Okay, this might not be as interesting to others as to me, but I at least found it very interesting how I just discovered old content without even realizing how old that content is:
So I was looking at the front page and have seen that Taking a sabbatical from Bitcoin FOSS has new comments.
The new comment was this one from @031ef7d322:
Not every form of Lightning DoS requires use of an IP address. Channel jamming and other attacks on liquidity, for example.
I thought:
mhh, that's a good point. @031ef7d322 seems to be knowledgeable about lightning attack vectors. Let's see what else they have posted.
So I went to their profile and found this comment, a quote of something:
he said to me, “the internet’s about routing money. Routing packets is a side effect, and you screwed up the money routing protocols.” And I said, “I didn’t design any money routing protocols…” And he said, “that’s what I said.”
That caught my interest. So I decided to see what this is about and clicked on parent.
mhmh, more interesting
Looking at the root item, I found out it's from the Weekend book recommendations post from 30 Sep. So over a month ago!
I also realized I already zapped some comments in that thread so I must have already seen it before, lol
But somehow, it caught my interest again and I think I really need to read this Designing the Internet book now. So I need to read Broken Money faster, lol

I also should mention a bizarre coincidence (?) Some people believe Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon was oddly synced to the scenes of the film. It's pretty entertaining. Just go on YouTube and search Pink Floyd Wizard of Oz. Yes, we were pretty altered in the 70s.
reply
Definitely looking into this!
reply
I'm no expert besides the fact that I watched the film once a year as a child. Dorothy turns to her dog Toto after the tornado knocks them into Oz and says "Toto, I don't think we're in Kansas anymore." All the kids loved that line. Lots of iconic lines simply because it was a shared generational experience, I think.

Posts i like are getting zapped with enough sats to bring them to the nearest round number.
Might be early onset OCD?

lol, I do the opposite
I zap prime numbers or until it's a prime number
(to be fair, I don't actually check if it's a prime number. As long as it looks like one, lol)

Over the Veteran's Day weekend, I say a Trump flag and I realized that promoting politicians is a lot like promoting Bernie Madoff. Politicians make promises that they can't/won't keep; and so did Madoff. But at least Bernie Madoff isn't responsible for killing other people (unlike all US presidents).
You don't see anyone putting up signs saying "Madoff did nothing wrong," but you will see signs saying that some failed presidential candidate is the real president.

It's alive: 48 comments in 28 minutes. I missed this!
went to a small town to do some digging and learning, then got invited for dinner and then breakfast from some Turkish mums on the first day when I was randomly walking around.
It feels like things like this only happen in Turkey, and feel safe at the same time 😳
reply
another interesting cultural difference!
Turkish people often introduce the whole family early on, even just friends, like you would get to hang out with their parents or grandparents! While I've been friends with people from different countries and yet never seeing parents is the norm 😳 and ofc both have good and bad sides, and it's nice to get to experience it and reflect.
reply
Do locals use the term ‘Türkiye’ or is it interchangeable with ‘Turkey’?
reply
Interchangeable, like everyone understands!
e.g. I use Türkiye when I speak in Turkish, but I use both when I speak in English 😳
reply
I wouldn't mind learning how to speak Turkish, the langues always sounds so exciting to me.
reply
Turkish is such a beautiful language, and no strict rules, no he or she ; also it's right as long as it sounds good to the ear.!
And fun fact, I've learned at least 10 different ways to express " my love " in Turkish 😂😂😂 Turks are def not shy away from expressing their feelings.
reply
Wow you speak Turkish. Turkey is a complete mystery to me. When I was a kid I always asked my self why is a county named after the bird.
reply
Lol, that is funny. Kinds really say and think the darndess things.
reply
My level of Turkish is about okay going around and getting things done 🤓
And the longer I stay here, the more I am amazed by this beautiful land: deep culture, amazing food and super friendly and caring people.

