I am skeptical that the human mind could be replicated, we have no working theory of how conciousness works. I personally presume that its not anything that can be conventionally explained; maybe your body and brain is remote controlled through the microtubules in your brain, and you are really some 5th dimensional being. If that sounds crazy, at least theres an open lead on it, compared to reducing the human being to computation, for which we have no serious path forward.
Its odd that he would quit before his pip. I know several people who intentionally go on a pip if they have another job opportunity. A PIP is like, you can quit now and stay gone for 5 years and we will give you a big chunk of change, or you can stay on and fight to keep your job or stay at the company.
People who quit to avoid a pip are either expecting to work at the company again soon, or are total d-bags at work and worried that it will mess up their next interview.
There will be a hard fork eventually, to fix the timestamping issue. This will cause a lot of people to see bitcoin less as something that exists in the world and cant be stopped, and more as some temporary social arrangement that could simply die for lack or interest.
We are stuck with 1mB blocks that pose a critical risk to scaling. The whole world cant use bitcoin L1, they couldnt even all use lightning. The maximal decentralizability of L1 verifiability could land us back in centralized custody.
Hey, seriously though. Spread it out a little bit, its easy enough to look at the direction things are headed in and make a good bet. Amd/intel/nvidia/tsmc, own them all, they all are winning in the long term. Turning your ira into a bitcoin etf thermometer wont help you sleep.

Its partially mitigated by things like mint operators not knowing whos bitcoin is whose, not having visibility into who sends nuts to whom, and IIRC there are measures to verify mint operators still have the amount of bitcoin as was given to them. So mints can steal, but not with precision and likely at the cost of further operation, I suppose unprofitable mints have an incentive to steal everything before finally shutting the mint down.

It has been strung along longer than any of us would have expected, and they have tricks up their sleeve to keep it going as long as political will doesnt turn. There is a systemic instability though, the numbers get more extreme with every turn, where the turns get more and more frequent. I think its reasonable to extrapolate out and say the next time the money printer starts, maybe its a 50% haircut for savers, maybe the next is 80%. There is no mechanism for reducing items like the national debt, and even under full yield curve control there is only so much they can do to keep rates down (evidence japan), meanwhile politicians follow their incentives to spend more. I see no way out of this cage, its a falling wedge where the top line is the collapse of investor confidence (double/tripple digit inflation and interest rates) and the botttom line is default.
If this guy ever quits, hes gonna spend the rest of his life on defense for how badly hes abused the courts.
Yea, for all the references to "no true Scotsman" we have some no-shit scotsman in the graphene devs; everyone has a personality problem, and the point they are making is totally valid. If someone has to have graphene installed for them at an upcharge, it can be assumed they arent aware of the risks of buying a phone that isnt receiving regular updates, so it seems a bit scummy. Even taking someone needing a secure burner, they wouldnt be spending extra money to have graphene preinstalled.
Hey, nice weather today, taking the dogs out for a haircut. You doing alright? Everything all right at home? Whens the last time you hugged a family member?
I think you are right that there are other examples, maybe german engineers have a reputation for their exacting standards, or bitcoiners are difficult for their insistence against hardforks etc.
I dont think id put it in the same category as people acting morally self rightous, those people are just being dickheads. Think more along the lines of someone who refuses to bend certain rules even if they dont seem important, or someone whos not going to tolerate substandard work, they might come across as being a jerk, and they might be for what its worth, but its not without reason.

I think its more a reflection of the death of civil society. As an example, politicians have stripped any sense of morality from religion and instead use it as a cudgel for their own purposes, I think that rubs off on weak minded people.
There is also a phenomena that people of high moral conviction can sometimes come across as abrasive due to their insistence, and people of no moral conviction can come across as nice because they have no standards to hold a conversational partner to; not saying thats what you are experiencing, but in religion and in fiction the most depraved are often depicted as offering great rewards, in the bible lucifer corrupted the world with the promise of the forbidden fruit (or sex, or knowledge depending on your interpretation).
I prefer civility and empathy in dealing with people, I find it promotes feelings of confidence and prevents insecurity on my part, I know I am treating others the way I prefer to be treated, and it has generally proved to be a more effective means of communication.
I like that, you have measured someones faith when they take a plunge into something that hasnt/cant be proven, or something to that effect.

