We are counting down MLB's best ballparks throughout the 2025 season.
Here is last week's edition #1231254.
This week we have #2.
Wrigley Field- Chicago Cubs Opened: 1914 Capacity: 41,649
Red brick and ivy. People watching the game from apartment rooftops across the street. You can't get any more old-timey baseball than Wrigley field. In my opinion the best of the remaining classic parks. It's undergone some renovations over the years to add extra grandstands in CF and a new scoreboard to LF but still retain its classic charm. The Ivy outfield wall is the most unique feature in any MLB park. Unfortunately this pic is from opening day so it hasn't come in yet. Here is a better look.
Wrigley doesn't have the modern amenities and creature comforts as many of the newer parks but it has history and nostalgia on its side and that's why it is the number 2 park on my list.
There is only 1 park left. I will unveil it Monday before the playoffs begin.
Sats for all, GR
Beautiful place to see a game. The neighborhood around the park is also a lot of fun. Its worth a pilgrimage

Are your Mets going to pull it off today?

I really don't think so. Nor do they really deserve to, with that payroll.

I have to admit, I wouldn’t be upset if the Reds win but for all the Mets fans on SN I hope they pull it off.

It's #1 in my super biased opinion. I spent many nights in my 20s in Wrigleyville. I personally don't like the way that the area has changed however. It's traded it's culture in many ways for corporate sponsored amenities. Wrigleyville use to be full of bars and I'd even say a bit seedy, but now it's very much corporatized and modernized all around it, which isn't surprising given how all stadiums across modern sports has moved that way. This just bothers me personally haha. Then again, it's probably much nicer for most visitors than it used to be lol.
The Ricketts also used some shady tactics to swoop up the real estate around the field, example the big score boards and signs to reduce the view from the rooftops was deliberate to kill the rooftop business overnight, and now they own most of the rooftops. Seems the plan is to tear some down and build a new high rise apartments.
Greed continues to take a sledgehammer to Wrigleyville's neighborhood charm https://cubbiescrib.com/posts/greed-continues-to-take-sledgehammer-to-wrigleyville-neighborhood-charm

When I refer to the neighborhood, it was circa 1994😀 Lefty Dizz was still alive and playing a little blues club right next to Wrigley.

Hard to argue with it being 1 on some people’s lists.
