though you are setting them up, you must give them a forewarning and begin pointing out their mistakes; again, get all this on the record.
