There's a homeless guy that hangs out across from my office window most afternoons/evenings. He seems like a sweet and quiet yet troubled and non-verbal guy. He'll often wait outside P. Terry's waving at people hoping they'll give him some leftovers or a $3 burger.

Right now he's yelling like he'll sometimes do. It's a deep full-belly yell. He'll do it over and over without any self-consciousness. It sounds so cathartic.

In a random, unexpected toast, right? If so, you can ignore it, we think it's a background query that is not important if it fails since it will get run again but for some reason it throws errors all the way to the user. We just haven't found which query it is yet 😅

Hey everyone, new to SN, but so far having a lot of fun.

I was wondering if there were any good guides or intros on how Cowboy Credits (CCs) work and how to know when you are paying with CCs and when with Sats.

I looked through the guides but didn't find a satisfying answer to this question.

TLDR

CCs are like testnet sats, or like WoW "gold coins", used only INSIDE the game (SN). I myself didn't attached any external wallet to my SN account (even that I tested many of them). Why? See my older posts (example #796213 and #733426) explaining why this move will create more problems than fixing them.

Using CCs inside SN is perfectly fine, but some of stackers are focused only on how to assmilk SN instead of providing value here. For me SN is a "pay to post" not "post to earn".

Whenever you pay SN, we prioritize CCs and when you pay other stackers, we prioritize sats. Does that answer your question?

Yeah, I did read those, then I looked into the guides, and then I tried to search using the search bar, but didn't find a satisfactory answer.

But your edit just provided almost all of the info I was looking for:

This is a good starting point, but my desire for knowledge is unquenchable.

I guess the ideal would be some sort of detailed explanation and economic analysis of how this dual-coin economy works exactly. Like, what do you define as "paying SN" or "paying other stackers"? If there's some sort of spilt, is part of it paid in Sats and part in CCs?

Also, from a UX perspective, it would be good to have some clearer way to choose between both CCs and Sats. Perhaps the lightning could be different colored?

Only when you zap, you pay other stackers so it will prioritize sats.

Everything else (posts, replies, boosts, votes (in polls), donations, territories, jobs, downzaps) will prioritize CCs.

Every zap pays 30% into rewards but it's not split. If you pay with sats, it's in sats. If you pay with CCs, it's in CCs. But maybe we'll implement paying the 30% fee in CCs, too. This is the first time someone brought this up actually!

Planned and I agree, I check a lot if I just paid in CCs or sats by clicking on ... and selecting 'details'. But we have to be careful with this since making the user think too much about paying in CCs or sats can also degrade UX.

So when I click the LN Bolt, that's when it prioritizes Sats, because I'm "Zapping" other users. But when I do any otehr type of interaction, it prioritizes CCs.

From what I'm understanding, the economy of SN is that CCs are not redeemable in any way. You can only buy them, not sell them.

But the way in which CCs are destroyed, and thus enabling an escape valve, is by sending those CCs back to SN through the other interactions where Sats/CCs flow to SN. It would thus make sense that CCs get prioritized for that 30% split.

But we have to be careful with this since making the user think too much about paying in CCs or sats can also degrade UX.

I understand your point. Zaps should be quick and simple, less is more.

Thus, I provided the idea that, in case you guys choose to keep the Zaps UX/UI simple, an easy way to provide feedback to the user on "What did I just send, Sats or CCs?" would be to color the Lightning Strike that crosses your screen in a different color, depending on what was sent.

This way, the user gets a visual feedback on "You sent Sats" or "you sent CCs".

Found time to watch a colleague’s lesson and codify her best practices. I love having the bandwidth to learn from other people and improve myself. Personally, watching her lesson made me feel like I do too much telling in my lessons. I will ask students "What's the key word here". Yeah, I read your thoughts on this the other day and there's definitely some merit to that view. But overall, I find zapping to be a direct way of supporting what you want to see more of. Whereas likes are just straight up pointless. Perhaps the only thing they help is the algorithm.

One thing I like about SN is the fact that there is no like button. I wish nostr got rid of it as well. It's fiat af.