That's lovely. I've been there once during my return flight from Netherlands and I enjoy it. The people seems friendly and the food was just as nice.
Interesting. Funny how non-nationals get upset about people not using the formal name…
reply
oh, I haven't have this experience so far, like people are generally quite understanding, giving the culture are so diverse here
reply
I was thinking more Western leftist types… the people least tolerant of honest misunderstandings are those who use it to score political points.
Like foreigners using the Spanish term ‘Hola!’ as a form of cultural appropriation. (This type of thought speak was even dropped in the recent Barbie movie when a father of a mixed-race child was called an embarrassment for trying to learn his wife’s second language.)
reply
Oh and don't get me started about cultural appropriation, lol
I was once asked by someone that's close to me if it's okay if they wear traditional clothes of my country to a traditional party of my country
Damn, that started an argument about cultural appropriation, lol
I was bewildered that they asked me first
Who am I, the ambassador of that country? lol
I mentioned how I think that's not solving racism, that's actually racism itself, lol
To say who should be allowed to wear what
reply
And assumes you have it in your wardrobe ‘good to go’..
why don't they just wear it 😂
I like wearing other cultures' traditional clothes.
I know what you mean, I encountered similar things with gender pronouns.
For me, it seems to mostly just be patronism. They want to help a group by protecting it since they feel they are in the minority and thus need protection.
I tried to argue that I think these groups can speak for themselves and it's mostly virtue signaling if everyone starts to change their language to accommodate them. I think that makes the situation even worse for them since they will be the scapegoat of the public. "We need to change our language because of them?!"
But I am not sure if the majority of the minority even wants to be treated specially.
If someone changes their language to not hurt me, I would be pretty pissed lol
Don't you want to be treated like everyone else? Isn't that what equality is about? Not that everyone gets their special rights?
reply
This is the final death act in extreme liberalism… anyone can be anything unless someone else says so and then it is their right to be that thing regardless of utility…
Wow. That experience sounds amazing. People are often drawn to those with a unique aura, and you my dear must be one of those individuals with a special kind of aura. I hope you enjoy the experience.

Don't forget your scarf. We don't want you catching a cold on your very first day of the week.
reply
I have never worn a scarf in my life. I'm just not a scarf guy. I will wear a hat to cover my hairless head, but it's not cold enough for that yet.
reply
You are a cravat guy aren’t you? I bloody knew it….. lol
reply
You're on to me.
reply
Yep. I've never worn a scarf either. I wonder what it's like.
reply
Really annoying… you put it on, take it off and then are convinced it’s dropped out of your pocket so you keep checking you have it, until it actually falls out of your pocket and you lose the thing.
That’s why they are popular Christmas gifts i guess; constant replacement.
reply
Lol. Now I'm glad I don't have one. That would drive me insane having to constantly check if I still have it on me. No thank you.
reply
A shemagh is a useful item in some environments -although I wouldn’t advise wearing one at present unless for religious reasons.
reply
Wearing those in my country aren't really an issue. I've never worn one myself but I've seen many people wear them even tough they are from different religious groups.

That’s the American version ;) internationally called press ups :D
reply
I'm African and we say push ups as well.
reply
I’m just joking around - the terms are pretty interchangeable. I must admit I only tend to use the term press up but o think that is what we called them in the military. The true reasons are probably lost to time….
reply
My time in the military they called them press ups, because it is a pressing motion. But push ups works in civvie street because well... You are pushing up... But I guess the press part of it comes from the motion similar to a chest press/bench press. Like you mentioned they're pretty interchangeable.
reply
I've never really questioned this before. I've always accepted push ups as the term one uses when pushing his body up and down, Lol. I think both press up and push up is self explanatory to be honest. If you use any one of those terms in a conversation, the person will instinctively know what you're talking about.

Really well, first assignment in last week and working on the next.
Usually get studying time in the evening although some days, like today, they don’t need me at work (weather is awful here) and I can do a bit extra.
