It has been another busy Sunday with runs and chores and numerous other things to do. So, writing of the weekly hiking post keeps getting pushed back. Better late than never they say, so here we go. This week, we head to Cheakamus Lake by hiking the Cheakamus Lake Trail near Whistler, BC. The lake and the trail to reach it are located in the beautiful Garabaldi Provincial Park. This trail is an out-and-back trail that is about 8km long with about 300m elevation gain. The trail traverses through the forest, is well maintained, and well marked. It is also relatively easy and children friendly. We took our time with the hike because we had a large number of children in our group. At about 1.7km into the hike from the trailhead, there was a fork towards the south that crosses a pedestrian bridge. This fork brings you onto a long trail towards Helm Creek Campground and eventually Panorama Ridge #340024. Not taking the fork and going straight on the main trail brings you to Cheakamus Lake. When the trail reaches the lake, it continues onwards for another 3.6km along the lake to reach the Spring Creek Campground. We ended our hike once we reached the lake to have lunch and let the kids play in the water. After spending some time at the lake, we made our way back towards the parking lot.