If we accept this premise, isn't it then a choice if you believe in faith or in science?
Science isnt capable of making value judgements, it isnt a belief system complete with moral values; ideally you study science, dont believe it. Many of the greatest scientists of history were religious, there is no conflict. There is a conflict when people believe they can look to their intellectual leaders as a type of god, capable of determining the fates of others.
Some people will spend their entire lives dedicated to studying something that doesnt exist, I prefer fiction, trying to satiate your intellectual curiosity by math-ing out social phenomena seems like masturbation
A lot of untruths in these comments. It starts at 60, it has as good a bed as any other truck, it can tow as much as any other truck. "Other electric trucks" are a meme and an insult to my intelligence, the rivian is a very expensive adventure truck in limited series, the electric f150 is an butt-ugly reminder of how the american automotive industry is dead outside of tesla. Feature for feature, start with the base models towing, bed, and features and you tell me whats a better truck at that price. Its a tad expensive, itll take a few years for it to make sense to me, but if your price point is spending 60-100k (which is a lot of people I work with) then this is a kick ass truck.
In the context of what we know about AI and the fact that its nowhere near intelligent, this reads like kids throwing sand at eachother because one sabatoged the trashcan rocket they were flying to the moon to stop doctor doom. The idea that he was fired because they were getting too close to AGI too quickly rests on the presumption thats possible in the first place, for which no evidence has ever been presented; alternative theory, he was fired for being a literal scammer that tried to weaponize his influence to get his own monopoly legislated, he was a walking talking insult to any marginally honest person working there.
Indeed, despite every attempt governments have made, the free market still rules. It might be underground like drugs, it might use an abstract currency like food stamps (traded at or near parity for cash in inner cities) or cigarettes in prison. Its like water, it will fill every crevice in the cracked foundation of central planning, where you could name some of the centralized systems that run the show like the federal reserve system or the IRS, under the skin you have everyone actong in their own self interest to get over.
Prophecy. Many/most of us understand the system as it is today cant stand, and enough know how to foresee economic calamaties before they take place; in that space theres a discomfort between todays particular economic realities and what can be projected. Mere weeks or months ago I know people that were telling me "jobs look great, the economy is up!", well, we were waiting for rate hikes to intersect corporate bonds, and ta-da they are now. Others reflect on what ive said and now shake their heads, " xxxx told you what was going to happen, he laid it out like a book, it shouldnt be a surpise". Ive spent the last 6 months telling everyone to stock up on bitcoin, and here we are, with many people upset because they heard about the crash from 70k and thought bitcoin was finally finished. Now as debt servicing costs are on the rise I can only assume we will have crippling austerity measures whos shock will cause catastrophe, or more likely double/triple digit inflation in store.
I have a stack, ive got a job that pays my mortgage with options if things go south, ive returned to enjoying time with family and playing videogames. Nothing can stop whats coming and nobody listens, so ill be enjoying my time and when it all goes tits up ill shrug my shoulders and say "i tried to warn you", again.
Executioms begin day one...whats that about bitcoin? Oh, I guess ill hyperinflate the dollar to such an insane degree that banks simply give up trying to collect because any rate of interest they charge is insignificant to the hyperbolic acceleration of inflation; and ill make all consensual trades legal and tax free with bitcoin, so youd be stupid not to use it. After all that i figure the government would be incapable of funding itself so id wait for the lights to shut off in the whitehouse, put on my suit coat, light a cigar on the way out and toss my zippo into the gasoline soaked carpet on my way out. Its a fantasy, let me enjoy it.
Lol, I'm a paper airplane that is launched from ancapistan, circles around libleft and authright, then and lands back in ancapistan.
